How amitiza works

Common Questions and Answers about How amitiza works

amitiza

605458 tn?1539228808 Is it to prevent a side effect, such as nausea, or does it have something to do with how the medication works?
Avatar f tn You can try using other medications for constipation to see if that works better. Amitiza is a new one out there but sometimes certain ones work better than others. Has your doctor ever mentioned abdominal migraines?
974371 tn?1424653129 Hi, the most reported common side effect of amitiza is diarrhea. It can also cause abdominal distension, nausea and abdominal pain. It can also cause fecal incontinence. Like your doctor suggested you can continue this medications for a few more days before you give up this medication. Regards.
Avatar n tn My daughter began amitiza and it has worked wonderfully, however, she is spotting in between periods. Is this common?
Avatar n tn Hello All. I'm really new on the panel and I'm searching for help. In the last two weeks I have not been able to have a BM. My doctor gave me some samples of amitiza 24 mcg. I've been taken them 2 per day for the last 4 days - One at night and another in the A.M. With the 1st tablet I had a BM. I have not had another BM since. It doesn't seem that I'm having any normal digestive sounds or movements. I don't even have the urge to have a BM.
Avatar m tn Also take Lactulose and Amitiza. However, in order to take the Amitiza must take a nausea pill before and after. Often times still have nausea with the Amitiza and not convinced it helps all that much. I've been at this for 8 yrs and have done everything but stand on my head. Without pills and powder - bowel movements are difficult and every 3-5 days. And only partial. EXTREMELY bloated. Have difficulty fitting into street clothes later in the day. Makes work life and social life difficult.
Avatar m tn i feel pain in my right thigh immediately after i get up after using the toilet. it stays for some time & then goes away after some time when i get going for other works, but sometimes it stays for quite long. what should i do??
Avatar n tn Has anyone gotten there skin tag burned off? How long did it take to heal? I did and its been a month and it still hasnt healed. Having trouble with constipation and I am on amitiza. Any advice is welcome. As well, my doctor told me to take a stool softner twice a day to. Thinking about starting to eat soup.
Avatar f tn Opiates will bind you up! Ask your Doc for "Linzess" or "Amitiza"....they aren't laxatives but you take them daily so you can go. I'm on opiates 10 yrs. now for a fractured hip and I use those meds. Remember, I'm NOT a doctor; this is just MY experience. Use Miralax, too.
2102085 tn?1350866645 I went to a gastroenterologist the next day and she thought it was IBS and prescribed me Amitiza and Bentyl. I have been on the Amitiza and it makes me have frequent watery BMs...and the Bentyl does not do much. The pain is constant and I feel like I'm pregnant I'm so bloated (I'm not!) could this really just be IBS? Could the pain be reproductive (i.e. ovarian cysts) I'm going to school for nursing and it is really interfering with my education...
Avatar m tn Have you tried taking magnesium citrate every morning? Have you tried Amitiza? I have not tried Linzess yet, but Amitiza is pretty good for me. You could try taking walnut hull and wormwood preparation for parasites to see if that helps you.
Avatar f tn Ok so I have been diagnosed with ibs and a very slow digestive system so thereforemi might have a bowel movement once a month, when this does occur it is very painful im talking up there with child birth and I know how that feels, my first child I felt everything so its so painful and I can feel it moving in my tummy as its going down and as it does that it literally feels like it has glass or nails in it along with this painful experience I have to were I dread having bm's this process is
Avatar m tn I would recommend a sitsmarker test to see how your motility is. I also think that an abdominal CT scan would be a good idea. I personally believe that removing the colon is the last resort for constipation so I'm going to suggest a couple different ideas. First, try a really low fiber diet. Usually people with constipation need a high fiber diet, but occationally this will actually make things worse.
Avatar m tn Mammo, thank you so much for taking the time to reply..........I was on probiotics the entire time, religiously! But they never helped, and then 5 days ago when the doctor prescribed Amitiza, Miralax and Citracel, he told me to stop taking probiotics because he said they can cause constipation. Would you happen to have any other ideas??!!??!!
Avatar f tn I had an endoscopy and found out I have a large duodenal ulcer with partial outlet obscrtuction. Can I take Amitiza with this ulcer?I was supposed to have a colonoscopy but I couldn't get completely clear.I was put on a drug to help heal the ulcer and a proton pump inhibitor.I just want to know if it is safe to amitiza.I am on opiods so I need it.
Avatar n tn I have done the doxycycline and a few other therepies that my gastrointerologist recommended. They would work for a while and then would get worse agan. I am now taking Amitiza and am doing pretty good with it. Though I have now started noticing a correlation to my menstral cycle and the onset of these symptoms. A week before i start my period I will stop haveing BMs. Completely. I won't go again until I start. And then I usually have to induce it somehow.
Avatar m tn As for the constipation, try taking one capful (the little cup thing that comes with the bottle) of milk of magnesia every day. Talk to your GP about Amitiza, you might be a good canidate for that, as well. Not every constipation problem needs fiber as most people (and some doctors believe)-I did that for years and my problem continued. I laid off the fiber as directed by my gastroenterologist, took the Amitiza & m of m each night and my troubles were over.
569676 tn?1315641158 Below is an article explaining how and why suboxone works. This was written by Dr. Richard Gracer and is very well written in understandable terms. How Buprenorphine Works Buprenorphine (Subutex) is an FDA approved drug that is used to treat opiate (narcotic) dependence and prevent its relapse, to decrease the withdrawal symptoms when getting off opiates and in some specific circumstances to treat chronic pain.
Avatar n tn It started without any warning and continues. Sitz marker abnormal as all markers were still present; no obstructions seen. Given amitiza; works well enough, but have heard others have much better success with it. Twice during the night I have had loss of bowel and bladder control and did not know it until I awoke the next morning. MRI's of lumbar and thoracic read as nothing of note. Where do I go from here? I want a diagnosis, not a bunch of pills thrown at me and a shoulder shrug.
