Avatar m tn Low testosterone has lots of effects like fatigue and weight gain. It can also make it harder to lose weight. So my metabolism may not be the most important thing right now.
Avatar f tn A couple of members here, including myself, watched Robin McGraw yesterday speak about bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Did you know that women as young as their teens can have hormonal imbalances ? And that you can show signs of perimenopause in your 20s... feel horrible and be misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia ? And yet the medical field has failed us again on this other issue.
Avatar f tn Hormone therapy is really not reccomended after batteling cancer,,,ask your Dr his opinion of a herbal called Black Kosch it is known to be good for hot flashes do NOT take it without his permission, I have no idea if it is safe for you or not.
Avatar m tn Do you need hormone replacement after ovary removal in a 63 y.o. post-menopausal women?
Avatar f tn The thing is, these studies are on post menopausal women. I can see where taking a replacement hormone when your body should naturally not be making this hormone anymore could be bad and I wouldn't do it. But what about the people who were thrown into surgical menopause at a time their body would still be producing it?
Avatar m tn About 13 months ago I had surgery to remove a pituitary tumor and I am now on full hormone replacement. For the most part my recovery has gone great. However, I believe I do have problems with either the dosage (.125mg) of my thyroid hormone or the drug itself (levoxyl). I have an endocrinologist that has been with me since the surgery and they refuse to change anything because my T4 level is in the "normal" range at 1.5.
Avatar f tn I was had my thyroid removed in Oct or 2009 due to cancer. My recent TSH test levels are .0236. I have always been a thin, but since my surgery I have gained over 30 pounds, 15 of those in last 12 weeks. Since my surgery, I have changed my diet significantly and excersie more. Why am I gaining weight & what can I do to get back to my pre-surgery weight of 115? I currently take Synthroid 125 mcg.

Avatar m tn Have any of you had success with hormone replacement. The symptoms I mainly want to fix are fatigue, aches, erectile problems, weight gain, and the feeling of not being well. Also I am planning to have kids soon I have read that testosterone replacement therapy can cause infertility is this true? If so is their anyway around it? I want to have kids soon , but I hate feeling this way. Does insurance pay for TRT or do you guys pay out of pocket?
1319991 tn?1274357816 48yr old male on hormone replacement therapy for over 10yrs. Being seen for extreme fatigue, loss of concentration, recent ED issues. Blood test exceptions show higher RBC & higher Fe levels as well as low FreeT levels at end of injection cycle. Dr. is considering shortening time between injections from 10 to 7 days or raising dosage from 0.5cc to 0.7cc but concerned about a possible increase to RBC count.
Avatar n tn Post your FT3 and FT4 levels. If you can't lose the weight, maybe you'd benefit from your levels in the upper 1/3 of the range, not just 'in range' as so many clueless endos are apt to leave you. The reason many of us don't lose weight is because many endos still don't test/treat FT3 levels.
733275 tn?1266960586 The idea of taking hormone replacement is to get your hormone levels normal and to keep them normal by continuing hormone replacement. Its not a cure drug that you stop taking once levels are reached. Dropping med will make you hypo. Is there more info shes not giving you? Just what exactly are your symptoms?
718868 tn?1230730029 I too am on the vivelle dot patch, I change mine every 2 days and also take estradiol one tab at bedtime. I am like a new person. I think they have finally gotten my hormone replacement right. I must say that premarin is one of the older, not so good hormone replacement products available. There are so many new and safer bioidentical hormones on the market like the vivelle. I would go back to my doc, get your hormone levels checked and demand to be put on one of the safer replacements.
Avatar n tn How long post op are you? and are your taking hormone replacement? when I know this I can give you a more informed opinion.
Avatar f tn Are you currently taking a replacement thyroid hormone medication? If so, what med, what dosage and how long have you been taking it?
Avatar f tn All other things being equal (which they almost never are), a heavier person will require more hormone replacement than a lighter person. When prescribing an initial dose for patients, the starting dose is often based on weight. However, after that, symptom relief and FT3 and FT4 levels are much more important factors. I think you'll find that a number of people of the same weight ae taking varying doses of hormones. Whether or not there is any residual thyroid function is also a factor.
1559779 tn?1294781858 well, I am having female problems and I had told the doctor that I had previously been daignosed so he wanted a full report. Turn out I now have endometerosis and I am on a hormone replacement regimin. I am not sure if i was just miss diaognosed with hypothyriodism, it took the doctors over a year to find out that I don't have cancer I simply had edometerosis, I had to move to a completely different state after seeing 3 doctors in florida and them telling I needed chemotherapy.
Avatar m tn These hormones are very important for normal functioning of our body and if there is a deficiency of these hormones it is important to take hormone replacement therapy to overcome this deficiency. Please relax HRT will not damage your brain but is essential at the moment for you.
