Avatar m tn HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is the virus that was initially discovered and termed LAV. It is more virulent, relatively easily transmitted, and is the cause of the majority of HIV infections globally. The majority of HIV infections are acquired through unprotected sexual relations. Sexual transmission can occur when infected sexual secretions of one partner come into contact with the genital, oral, or rectal mucous membranes of another.
Avatar m tn If it can be shown to work safely in women, GML might provide the first easy route to a microbicide -- a gel or a cream that women could use vaginally to protect themselves from infection with the human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, which causes AIDS. HIV infects 33 million people globally and has killed 25 million. It is transmitted sexually, in blood and breast milk. In Africa, it is most commonly passed during heterosexual contact.
Avatar f tn You never had an exposure for HIV. Mutual masturbation is not an HIV risk. In addition, your 10 week HIV negative test proves you are fine. ARS does not wait until 2 months post to happen. It usually onsets 2-4 weeks post. Not 8+ weeks. If you want to test at 12 weeks for total peace of mind feel free. It is not warranted. Anxiety, and stress while self diagnosing yourself are extremely likely to be the culprit of your symptoms.
Avatar m tn In my personal opinion, I think oral sex both ways is a risk that is SO low that it is not worth testing and worrying after a one time exposure. The 2 doctors on this forum have been studying HIV/AIDS since its been around and have never seen a person acquire HIV through oral sex. As for the CDC, they are ultra conservative and say oral sex is a risk because its theoretical. Just like me or you could be struck by a small meteor anytime, anywhere.
Avatar n tn A patented product in India and South Africa, patents for Nudoxa have also been filed in EU, US, Japan and several countries globally. Doxorubicin, the first generation drug, was launched in 1960s and gave a new lease of life to cancer patients with its ability to combat aggressive and malignant tumours. This DNA-interacting drug, however, was discovered to cause life-threatening side effects in the form of cardiac abnormalities.
264121 tn?1313033056 Contracting HCV is HARD compared to HIV/AIDS. New infections of HIV/AIDS continue to rise globally while new infections of HCV continue to plummet (and for HCV this trend will continue.) " In 2008, CDC estimated that approximately 56,300 people were newly infected with HIV in 2006 ." New infections of HCV in the same year was less than 30,000. http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/topics/surveillance/basic.
475555 tn?1469307939 So you now have pharmaceutical funded patients collaborating with HIV/AIDS advocates treating viral hepatitis as a co-morbidity of HIV/AIDS rather than a unique disease. The net of fake organizations is huge. How do you spot the fakes? 1. Ask them where their funding comes from. You'll get no straight answers from the fakes. 2. See which organizations shamelessly violated their own guidelines. (i.e.
475555 tn?1469307939 These numbers make it possible to treat hepatitis C globally in the next fifteen years. Editorial Comment [from Alan Franciscus, HCV Advocate editor]: The cost of research and development drives up the cost of drugs, but so does profit. This analysis seems so optimistic when compared to the Wholesale Acquisition Costs of sofosbuvir (Sovaldi) at $84,000 and simeprevir (Olysio) at $66,360.
Avatar m tn I don't know what the fever etc was but I do not believe it was / is HIV. Take a high quality accurate HIV DUO test anyway - but I do not believe you are HIV positive.
475555 tn?1469307939 HCVet- You should consider partnering with the HIV/AIDS community not pitting one diseased group over the other. The HIV community is better organized, has many more political relationships, more lobbyists, a good understanding of how to run fundraising and media campaigns, and all the contacts to do it. Since HCV has become a recognized health problem in the HIV community they have been very receptive about partnering with the HCV org I worked with for years.
Avatar n tn Was not attacking you, really, just trying to bring sense into the discussion. Drug addicts who got HIV or Hep C from sharing needles was because blood went into the syringe and was shared that way, not because there was blood on the needle. like I said there are things we need to be careful about but for me and I said me I choose not to obsess about the near impossible.
Avatar n tn I think that is exactly the point - that there are routes of infection unknown at this time. I remember the case of the little girl in Florida that became HIV postive several years ago and had NO risk factors known at that time. I believe they ultimately decided she was infected by her dentist.
Avatar m tn also, I'm wondering does anyone have any input on whether any of the immune systems boosts currently being used for HIV/AIDs patients are being used for HCV and if so which, and or why or more to the point why not, assuming the current HCV treatments are so far from optimal. Thank you in advance, for any response, and forgive me my ignorance or any Gall I may have displayed in asking for direction. I suppose with liver disease comes come gall as well! Peace and good humor to all.
475555 tn?1469307939 Dieterich (Mount Sinai Hospital in New York) that the phase III BI201335 protease inhibitor trial is closed globally for recruiting new patients. He also informed me that there would be new upcoming trials of other PIs at his hospital. However, when I asked to be put on the mailing list to receive timely notification of these trials, he told me "Not until you have an office visit ". Kinda hard to do when you're ten thousand miles away.
475555 tn?1469307939 In fact, in 2007 there were 15,000 deaths related to hepatitis C, higher than previous estimates - and surpassing the nearly 13,000 deaths caused by the better-known AIDS virus. Everyone here is more than entitled to their opinions... however expressing them as if they are facts is grossiy misleading to other members Best... Will .
Avatar f tn I'm also wondering if there's some website that might tell me where the various candidates stand in their past support of HIV, since I figure that if they have a good history with supporting HIV/AIDS research that they might care about HCV. Anyway, any info would be appreciated. I hope that this will not end up being a debate because that's not what I'm looking for. Happy Holidays everyone.
