Common Questions and Answers about How does crestor work

crestor

Avatar n tn My dr is suggesting that I stop the Crestor for a month and see how I feel at the end of this. Has anyone else been through this?
Avatar m tn I have been taking 1000 mg Niaspan for six years to treat genetically high Lipoprotein(a). Now my physician wants to stop the Niaspan and begin a very small dose of Crestor. His reason is due to a recent study indicating Niaspan as a risk of causing bleeding and/or infection problems. I have already had one bad experience with another statin, Advicor, that resulted in me having permanent lymphedema in my ankles and legs. Now I am unsure about Niaspan.

Ive seen the commercials...and Ive researched online...It seems ok...Ive tolerated Lipitor in the past with absolutly NO side effects. I just noticed today that i seem to be sore...in my shoulder and neck.... as when I would shrug my shoulders...the muscles there seem sore when I do that. Now, maybe I did something...? Sat the wrong way, slept the wrong way...

Avatar n tn I am diabetic since 6 years, two years back i discovered that my Lipo is high( cholestrol 290, LDL and HDL),i start taking Crestor and after that i discovered that my CPK level is 600. i stoped it for two months and went down to 450 , due being Hypolipid i couldn't control cholestrol by exercise or food so i changed three doctors and each gave me a different Statins and the CPK now reaches 1375 . , i tried Ezytrol for a while but it's effect was very low .
Avatar m tn Crestor - a statin - can cause liver enzyme elevation and slight elevation in bilirubin. You didn't mention how long you've been on Crestor but the general approach when initiating statin use is to get a baseline liver function test and then check again in a few months. Despite that fact that statins can cause elevated liver enzymes it is not clear that liver damage results from statin induced enzyme elevation. This is something to discuss with your doctor.
907968 tn?1292622204 I'm on a 30 day trial offer from Crestor (20mg) to replace my Simvastatin (20mg). I'm sure I know the answer to this question but hearing other opinions would be welcomed... As I understand it, Crestor is a bit stronger than Simvastatn, or should I say, You can take a smaller dose of Crestor to equal Simvatstatin. Other than the equivalent dose change is there any other differences - side effects I should be looking for?
Avatar n tn I was on Crestor for a couple of years, and last year I started getting PVC's. I was taken off Crestor because my liver function started showing up with issues, and my cholesterol was VERY low on it. I was only on it because I am diabetic, and they want much lower cholesterol than normal. Regardless, since I have been off the Crestor, my PVC's are now gone. Not reduced, but gone. They slowly tapered away as the Crestor left my system.
Avatar f tn I have taken Crestor 10 mg for 6 weeks and then my hair started falling out. Anyone experience this? Tests ruled out any other source of problem.
Avatar n tn From a thyroid standpoint there is not more to do besides a trial of adding some T3 (ie cytomel) but research suggests this does not work for most patients. Would also keep working with an internist to make sure nothing else is happening (ie a separate muscular problem).
Avatar n tn My Asthma Dr. said that he would consider changing from Lipitor 5 mg to Crestor (dosage not yet mentioned) after 1 more blood test. 3 years ago another dr. suggested a change, but cardiologist said no need to. Another Dr. (forum) suggested using, in addition to Fish oil for tri-glycerides, niacin. And he said statin users should take CO-enzyme Q 300 mg.
Avatar n tn The statins you listed all have been beneficial in reducing cholesterol. Studies tend to show that Crestor and Lipitor work more effectively but responses can vary with individual patients. Once you start your medication, your physician will check the levels again and can readjust the medication. Crestor has been shown to increase HDL in some patients but not all. Get your lab work retested after starting to see if there needs to be further adjustments made.
Avatar n tn I did some research on crestor after I posted my first question and saw that there have been lots of issues with Crestor raising blood sugars in type 2 diabetics. The Crestor site even says that this can happen. If you google Crestor raising blood sugars there are many websites that come up. I am not disputing the fact that diabetes is progressive, but it is just so odd that days after starting these meds my blood sugars started getting out of wack.
Avatar f tn My first question to you would be whether you noticed this problem of premature ejaculation after starting Crestor? If yes, then Crestor is the culprit. Though, not a very common side effect of Crestor, this drug can cause loss of libido or premature ejaculation or both. Similarly, Nebivolol, which is a beta blocker, can cause ejaculation issues and erectile dysfunction.
Avatar f tn I hvae been hypothyroid for over 25 years. I am now 55 years old. I have been on Armour thyroid for years, then they switched me to Synthroid. It really didn't work for me. Switched back to Armour and worked for about a year. Now last week my TSH level was 23.57; also BUN was 30H; cholesterol 233 and LDL 166. They are putting me on Crestor for cholesterol. My concern is the thyroid levels. I just get so tired and put on so much weight when the levels are off.
Avatar m tn How much Crestor were you taking? With the Cholesterol levels given in your original post, I wouldn't take more that 5mg.
Avatar f tn Prior to this it has always been in the normal range...I have recent blood work results from August, May, and January of 2013 to compare it to. What could this mean? It was my Endocrinologist who ran the blood work. I see him every 3 months because I am insulin resistant (not diabetic). He didn't even mention the elevated ALT...but I saw it once I received the faxed results.
Avatar m tn I'm 57 years old male with permanent AFIB and High Blood since 2002. I am taking Propranolol, Digoxin, Warfarin, Zestril/hctz, and Crestor. I've seen a cardiologist in 2010. He tried a cardioaversion it worked for a few days and went back. He seems to think it was my sleep apnea that caused it to go back. I went on a BI-PAP machine since then in July 2010. Nothing is really getting any better. I get weak,light-headed and foggy at times. How should I proceed with my treatment?
894666 tn?1274097896 I know that some people with Hashimotos will also have high Cholesterol. Does anyone know if the thyroid levels are brought in line with medication, will the high Cholesterol resolve too?
Avatar n tn I went off the crestor for 5 days to see if the itching quit but I am still itching all over. How long do I have to be off crestor to see if that is what is making me itch? I also get little red bumps, no blisters or anything like that, just tiny bumps and itch horribly. I am ready to scream. any ideas? Help...
Avatar f tn They are suppose to strip my membranes how does that work? Does it hurt.
