All opiates/opioids are cough supressants. Promethazine cough syrup can be compounded with either hydrocodone or codeine. Taking an occasional Vicodin while on treatment is not drug abuse.

Well, tussionex is part hydrocodone which is a semi-synthetic opioid and part chlorpheniramine which is a type of antihistamine. So some people can be more sensitive to the hydrocodone (vicadin) part of the cough syrup. It is a fairly addictive drug and some people have genetics (an enzyme called cpy 2d6) that increases the duration the hydrocodone is elevated in their blood. This leads to exaggerated effects or feeling of euphora and other symptoms.
I was given Hydrocodone for my upper respitory infection to help with cough and sleep better. The paper says it may interact with some medicines. Does it interact with birth control?
m annoyed because of all the politics right now that the medical community is not trying to figure out why Hydrocodone works so well for certain ailments and either coming up with better solutions or learning to use it better. I'm a long time sinus sufferer and hydrocodone with chlorotab which is the same thing as tuscinex works. It also gives me energy and focus. I believe I probably have limbic ADD. The last thing I want to hear is how addictive and the long bad road they can take you on.

Despite being in pain right now, I can't tell you how relieved (almost giddy) I feel knowing that somebody else recognizes this chronic coughing as a withdrawal symptom.
IBKleen, my COPD mostly manifests itself as bronchitis and asthma.
I know it's cough syrup. Or, more precisely, it's hydrocodone that is used for, among other things, cough suppression, as well as pain management. That is why he told me to use it for sleep - it suppresses any pain and actually works well. I'm not sure why it comes as a syrup - maybe people with a cough want cough "syrup", not pills?
As for Doctors prescribing it for anything else, it's called off label use, and unfortunately Doctors do that all the time.
So I began another regimen of Amox-Clav 875mg, prednisone, cough syrup with hydrocodone in it, After finishing all of that round of medicines, I felt better but still not back to myself at all. Now after a week+ of being off antibiotics I am as sick as ever!! Very dry cough, splitting headaches, fever that comes and goes, plus the new symptom of waking up with my back hurting so badly I cannot sit up by myself.
told her no hydro in cough me been clean for 14 days today,fille scripts came home to antibiotic and 1 teaspoon of cough med 15 min later I said wait a minuet I know this warm fuzzy feeling,got out cough med did internet search sure enough hydrocodone!!!!!!!!!!!!! That has to be for me the worst symptom of withdrawals. I would cough and cough and cough and not be able to sleep. Well....I couldn't sleep anyways but that added to it! I sucked on menthol cough drops all night while I was sleeping and now that I think about it I could have choked. I already have bad allergy symptoms and sinus problems so if you do too then you probably were just masking them with the meds and now you actually can tell something is wrong.
I take the lowest dose of hydrocodone for pain. My physician tells me I have to be seen by her every three months in order to get my prescription refilled. That is 4 times a year and my insurance only allows for 4 co-pays a year. That means if I get sick and have to be seen by the doctor I have to pay full price, because I have used up all my co-pay visits just to get my prescription refilled. Is this right?
If the medication is strictly for cough from collapsing trachea, or kennel cough than any cough suppressant should be effective. Prescription cough suppressants are usually human preparations that contain codeine or hydrocodone. Many of these are available in combination with an anti-histamine in a cough syrup and some are in tablet form. Your vet can give you a prescription of one that is appropriate for your dog's condition and the medication can be filled at a human pharmacy.
I have had an annoying cough for 44 days now. It's a tickle in my throat that I can't relieve with hot honey water, essential oils, marshmallows... You name it I've tried it. I have no other symptoms, no stuffy nose, no sore throat, no fever, etc. I cough so often, maybe every 2-3 minutes. I barely sleep because I'm coughing.
I have had a persistant cough for 6 months. Was told by primary doctor that it was asthma but my cardiologist says its not asthma because I'm not wheezing. I have been abusing hydrocodone cough syrup for approx 16 yrs. I have also started abusing norco 10-13 day since Jan. Both started for valid reasons. I was functioning farly well until last year. Two weeks ago I have a severe sinus infection, the doctor prescribed some azithromycin, prednisone, and hydrocodone cough syrup, I only took the cough syrup twice, it was too strong and made me hallucinate. Title says it all. I think I'm becoming addicted to hydrocodone. My step dad gets prescribed liquid hydrocodone for his cough, huge bottles of it, so there's always plenty. Oh and I'm 21 years old btw.
I need some answers- I have been abusing Hycodan (Hydrocodone cough syrup) for several months now. I recieved the first prescripton a couple years ago and noticed that i liked it. I would get another Rx off and on for bronchitis or whatever, and during these times i would take more than i should at a time, but when i ran out i never had any w/d. Over the last 6 months or so i have had several refills and hardly went without the drug for more than a day.
I take Cymbalta for about12 yrs. I go on and off of hydrocodone. My lift from the depression is better when taking both. I go off of hydrocodone about every two months . So as to avoid addiction. I have noticed that I am depressed when I stop the hydro. Bad depression the kind where you need someone to sit with you for safety. Not taking hydrocodone is extremely difficult because with out it I am in 8-10 on the pain scale. I have had 6 spinal surgeries and I have no hope for any other surgery.
