Be careful taking diltiazem (lisinopril). I was on it for medium high blood pressure for 5 years and finally stopped taking it because it had caused deep depression, not to feelings of suicide though. It seemed to build up, so be on the lookout for feelings of not caring and hopelessness. Now I'm on Verapamil and am doing OK except for the ankle swelling. Tried another CB'er (Cartia XT or Cardizem) and had the same edema effect.

I'm a 21 year old female athlete, who just noticed ankle swelling in my right ankle. It's on the inside of my ankle and I have no injury to that area whatsoever. I'm also not experiencing any other symptoms so it's kind of mind boggling to me as to why it would be swollen.

I've been experiencing major swelling in my left ankle and foot. I've been to 4 doctors (Orthopaedic, Vascular, Arthritic and a Primary) and still have no idea what the problem is. I had microscopic surgery on my left knee in June 2006. The swelling in my ankle didn't begin until Spring 2007. Not sure if they're related. It started off as random minor swelling.
It's been five weeks since I sprained my ankle, i've been in therapy for two weeks now and still in pain. It's still swelling and I hear it pop when the PT tried to stretch it. It's this common? How come it's still swelling and when I don't have the brace it's unstable? It tends to twist without the brace. How long does it take to heal and be normal again?
OK so I woke up today and all of a sudden my left foot hurts in my arch and on the bone above it and my whole ankle and foot is swollen. I didn't hurt it seeing as I'm on bed rest ankle nd have been doing just that. Resting. Has anyone had this happen to them? I have a little swelling in my other leg and my hands but my left one is worse.

Sometimes due to a heart disorder the blood backs up in the vessels and causes edema (fluids leaking into the vessels) and cause swelling of the peripheral extremities, but almost always that involves both legs. DR - persistent inflation abdomen/stomach area and frequent swelling in left ankle. Comes with back and shoulder pain.
The pain in abdomen is experienced when pressed otherwise I just feel the heaviness.

Few times a year I get swelling in left ankle which lasts about 2 weeks and through out the year randomly I get tightness in left ankle.
I am a Male, 78 years of age and considered myself in pretty good health but my left Ankle shows mild swelling at the end of the day. My VA PA is all excited and has ordered an EKG with 30-day Blood Pressure and Pulse Monitoring and follow-up Echo-Cardiogram.
My average BP was 115/70 w/pulse 76 over the 30 day period and my ankle swelling disappears overnight.
The VA is well known for over-doing everything, which I can appreciate, but its very difficult to get information from them.
So I'm 32weeks and I know some swelling in the extremities is normal with pregnancy. And I'm going on Monday for an appointment anyway so I'll ask my doc But I fell Thursday. But when I mentioned that my ankle was extremely sore and much more swollen then I know it should be they didn't seem all that concerned.

Usually conditions of heart, kidney, liver or low protein or severe anemia, which cause ankle and feet swelling, cause both ankles and feet to swell. Hence you will need to get heart function assessed by ECHO and EKG, get kidney and liver function tests done and get a complete blood picture for anemia. Low sodium in blood, hypothyroidism and malabsorption syndromes causing low protein in blood have to be looked into.
For the past year and a half I have been experiencing swollen legs and stomach bloating. The leg swelling primarily affects my calves, and somewhat my thighs, but it doesn't extend to my ankles or feet. It is non-pitting and gets worse as the day goes on. I usually wake up with my calves back to normal size, but they progressively swell throughout the day, with them at their worst at night. I also have stomach and digestive issues, and bloating has been another constant symptom.
