imitrex

Avatar m tn I am so glad that you asked about imitrex! I take a triptan, like imitrex, and personally I think that triptans are the best treatment for acute migraines, and they are also the most prescribed medication for acute migraines.
1056589 tn?1273747102 Hi Theresa! The question about Imitrex is a really good question! And in almost all cases Imitrex is VERY SAFE! But! Since you may suffer from what is called Hemiplegic migraine (some doctors refer to this as "complicated migraine") then Imitrex can often be contraindicated. As well as being contraindicated in the case of Hemiplegic migraine, Imitrex is also contraindicated in some other types of migraine headaches as well such as Basilar artery migraine.

Avatar f tn After about 3 months of this I started getting heart palpitations. They got so bad that I stopped taking my imitrex (cold turkey) on the whim that it was causing them. The palpitations started getting worse, but I had now talked myself into having a fear of imitrex (that it would kill me). One night to avoid the ER with a terrible migraine I broke down and took the imitrex shot. Within seconds the palpitations stopped, and did not pick back up again for about 3 days.
Avatar f tn I don't have much of a question, but wanted to introduce myself. I've periodically had migraines throughout my life, but they were never very often. However, that changed since I've been diagnosed with lupus and fibromyalgia (as well as other chronic pain issues). Especially since the fibro was discovered (about 15 years ago), my migraines have increased in frequency. The week before last, I had 3 in that week alone.
Avatar f tn While medications such as imitrex are contraindicated (should not be used) in people who are known to have heart disease or other vascular problems, there is not a specific test that needs to be done in someone with migraines who takes imitrex. If you are diagnosed at any time with heart disease or stroke, you do need to stop taking imitrex.

1103688 tn?1257894552 t take Imitrex because it causes me to have severe heart palpitations (bad enough that I have to be hospitalized - I've only been given it once, and that was all it took). The thing that works best for me as a preventative is Excedrin - just plain old, over-the-counter Excedrin, but the problem with this is that I have multiple digestive problems, among which is the tendency to develop gastric ulcers, and my gastroenterologist would really like it if I would stop taking Excedrin.
Avatar n tn My brother just had a heart attack that damaged 1/3 of his heart. The doctor has placed two stents into his artery. My husband and I are arguing over whether or not the muscle can repair itself. I thought it could after a few weeks but due to the scar tissue the function was not the same. Is this correct?
656111 tn?1273820739 Anyway, I am taking Imitrex for my migraines. Well, I had problem with script to fill Imitrex medicine couple years ago.... it only supplys 9 and only covers one any type of migraine medication PER month. When I ran out of it, I asked my doctor to give me script for more Imitrex and I dropped script off at Walgreens then few minutes later, pharmacist told me that insurance was not covering that...
Avatar f tn tachycardia (or fast heart beat), labile blood pressure, dizziness, flushing, tremor, etc. Since you are also on Synthroid (or levothyroxine), you may experience faster heart rates if the dose is too high for you. I do not know if your heart rate readings are due to nortriptyline, combination with Synthroid, or something else. However, I strongly recommend for you to consult your provider as soon as possible.
Avatar n tn Is there a tolerance build up to viagra? For a man like me who didnt physicaly need it, could it damage my penis and make me impotent? Been taking it for 4 months 2 to 3 times a week.
341655 tn?1240368839 what is the difference between the imitrex injections and pills? Which is more effective and prescribed more?
1046692 tn?1255391835 Is it safe to take Lexapro and Imitrex? There is a warning on the package against this but I thought I would ask the professionals first.
7400888 tn?1401574739 t do this to your baby hun somethings are meant to happen. Its heart breaking and my heart hurts for you but it was likely a problem developmentally not from a pill.
1524673 tn?1327841500 Cambia is diclofenac, the same thing as Voltaren (a different brand name), and increases risk of heart or circulatory problems, which includes stroke & heart attack. The longer it is taken, the greater the risk. It's recommended if you take this drug and experience things like chest pain, shortness of breath, slurred speech, weakness, or balance or visual problems that you seek emergency professional care.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
2124631 tn?1335166144 Flushing, sensations of tingling/numbness/prickling/heat, weakness, drowsiness, or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.Chest/jaw/neck tightness can commonly occur shortly after using sumatriptan.
Avatar f tn so there is no reason to become an addict or to crave the medication, but ones body will still become highly dependent on the medication to a point that if you take the body off the medication abruptly you can cause seizures and even death... Imitrex is NOT like that!! Imitrex does not cause any sort of high or euphoria so you cannot become addicted to it, you will not "crave" it when you are not in pain...
Avatar f tn I have also read that imitrex and drugs in that category CAN rarely can cause heart problems. You might want to check with your general practitioner or neuro if you see about this. Also, do you have a mitral valve prolapse w/reflux? I think this would show on an ECHO? the reason I ask is that I was diagnosed several years ago adn the dr. says this causes chest pain and heart palpitations as well as migraines and low blood pressure-all of which I have recently experienced.
Avatar f tn I have tried numerous medications. (Amerge, Imitrex, Toradol, Fioricet, Maxalt, Indocin, Lithium, Imitrex Injections, Vicodin, Perocet.. I beleive there is a few others I just can't think of them at this time) I am now being treated with Zonegran, Depakote. The Zonegran was working for a little while but I have seemed to reach a plateau. I have not been migraine free at all since November, but there have been times where my migraines have been less painful.
Avatar f tn I am pretty loyal to Imitrex. But always at max dose of 200mg. There is a new drug from makers of Imitrex called Trixamet. It is Imitrex plus an NSAID. I got a sample from my doc. I loved it. Trixamet is supposed to be covered by any insurance that takes Imitrex, but mine doesn't cover it. Maybe yours will. Hope I helped.
Avatar f tn Also, I was in on the double blind study for Imitrex before it was on the market. I have used Imitrex numerous times per month for Migraine. Otherwise I'm healthy. Could Imitrex have caused my condition. I no longer have an ophthalmologist but would make a trip to IUMed Center in Indianapolis if I could referred. Thank you again for replying. It feels good knowing someone cares and there is hope.
518798 tn?1295212279 Good Morning guys! I woke up with another migraine this morning. This is the 3rd one this month. I usually have about 2 in a year, but never this close together and this often. I have been taking 1 imitrex when I have a headache. My question is, "Is Imitrex habit-forming?" I have researched all the websites, but they also say that ultram isn't habit forming. I was just wanting some info from someone who has taken it.
