Hormone therapy is really not reccomended after batteling cancer,,,ask your Dr his opinion of a herbal called Black Kosch it is known to be good for hot flashes do NOT take it without his permission, I have no idea if it is safe for you or not.
The thing is, these studies are on post menopausal women. I can see where taking a replacement hormone when your body should naturally not be making this hormone anymore could be bad and I wouldn't do it. But what about the people who were thrown into surgical menopause at a time their body would still be producing it?
It seems that you are undoing some mental issue related to menopause. I think that going through menopause can cause some of the mental symptoms of "foggy thinking loss of memory problems". I am not an advocate of hormone replacement because of the increased risk of coronary artery disease, stroke, heart attack and increased risk of breast cancer.
I used to be the least jealous guy in the US. Then I had a thyroid issue 3 years ago which affected my mood and emotions. I became extremely jealousy of my wonderful wife. I was able to get the thyroid issue under control and went back to my normal un-jealous self.
Fast forward 3 years and my thyroid had a relapse. Once again I'm fighting jealous/controlling thoughts, however this time those thoughts haven't completely gone away with thyroid hormone replacement.
These hormones are very important for normal functioning of our body and if there is a deficiency of these hormones it is important to take hormone replacement therapy to overcome this deficiency.

About 13 months ago I had surgery to remove a pituitary tumor and I am now on full hormone replacement. For the most part my recovery has gone great. However, I believe I do have problems with either the dosage (.125mg) of my thyroid hormone or the drug itself (levoxyl).
I have an endocrinologist that has been with me since the surgery and they refuse to change anything because my T4 level is in the "normal" range at 1.5.
On September 29, 2009 I had a complete hystorectomy with a 10lb adnexal mass removed at MD Anderson. An intestinal type cancer of low malignant potential was found. I am waiting to be sceduled for an MRI & Colonoscopy.
After my surgery I was prescribed Effexor for my mood swings and hot flashes. The doctor has continued to increase the dosage up to the highest = 150 mg per day. All it has done for me is turn me into a zombie.
Im reading a lot of advice against the use of hormone replacement therapy, but the studies I have researched report that its the combination of progesterone and estrogen that is bad for you, and that estrogen alone may actually decrease the risk of breast cancer. My question then is has anybody else read any studies similar?

After hysterectomy, hormone replacement therapy would consist of estrogen alone usually given daily by pill or sometimes weekly or biweekly skin patch.However hormonal replacement therapy should be given for a short time only as long term use may be associated with a small increase in breast cancer.
In my opinion you should consult a gynecologist and start with hormone replacemenr therapy.
You may need hormone replacement - like growth hormone which is the first hormone usually that is effected by any damage and thyroid like enzy noted - but I suspect more is going on and your docs are oblivious. An MRI can only show so much - it is the lab work that really is what you need.
Hello & SO sorry for your discomfort. I suffered terribly from hotflashes-to the point of it ruining my life! I tried hormone replacement therapy & everything from black cohosh...to anything else you can imagine. I finally found a total help in the oddest place LOL. A friend sent me to a psychic, because she felt so bad for the decline in my life! Anyway, this psychic recommended taking turmeric powder- 1/5 of a teaspoon 3 times a week. I thought, what the heck?
I have been on hormone replacement medication for some time now, years, and about a month ago I was taken off it, was told to just quit not to wean myself off them. at first it wasn't so bad but I am having what I think is hot flashes, I have had them many years ago so I know what they feel like but all of a sudden my face gets so hot and I am sweating, this seems to be happening a lot. should I try to get back on them or not.
my OBGYN I had in TX. ( went to her for over 10 yrs.
