Avatar f tn Yes, they could have affected your liver, as well as the protective lining of your stomach and intestinal tract. There are natural ways of cleansing and healing both of these potential problems. I'd look into seeing a doctor who practices integrated medicine or a naturopath if you don't know how to use natural medicine.
1148241 tn?1294052796 Anything you ingest by mouth is eventually going to go through your liver. From what I've read, ibuprofen isn't as hard on the liver as tylenol (acetomenaphen or paracetamol), but still be careful to take no more than what the label says, and tell your doctor you're taking it. If it works, your doctor may direct you to take more than what's on the label, but again, follow instructions, dosage and timing carefully. Stay away from the "extra strength" formulas.
Avatar f tn The problem with ibuprofen or tylenol is that you can cause liver damage that doesn't manifest immediately. An amount like 10,000 is too much for the liver to absorb at one time, and there can be considerable damage that you don't realize at this time. I think you should go to a physician, relate what you have told us, and get appropriate testing. Also, maybe some therapy.....that's helpful usuallly to everyone. Keep me posted. Good luck and God bless.
Avatar f tn t get rid of it, I have last stage Cirrhosis, am going to need a liver transplant before long, this can be taken safely with liver disease and hepatitis.
1323278 tn?1298122488 Acetaminophen far below the toxic dose taken on a daily basis can lead to liver damage. While ibuprofen can upset the stomach, there is a second drug, Cytotec (Misoprostol) that can protect your stomache while taking NSAIDs There are also enteric coated NSAIDs that do not dissolve in the stomach but dissolve in the intestines. We should always let our doctors know all of the medication, including over the counter, herbal supplements, vitamins and other substances (Medical Marijuana?
Avatar m tn This past 2 weeks I was ill with the h1n1 virus. During the 2 weeks, I consumed over 50 200mg pills of ibuprofen. I have had blood work done twice (5 days ago and 2 days ago). Both resulted in increased liver enzymes. I haven't had any ibuprofen in 4 days. Is it possible that my liver enzyme increase is a result of the "overdose" with the ibuprofen. My doctor has scheduled another blood work screening in two weeks. Will my liver enzymes decrease in this amount of time?
Avatar f tn You need to tell someone now. Is there anyone at home with you? Please get to a doctor or ER and make sure you tell them exactly what you took. There are more appropriate drugs available to help induce sleep, both over the counter and by prescription. Talk to an adult soon. Please... Post an update please.
Avatar n tn Hello and many thanks for your reply..may i ask if you are a Doctor..
Avatar n tn They can, preferably with food. You have to be careful about using too much because both medications can be hard on the liver if over-used. Follow your physician's instructions as to dose.
Avatar m tn So did he have other advice when you told him how little ibuprofen and alcohol you have been taking? I would suggest you improve your diet because the poor diet that college students tend to have is not good for you either. Try to eat vegetables. Even canned veggies are fine to keep you more balanced. They are cheap and easy to heat in the microwave. Avoid sugary and fatty junk and all alcohol and see how your numbers look next time.
Avatar n tn But these are the ranges I have on my blood test, check your blood tests Reference Range. Now for the ibuprofen, i would not advise using that much inless the doctor said its ok for some reason. But thats a high amount, and you indicated you have gastro issues so usually thats not the best choice to use. And your levels could be caused by that, but in my referance range your not high at all....
Avatar n tn I was instructed to take 2 Ibuprofen 1 hour before shot by the doctor my first treatment (Cleared in 12 weeks but came back 3 monrhs after treatment), and now starting treatment again (different doctor ) and he said same thing.
Avatar m tn t go through your liver but a pill would. Everything you put in your mouth goes to your stomach, then into your small intestines, into the blood and straight to the liver before it is sent to the rest of the body. What kind of doctor is he? Mine told me I could take Ibuprofen. My blood tends to be too thick though, so I don't have the bleeding worry that most here have. If you do have a bleeding issue, go with the Tylenol. There is no reason for you to have to stay in pain all the time.
Avatar n tn it depends on your liver damage, almost any drug makes liver damage but if you start with no liver damage you have nothing to worry, if you already have some it is better to avoid it.
543518 tn?1245322027 Tylenol, contrary to popular belief is OK to take if you have HCV, just no more than 4-6 per day. Ibuprofen is also good if your stomach is OK with it and you take it with food. Stronger stuff like opiates are also OK if necessary, but easy to become addicted to if you are not careful. DTD" BTW, codeine is an opiate... Codeine is usually prescribed together with either paracetamol or ibuprofen. One or two codeine pills with either paracetamol or ibuprofen.
Avatar f tn Studies have demonstrated that at certain dosages, ibuprofen can stress the liver and elevate liver enzymes in people with Hepatitis C. Ibuprofen must be used with extreme caution in the later stages of liver disease and for those on interferon therapy. 3. Aspirin – (Bayer, Anacin, Excedrin and others) reduces fever, relieves pain, and acts as an anti-inflammatory and blood thinner.
Avatar m tn I myself have liver problems and the answer to your question would be the Darvocet. While Ibuprofen is hard on the stomach itself and does have a negative effect on the liver, the tylenol in the darvocet will have a greater negative effect because of it's compound. Neither is good for the liver but if you were to choose the safer of the two, it's the Ibuprofen. I have done my share of research on the effects of medications on the liver. I have to be so careful of what I take.
Avatar f tn C with Pegasys/riboviran and my hepatologist actually prescribed tylenol 250mg up to three times a day for muscle aches and pains. No doubt tylenol is hard on the liver, but because my liver enzymes were not elevated my hepatologist said that in small amounts is safe and was effective to help with the flu like symptoms.
Avatar n tn You can take three a day but no more because it could affect your kidneys. Tylenol is hard on the liver. Ask your doctor. The 800mg. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflamatory. It helps me a lot. I can't take Tylenol because of my liver problems, but you should get some good relief from Ibuprofen...
1674921 tn?1304177675 s complicated because an NSAID like ibuprofen might be appropriate for one patient while acetaminophen might be better for another, depending on things like your risk of internal bleeding, the ability of your liver and kidneys to process different meds, and your needs in regard pain reduction.
Avatar n tn Be careful that acetaminophen is in a lot of other medications and if you take those PLUS your own acetaminophen, you might be overdosing it. Read the labels and ask your liver specialist (not just a GP) for his/her recommendation. Here's a quote: "When used within proper dosing limits Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is the only painkiller recommended for person suffering with advanced liver disease (cirrhosis).
