Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen liver tests

ibuprofen

Avatar f tn I ask because I seem to get some mild paid from my Right kidney shortly after I have a drink. I have recently had some blood tests too, and my GP said my liver blood tests were high. I'm currently awaiting the results from a liver scan, and I'm having further blood tests next week too. My GP is not aware of the self harm. I have since been feeling very tired, I'm eating g a lot so have put weight on and I struggle to concentrate on my work and get quite angry with people.
3122657 tn?1357432602 Hi all so far 3 months into treatment i was pretty much sailing through it but not by body is hurting my back my legs just everything i ran out of Acetaminophen and want to know if anyone here knows if i can take Ibuprofen for the aches i am undetectable at week 4 no liver damage if someone could help me out with this Thanks Much love Karen
Avatar m tn According to research institutes, Ibuprofen overdose damages your internal organs like liver. While in some cases it has been reported that it has result in a permanent liver damage, in other cases where the victim was taking the dose for a long and continued period it has resulted in organ failure one by one.
Avatar f tn The problem with ibuprofen or tylenol is that you can cause liver damage that doesn't manifest immediately. An amount like 10,000 is too much for the liver to absorb at one time, and there can be considerable damage that you don't realize at this time. I think you should go to a physician, relate what you have told us, and get appropriate testing. Also, maybe some therapy.....that's helpful usuallly to everyone. Keep me posted. Good luck and God bless.
Avatar n tn I recently went to a G.I. doctor. I had some liver tests done and my liver enzymes came back "slightly elevated". Back in 2005 my AST & ALT were at 17 * 18. They currently register at 46 & 48 for AST & ALT. I am a 29 yr. old female w/ a number of gastrointestinal problems. I was born without a gall bladder, I have irritable bowel syndrome and I quite possibly over use ibuprofen, taking as much as 800-1600mg/ day. Are these levels high?
7758733 tn?1402589420 Killer headaches, and never any Tylenol around. Ibuprofen can't be that bad huh? Got to go to work and this headache must go.
Avatar n tn Hello and many thanks for your reply..may i ask if you are a Doctor..
1148241 tn?1294052796 Anything you ingest by mouth is eventually going to go through your liver. From what I've read, ibuprofen isn't as hard on the liver as tylenol (acetomenaphen or paracetamol), but still be careful to take no more than what the label says, and tell your doctor you're taking it. If it works, your doctor may direct you to take more than what's on the label, but again, follow instructions, dosage and timing carefully. Stay away from the "extra strength" formulas.
Avatar f tn t get rid of it, I have last stage Cirrhosis, am going to need a liver transplant before long, this can be taken safely with liver disease and hepatitis.
1323278 tn?1298122488 Acetaminophen far below the toxic dose taken on a daily basis can lead to liver damage. While ibuprofen can upset the stomach, there is a second drug, Cytotec (Misoprostol) that can protect your stomache while taking NSAIDs There are also enteric coated NSAIDs that do not dissolve in the stomach but dissolve in the intestines. We should always let our doctors know all of the medication, including over the counter, herbal supplements, vitamins and other substances (Medical Marijuana?
1654058 tn?1407159066 Karen, Your platelets are already low, and NSAIDs can increase the risk for bleeding; imho, acetaminophen over the ibuprofen, hands down. With low platelets from tx and a compromised liver and kidney system, any of the NSAIDs are contra-indicated for you (includes Motrin, Advil, Aleve). Tylenol is not to be taken indiscriminately either, though. With cirrhosis, no more than 2000 mg per day max (that means no more than 4 Extra Strength Tylenol in any 24 hour period).
Avatar f tn Do you have copies of your blood tests? If not get copies of you most recent blood tests and any other tests you have had. Have you had a liver biopsy or fibro scan for example? The blood test you especially want to see are your Basic Metabolic Panel (BMP), Hepatic function Panel, and Protime. With those tests you will know your Bilirubin, Creatinine and INR results which are used to determine your MELD score that is how you place on the liver transplant list is determined.
Avatar m tn 170 My ultrsound for liver and spleen 2 weeks ago was normal. Do I worry unnecessarily? Since I do not have older tests, I do knot know my previous values. I have NAFLD or NASH and I am 35 years old. I was overwihjt in last 4-5 years (with a maximum BMI: 28.2 during that period) . My liver enzymes are normal in last 8 months. What do you think from platelet count?
Avatar m tn This past 2 weeks I was ill with the h1n1 virus. During the 2 weeks, I consumed over 50 200mg pills of ibuprofen. I have had blood work done twice (5 days ago and 2 days ago). Both resulted in increased liver enzymes. I haven't had any ibuprofen in 4 days. Is it possible that my liver enzyme increase is a result of the "overdose" with the ibuprofen. My doctor has scheduled another blood work screening in two weeks. Will my liver enzymes decrease in this amount of time?
Avatar f tn I'm 15 5'3 and 95lbs. I took about 2900mg or ibuprofen in one dose? What is going to happen. It's not a suicide attempt I just want to sleep.
Avatar m tn No, the anti-bodies are different. RNA is different too. However, if liver tests indicate anything abnormal u should be tested for C also.
Avatar f tn Most of us are told by our hepatologists not to use ibuprofen because it can be hard on the liver, and Tylenol is recommended over aspirin for pain control. It sounds like your case might be different in terms of needing the aspirin, but I would be kind of worried about taking ibuprofen too.
Avatar n tn It causes liver toxicity, and serious liver damage. Tylenol is one of the leading causes of liver failure in the United States, accounting for an estimated 450 deaths per year. I quit taking Tylenol years ago, I recommend you do the same. I found that Naproxen or "Aleve" is about the safest. Ibuprofen and asprin are hard on the kidneys. I hope this has been helpful!!!
Avatar n tn Ibuprofen damages the kidneys more than the liver. But it does affect both of them. That amount of ibuprofen over a period of time can certainly wreak havock on his stomach. And mixing w/beer isn't wise. If he isn't having pain w/the ulcers (assuming that's what it is), he'll need an endoscopy. A camera is inserted into the mouth and down through the stomach to see what's going on. If there are ulcers, he can have them cauterized then too.
Avatar n tn It truly sounds like the flu....but, I would do as the doctor recommended, and try the ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, which means it will not only help with discomfort, but it helps reduce any swelling that may be causing discomfort. If you symptoms don't improve, or get worse, you should at least call your physician and let him know. He may want to see you again, and run further tests for a more specific diagnosis. Hope you feel better soon!
Avatar m tn I have been fighting fatigue and pain for a couple of years i have had many test and it was found my liver enzymes test were high, to keep this short many tests followed my numbers flucuate from 160-707 up and down month to month my last test was 707 I have been off any meds for months now doctor can't explain it. All other blood test normal get to go for liver biopsy tomorrow specialist dosen't want to wait any longer.
4507179 tn?1355632892 Ibuprofen for the last 20 years and drinking can cause liver damage. Having cirrhosis you should never take Ibuprofen. It can lead to kidney failure and internal bleeding. People with cirrhosis should avoid consuming substances that can further damage the liver. The most common of these is alcohol. You should talk to your healthcare provider before taking any new medication (including prescription and non-prescription drugs, herbs, vitamins, or dietary supplements).
Avatar f tn With your yellow stools your doctor should be concerned as this could be your liver. There are many medications that can damage the liver, I'm not sure if ibuprofen is one. Anti-inflammatory meds can damage your stomach causing burning and even bleeding, I had this aften 10 days on Advil! Google your meds and see what their side effects are, one of them may be the culprit. Your doctor has the ability to get you into a GI doctor sooner than Sept., I know because I've worked for both.
Avatar m tn I have been taking maximum daily dosage of generic ibuprofen (3200 mg a day, usually 1600mg at a time). I also take 600mg etodolac, 400 in the am and 200 in the pm. I have been having kidney pain on both sides, and excessive sweating. Could this be from taking too much NSAID medication?
Avatar m tn Had my blood drawn and the doctor told me that I have a irritated liver and to stop takin ibuprofen and stop drinking alcohol but the thing is that I don't do neither that much I take a ibuprofen pill on average live once a week and a I drunk prolly a total of ten times max this semester (in in school) because I have health anxeity I'm started to freak out and I have ****** insurance so the doc jus told me stop doing them to things and sent me on my way no meds no nothin
Avatar m tn Hi last monday I had a toothache and took quite a few painkillers (ibuprofen mainly) and ever since I have been pooping blood, and last night I had what seemed to be a panic attack (unable to speak, rapid heartbeat, struggling to breathe) and now this afternoon my right eye bag has swollen and hurts every time I blink or close my eyes. Could all these thing be linked or are they separate matters? And should I consult medical advice or see if it all calms down?
