Common Questions and Answers about How does enbrel work

enbrel

1544019 tn?1318504526 So just an update about this. Just when we finally got cleared for me to take the Enbrel while pregnant, we find out it's not going to be into the pharmacy until Friday AND it's going to cost $900!!! BUT it turns out it will actually probably be safer for me TO take the Enbrel. I have to control my arthritis because if I don't control it, (according to the lady at the pregnancy risk hotline we talked to today) Rheumatoid ARthritis puts me at risk for still birth and preterm labor.
Avatar f tn how long did you actually take the methotrexate?
422104 tn?1209763904 I have sever pain everyday for 11 months straight now,low back down right leg and ankle also my throat always feels swelled and I wheez alot like my lungs are inflamed. Been on pain and inflamation meds and nothing has seemed to work. How soon could you tell a diff. with Enbrel and are you pain free now?
Avatar n tn Shall I just wait this period and suffer through the pain to avoid taking the Enbrel? Although I really need to get back to normal soon because I have studies and work. 3. Will it get worse, better, or stay as it is while I'm waiting for the symptoms to go away? 4. Will I get such symptoms again in the future, if I'm on or off medications? How bad will it be? Is the antigen I have a factor in having Reiter's chronically?
Avatar m tn Enbrel, Mtx and other drugs suppress our immune system making it harder for us to fight off infection etc. I agree it seems a little extreme for poison ivy, I was off of it for only 3 weeks because of an insurance issue and the pain and stiffness came back with avengeance within 2 weeks. ( I have AS also) It took over 3 months before it even worked for me. I would absolutely call your rheumy back and ask why and what would happen if you decided not to stop it.
Avatar f tn The first thing that came to mind for you is to contact the company that makes Enbrel.. Not sure how differently things work in Canada but here the drug company is paying the co-pay for the first year so I have no out of pocket expense at all. I completely understand your concern, I have been on it for only 4 months and am concerned that the 3 or 4 weeks I won't have will take me back to square one. I'm going to do some research for you this morning and see if I can help you.
Avatar n tn t praise the drug enough fantastic results - i have the chance to visit family in Australia for 4 months when i retire in 18 months time the only obstacle is my medication and how would it work with my getting enbrel injections and it is a long flight - is there a solution around this problem
422104 tn?1209763904 I have severe psoriatic arthritis (it's like RA, just not quite as deforming) and used Enbrel for four years 3X a week plus one injection of metho. For me it was a miracle drug! I felt like a spring chicken again! I could go up and down stairs, I could squat, I could get in and out of chairs or off the toilet without help.............I felt normal for the first time in years. I stopped taking it last August, almost a year ago, and it's been a nightmare.
Avatar m tn No one here knows your medical history. And yes, both meds can work for their respective diseases however interferon and enbrel work differently on the immune system and I don't know if they can even be taken together.
Avatar f tn I would also think that you may want to start with a milder medication and then see how you respond. Enbrel is a drug that they usually work up to, not start out with. I would ask about starting on something for inflammation, like relafen, and then maybe plaquenil. If that does not control the symptoms, then Enbrel might be the next step.
493368 tn?1209757681 I have AS ( Ankoylosing Spondylitis) arthritis of the spine and ReA ( Reactive Arthritis) AS is especially painful and I have no choice but to work as I am on my own. I too am on Enbrel 50 sure click. I cannot tolerate methotrexate and hate how prednisone makes feel. I take Ketoprofen which is a RX anti-inflammatory which does help me and always has ( been sick for 4 years) I have been on Vicodin 750 for that long as well, it doesn't really take the pain away but takes the edge off.
Avatar n tn I literally went from laying in bed for one full year to a point where I can do everything from light jogging to mountainbiking, hiking, home construction, kayak fishing, jet skiing and even wakeboarding. I work out 3 to 4 days a week and have gained my life back due to Enbrel. When I come off of it for a week or so, I really can feel the inflammation coming back quickly so I know my Reiters' is still active. Mine is constant...it does not really flare as long as I keep with the Enbrel.
Avatar f tn I’ve been taking Enbrel for the past 15 years or so with HUGE success! I have since Retired from work last month and now have a limited income. I signed up to Medicare/AARP for my post retirement healthcare requirement. During employment my Co-Pay was 25 dollars for a month supply. Now, Medicare and AARP collective insurance leaves me with 1,000 dollars for a month supply. Retail? $4600-$5500 for a 4 doses (month supply) Is there ANYTHING else that works as well as this?
Avatar n tn Hi. I've had RA for 17 years, on Enbrel for the last 8.5. I never wanted to go on MTX because the side effects scare me, and I enjoy a few drinks with friends. A new doctor has put me on it in conjunction with Enbrel because I have couple joints which have been causing me problems. Otherwise, I've been great on Enbrel. I am now in my 3rd week on MTX, and seveal joints are really flaring. I find this very depressing.
475555 tn?1469304339 Wow did my home work on Enbrel and found out on my own about Enbrel, as you suggested....copied this below from a long list of concerns.... But I believe we all react differently to meds...but as a newbie this sounds to risky for me and I will stick with the old and true for now. I am so glad you have had a positive experience with this. Apparently from what I read there are a myriad of lawyers waiting in the wings for someone to sue....as they are want to do!!!
Avatar f tn Not too bad, normal range is up tp 20. When I was dx mine was 110, it's at 50 now. Just started the Enbrel last nite and hope this one works. How is your wife doing now?
Avatar m tn Completly cleared me with no side effects and even kept me clear for 2 years after i stopped using it. But Enbrel scares me. Does anyone know anyone who was on it that may be able to shed some light for me?
Avatar f tn m convinced that there is a correlation between these things and the Enbrel. Have any other Enbrel users been diagnosed with any of these inflammatory diseases? My gut feeling is that the Enbrel truly is the cause, but it has worked so well on my joints, I'm hesitant to try anything else. My Rheumatologist is going to argue with me about my hypothesis, but I know my body. Can anyone give some insight?
Avatar n tn weird, never thought that enbrel would be a cause of hpv. I have developed hpv before starting on enbrel. what connection is there between the two?
766574 tn?1238465473 does anyone know about any new medicine for psoriasis?beside dovonex, enbrel, humira.?
Avatar f tn Hi - has anyone who has ever been on Enbrel noticed a rust-colored staining on the hands? I'm not sure if it is directly related to enbrel, but I thought I would ask. My daughter was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis several months ago, and has tried Remicade unsuccessfully. Now, she has had 2 injections of Enbrel, and just today has noticed the staining on her hands. I don't know what to think, so I'd appreciate hearing from any of you.
