Common Questions and Answers about How an elisa test works

Avatar n tn Dear Doc (and forum readers), About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though. I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
461010 tn?1208482459 The manufater (Inverness medical) doesnt say what generation its, but after reading how the test works, it works like a 2nd generation test. an the rapid test are as good as any elisa for negative result.
Avatar m tn elisa test is an extremely accurate test. Its window period is 3 months after the last exposure. A negative result, which is given by taking this test 3 months after an exposure, is fully conclusive.
Avatar f tn I second this. An EIA or ELISA test is tremendously accurate.
Avatar f tn I'm curious as to how the igg herpes blood test works. Is there ratings on how low or high antibody levels are or is it just they are present or they're not?
Avatar m tn Secondly, you need a test at the 3rd month with an antibody test. Could be ELISA, CMIA, ELFA etc. As long as it is an antibody test it works. ELISA is just the technology of the test used to detect antibody. However, it's the most conventional technology and widely used. Thirdly, oraquick is an antibody test and uses the ELISA technology.
Avatar n tn You are not positive for HIV until they come back with the result of the western blot. Did you have unprotected vaginal or anal sex? When was the last time?
Avatar m tn Well I told the Gyno that I had unprotected sex she ran all STD tests. I'm assuming they did an Elisa test first and it came out positive. I thought they were required to do that. When I asked at the second appointment she didn't specify. When I mentioned the Elisa results she just shifted to the WB results. Not sure what that means. I've seen other people having same results and it turning out negative, but everyone's situation is different.
Avatar f tn can any one tell me whether 12 week (84 days) 1st generation elisa test result is conclusive or not? If not then what is the parcentact of accuracy at week 12?
Avatar f tn how accurate is a negative elisa test 3 weeks post risky exposure for a woman (unprotected sex) with a hiv positive man? my doctor says its 100% accurate, is this true....
Avatar m tn Now ive booked for a blood test in London but its £160 (no blood tests avaialble on NHS) and they tell me its the elisa test/biokit. My question is: Is this elisa test worth paying this much for? they tell me its type specific but is it accurate..anyone know?
Avatar n tn s test but it came back negative. my questions is, how accurate is the test? ive heard you can ge false negatives. all my symptoms (peripheral neuropathy and fatigue) seem to jive with lyme's and my dog contracted it before i came down with it (dog eventually died). is it worth seeking out a specialist? do long-term antibiotics help? any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar m tn I took with me the Western Blot and Elisa test that showed I had 4 active bands on it. The blood test she did showed that my CD 57 is 20 and my vitamin D and B 12 are real low. She wants me to take Doxy and Flagyl for next 4 weeks and see how I do. She states that she cant say for sure that Lyme is casuing my immune system to be beat down but she is treating me like it. So my question is this: She suggest doing the Ignex test for Bartonella to be sure.
Avatar m tn hiv window period is 12week~84day izzit?what gerenation elisa hiv test also is 12week hiv window period?i need to any test agian? can i move on now and stop worry hiv?can i unproteced sex with my wife now?sorry for my bad english...
Avatar n tn She was sent to have RIBA test but in ElISA test ,which was taken 2 times, the anti bodies were high! showing of virus activities in her body. As she works in a sensitive area and all the kids always have tests before having any treatment in cell transplantation and none of the patience has this disease, how can she infected by this disease!? She has had no injections, no injuries , no surgery , no sexual activity etc.
Avatar f tn t do their testing through Igenex and this makes me nervous. One person on the ILADS list is an APRN and works out of her home. Is this something that would raise a red flag? I was wondering if there was anyone who knows of good doctors within a 4-5 hour drive of Kansas City?
Avatar n tn I took an Elisa test and it was positive and I took a Western Blot test and it was negative. The syphilis test was negative. So I am taking another Elisa, Western Blot and PCR test. What are my chances of these tests being positive???
Avatar m tn 1 percent of the population is a low incidence of hiv, every elisa test is good at 3 months, that you have been told already, with each generation of test they get to detect a little bit earlier, elisa has been used to detect many viruses other than hiv, its an extremely reliable way to test for a virus, to culture for the virus takes to long. i doubt if they still use first generation test unless its home access test, also rapid test like oraquick are equilivant to 2 nd gen testing.
Avatar n tn Is it possible to detect false -ve result in western blot test after performing ELISA test, what is the condition of person who has come with +ve ELISA test but -ve in western blot test. How much accurate are WB test as if ELISA test can have false +ve test then how can some some say that WB test are accurate if come with -ve result.
Avatar m tn Kaisernetwork.org says that the OraQuick test is 99.8% accurate. It also turns out these tests can return false positive results. However, I would recommend an HIV anti-body blood test over an OraQuick test any day. I have seen that tests like this don't really help with the fear one might have over being infected with HIV.
Avatar f tn Hiye, this may seem a silly question but is the Elisa test that is used for HIV the same as the Elisa test used for rheumatoid arthritis?.. Is the Elisa just a standard antibody test that is not disease specific and if reactive then a specific test is used?..
