3828469 tn?1358462325 m watching an episode where this lady has a week old baby boy and her hoarding is so bad there are dead rats everywhere! Like seriously how are these people allowed to take their kids home and keep them!?
Avatar f tn Hi, I stand corrected. Was watching one of those sort of horridly-fascinating shows last night on TV that is about hoarders, except this one is about pet hoarders. They visited a couple's house who had 24 cats. The vet who was talking to the couple and she went into the room where the catboxes were, and commented on the smell, and she had handheld meter that she set down on the floor. It measured ammonia in the air.
662972 tn?1270166301 She has 26 animals 11 outside big unfriendly dogs that only she can interact with which is ok, 6 inside little dogs and 6 or7 inside cats now she lives in older 2 bedrroom 2 bath trailer which is fine but once you walk in door all you smell is cat pi$$ awful and her house is a plum mess something you would see on tv hoarders that bad. She loves her animals and takes care them but not house.
Avatar f tn My sister had two cats when she had her twins that were inside cats and it was fine. I heard that out door cats sometimes have toxoplasmosis because they tend to eat dead birds and mice. If your cat is an out door cat then you can take it to the vet to make sure it doesn't have toxoplasmosis. . If it does then get someone to look after her till she is done the meds.
Avatar f tn and will see what we can do. Yes it is sad. We also separated other cats. We are not cat hoarders, just to be clear. We are now just going to foster a mama cat and her kittens. She had them next door and then moved them to our yard. She seemed to be an indoor cat at one time (that will be another question separate). Anyway, we let them live in the basement. The kittens are starting to get used to coming around us a little. They are not older than 7 weeks probably.
976897 tn?1379167602 I have read that egyptians used to use domestic cats to guard their grain storage areas from rodents and anyone caught harming these animals would have the death sentence imposed on them. They even mummified dead cats and treated them as gods/goddesses. However, from all the varieties today, I assume there must have been more than one origin?
1494027 tn?1288686210 There are several types of worms that are common in cats. Hookworms, whipworms, and roundworms are the most damaging (for cats). Tapeworms are the only ones that come from fleas. The only way any of these can be transmitted to humans is through the ingestion of cat feces, or in the case of tapeworms, feces or fleas. Even so, they rarely cause any damage in humans. The greater concern would be coccidia and giardia, which are not worms, but internal parasites.
1628756 tn?1299591055 I had perfectly trained cats who were exceptionally clean, the way cats are. Then we rented a temporarily while waiting for our own place to be ready. The cats found spots that they used instead of the litter box. We figured out the problem eventually. The people before us had had a young child who occasionally wet itself. The cats smelled the urine and used those spots. It was not possible, under the circumstances to get them to use the litter box.

Avatar n tn when I woke up I saw the 3 cats were missing. When I asked my children where are the cats my 6 year old son put an overly innocent care and said 'I don't know' and he elbowed his 4 year old sister to say the same. She said 'I dont know' with this stifled giggle. when I started to search for the cats, my daughter ran to the coat closet and stood there. She tried to prevent me from opening the closet door. I opened it.
Avatar f tn So.... my husband's parents are hoarders and I've never been to their house but our daughter has. She's 3 years old. We have a little boy on the way and I just don't know if I want my kids going over there especially if I'm not allowed to.. Idk how bad the situation is and I know my husband is embarrassed. I've never talked to my in laws about it. They make me uncomfortable as is. I have been distant from them for the last couple months.
874521 tn?1424116797 found this article for everyone to read....interesting, I've always thought my cats did dream...my Nemo will often cry out or wail in his sleep. Does anyone else have any experience with this too? http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?
5609181 tn?1375332372 ve had cats all my life and am probably already immune.
1085681 tn?1280176627 t trust to keep things clean, to not attract other new mice. And the issue I have with decon or posion if the cats find a dead mouse, even if we don't put it up here, the mice are gonna die where ever they die. And if the cats get one and eat it, then the posion would be in them. I'm gonna wait and see if the cats just being hede doesn't do the trick. I found mouse poo on my coffe table in the living room today, right after I had eaten breakfast. It was GROSS. Lol ahh..
Avatar f tn I opened the back door and found one, laying on the floor, dead and my four cats singing around it. I wrapped it up and disposed of it. Just 30 minutes later I heard them singing again and opened the door. The squirrel was back. I was annoyed because they had obviously retrieved the animal and brought it back to me. I wrapped it up and went to dispose of it. Guess what. The original one was still there. One of the cats brought a very large rat into my kitchen and put it down.
277836 tn?1359666174 s terrible for the kidneys(this is the number one organ that fails in cats) and it can help form urine crystals, which can cause a urinary blockage(life threatening in male cats). Seriously, all dry food is really bad for cats. There are many members on this forum that would back me up on this AND some have/or are now dealing w/ urinary blockages from the crystals-not fun for kitty and expensive. I know you said that soft food doesn't agree w/ your cat(boots?
141601 tn?1264728709 I opted to have my cats claws removed by laser. It's more expensive, but more not as painful on the cat.
1206168 tn?1280367231 The other problem is that cats like to play with dead things, and dead things harbor all sports of infectious organisms. And these bad creatures tend to end up on the cats paws or claws.
506791 tn?1439842983 t understand your comment that the Manada street cats are dying right now, Ru meaning the cats have all been homed?? Or is somethg else going on??
1394098 tn?1385960134 My dog jack has loved our outdoor cats since we got him. And he is quite the lady's man when it comes to our girl cats. He always has had one special kitty. She was a very pretty feral black cat. They were always together. We live near an old school in the country that is often used for our church Sunday school and Bible studies. Jack loves ppl so he gors to see who ever is there and the little girl cat would follow. Well suddenly we noticed Jakes cat wasn't with him for a few days.
1689583 tn?1387752394 Wow 48 weeks of those supplies you guys could have been "Hoarders"
Avatar n tn Now all the hair is falling out, both cats. The groomer used a new shampoo on the cats. The vet said he sees no sign of mites, ringworm, any illness -- the cats are eating, playing, grooming themselves, not scratching. But all their hair is coming out in huge lumps, right down to the skin. The hair is all dead, just waiting for us to comb it out. The groomer says this is impossible. The shampoo manufacturer says this is impossible.
Avatar f tn So am on diflucan. I want to try and keep the lyme at bay. I read that you used Cats claw to help with the lyme. Did it help you? Did you herx from it? Janice PS: You do an awesome job answering everyones questions here.
21064 tn?1309308733 Sorry about the cat STORM! Yuk to the dead birds!! Maybe it's time for a dog : ) Hey, I don't know if you've tried this, but a squire bottle can work wonders during the night...They don't like it and tend to run off or settle down. My parents and my sister have really cool cats!! They are so affectionate and friendly. But, just like people, our animals have their own unique personalities. Thanks for the input....
Avatar f tn They said it was from my lung infection and anxiety, but ever since My anxiety and freak outs get so much worse. My cats still alive though, he's eating and is either sleeping or playful. I just hope I don't have rabies. Any help? Sometimes I feel like I'm acting funny, but I can't tell if that's because I'm looking for symptoms and having an anxiety attack.
Avatar m tn Hi, I live in Cisco, Texas and this town is overrun with cats. I have talked with animal control regarding this over population and according to him he is not even allowed to capture them due to an ordinance protecting cats in this area. I have seen many sick animals all over this town and it is purely heart wrenching to see. I try to at least feed the ones around my house so they will at least not starve but never the less I still lose three or four cats a year.
612551 tn?1450022175 I have used Frontline on my dogs for years, but seem to be getting failures lately on my mixed breed Chihuahua Jasper. In the last month, has been rather warm in NJ, I have found what I believe to be dead tics on his head, around ears. The tics must have been dead for a long time (can't even make a guess at a number) I didn't even recognize it as a tick as it was small and hard, totally dehydrated/brittle/crumbled.
