Avatar f tn Heartburn, even if it is severe, is normal for pregnancy. I feel your pain and am so sorry you are having to deal with it :( Talk to your doctor. They can prescribe you medication for it. You can use tums, but that will make you super constipated it you take them too often. Nobody wants that... Good luck! Hope it gets better for you. Getting a prescription was a lifesaver for me.
Avatar f tn Had heartburn with each pregnancy, even water gave me heartburn, didn't go away after my 3rd, preggo with my 4th now...it's awful stuff to deal with. I always keep tums and Zantac close by!! Good luck!
Avatar f tn I found that panting like i was having a conraction helped with the pain of it! I lived on antacids during my pregnancy and they are safe to take.
Avatar n tn I remember having my heartburn for about 6 weeks in the first trimester. Will your doctor let you take anything??/ my doctor allowed me to take Mylanta, it helped a little, old wives claim it means your baby has a lot of hair !!!
Avatar f tn Im 22 weeks 5 days and was curious if anyone else has suffered from horrible heartburn and bad stomach pain. My stomach pain is like gas pain or something. It has lasted all day. I was up most the night from the pain.
Avatar n tn I cannot survive pregnancy without tums or rx meds due the heartburn. I usually try tums first (actually costco has a great house brand) if that doesn't work, I take rx cimetedine. And the lot of hair thing, also one of those myths : ) I had wicked heartburn and my babies were nearly bald, lol!!
Avatar n tn Hi there, could you elaborate on where exactly your pain is occurring? Your stomach is located above your uterus, so the area of pain should be clearly distinct. It's not uncommon for women to experience indigestion and heartburn more often when pregnant, so you make be having an episode of this. If you feel nauseated, that is also a very common symptom of pregnancy.
Avatar f tn The pain in your lower stomach could be growing pains or as they call it in here round ligament pain. Heartburn is pretty normal any time. If the pains get so bad you can't walk go to the hospital. If there is no blood then that is a good sign. Drink a bottle of water and relax and I hope it feels better soon!
Avatar n tn I would suggest seeing a doctor if you're really worried or it does not subside. Perhaps take a note of when it happens and what you have eaten during the day or night, how you're lying in bed or what time of the month it is (ie in relation to your cycle) as this info might help the doctors find out what is causing the onset of this problem. In the meantime, have you tried chewing on some indigestion/heartburn tablets (like 'Rennie') for eg? They are great for this type of pain relief.
526146 tn?1287445848 For approximately a month I have had excruciating stomach pain. I had a baby 5 months ago and had terrible heartburn for the last 2 months of pregnancy and I wondered if it was that that was re-surfacing. I have also had a LOT of stress in the last year and through my pregnancy. However, it got to the point where I was in so much pain I felt winded. I have pain up towards my lungs and in my stomach. It stops me eating etc.
378497 tn?1232147185 For about the last four weeks, I've had heartburn/reflux (real reflux, too) pretty much every single night. I almost never have had heartburn (unless in late pregnancy), and now, I'm waking up every night, reaching for the Zantac. I can't really take it pre-emptively right before bed because it might interfere with my BCP. Anyone had a problem like this? I don't take in much caffeine, this doesn't appear to be food related in any way. And when I say "reflux," I mean...
Avatar f tn I'm sorry about your heartburn! Have you tried the tums smoothie?
Avatar f tn please tell me someone out there has a remedy, aside of tums for extreme heartburn. i have it everyday, all day. im 31w preggo with ds, and the only thing ive been able to take has been tums. the directions say chew 2 tabs twice a day. how???? thats not enough, and i dont want to take a dosage not recommended. i even wake up in the middle of the night from it. this is too much for me. i have a 6yo dd, and never experienced this while pregnant with her. any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn HI, Hurting of the stomach during pregnancy can be because of gastritis or heartburn. Bland diet, avoiding oily and spicy foods and use of antacids will help. However the pain can also be uterine pain due to uterine contractions which is then a matter of concern. Hence you should consult your Doctor for an examination. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor.
9310208 tn?1410862885 Anyone experience upper stomach pain? Is this due to pregnancy or just maybe a upset stomach?
Avatar f tn you could take medications such as Ibuprofen or Aleve to help with the pain. If you continue to have bad pain, you may wish to consider a laparoscopy to determine whether or not you might have endometriosis. Good luck!
Avatar f tn they told me to come back in a couple days so they could check my hcg level again they told me the cramps were normal in early pregnancy and would go away..i am also have signs of pregnancy like frequent urination, heartburn, cravings.. etc. i went back a couple days later and my hcg level only went up to 190..(its suppose to double everyday) they were worried and said i might have an ectopic pregnancy which means the baby could be in my fallopian tubes instead of my uterus..
Avatar f tn I had a relatively smooth pregnancy up until third trimester started and then heartburn became my worst enemy. I've been married to Tums ever since and I hate it. A glass of milk will give temporary relief but only for a few minutes and not if you lay back down. I feel your pain, stomach acid crawling into your throat when you are trying to sleep is awful.
Avatar n tn I'm a healthy,non-smoking 28 year old female entering into my first pregnancy. Other than breast pain, my only complaint is the daily ache behind, below my sternum. I've never had this before, but this began about two weeks after pregnancy. I am currently 7 weeks pregnant. I've tried all the suggestions: avoidance of spicy foods, carbonated beverages, mint, but nothing is helping. It is even bothersome on an empty stomach.
1662086 tn?1318036167 Sounds like acid reflux to me. I get it a lot and I always get a pain in my throat and back of my mouth. It also gives me a bad upset stomach. Try taking Tums or Zantac and see if it helps at all.
Avatar f tn If you're at the end of your pregnancy, the problem is that as all your ligaments loosen up, so does the top closure of your stomach where it connects to your esophagus. So your stomach acid isn't held down in your stomach, and your stomach isn't very big anyway. So in that case, if you don't want to take something your best bet is just to eat more small meals. Even eat half your dinner, wait half an hour and then eat the rest. Good luck, hope you feel better!
Avatar f tn What Does Heartburn Feel Like? * A burning feeling in the chest just behind the breastbone that occurs after eating and lasts a few minutes to several hours. * Chest pain, especially after bending over, lying down or eating. * Burning in the throat -- or hot, sour, acidic or salty-tasting fluid at the back of the throat.
Avatar n tn Never lay the baby on their back right after eating because the acid from the stomach goes into the esophagus and causes pain. Raise the head of their crib to a 45-degree angle too so they is not flat on their back. Feeding them 5-6 times day help. Feeding that way keeps the stomach acid constant which helps the reflux, they grows, and their weight increases at a steady pace.
210400 tn?1325384170 Amberd, im very much with you. my state is as bad, i have pain in my stomach and i can only stare at food and wonder how tasty it would be. the moment i put it in my mouth, my thrat burns as though someone in there lighted a matchstick...{without exaggeration} then i think i have heart burn and the upper end of my stomach pains sometimes when im in deep sleep and try to turn side. anything i eat lands up in bloating my tummy, gas is there..
Avatar f tn However, technically, acid reflux is the ACTION of stomach acid creeping up the oesophagus (at any height - chest or throat), and heartburn is the FEELING of pain you get from that. Or, acid reflux is the medical condition, and heartburn is the symptom. So they're basically the same, except that you CAN have acid reflux without heartburn (if it's not painful) but you can't have heartburn without also having acid reflux.
177465 tn?1288242063 is it normal to have such horrendous heartburn this late in pregnancy?! I can not lay down on my back even when propped by lots of pillows. Laying on my side is also nearly impossible. I just get this terrible hearbutn and awful, awful chest pains! I feel like someone's blowing up a balloon behind my ribcage......and baby Max is much lower than that! I've just read so much about how when baby drops the heartburn tends to stop somewhat. So why is mine getting 100x worse? Sorry.....
384896 tn?1335297931 I understand where you're coming from. I had bad heartburn almost throughout my whole pregnancy. If I ate nothing. If I only drank water.. And it did not matter WHAT I hate, I tried everything just like you did.. Nothing helped but the Tums. They worked wonders. On the up side though, I think that old wives tale may possibly hold some truth to it. I had hiccups almost everday due to my heartburn as well, and.. Riley was born with a FULL head of hair almost half an inch long.
