Avatar m tn Hello Your elevated cholesterol and LDL cholesterol place you at a higher risk for heart attack stroke and limb loss. These are likely a result of your diet and behavioral factors including sedentary lifestyle. The stress test is to evaluate the effects of stress and elevated blood pressure on your hearts function.
Avatar n tn Recurrent Heart Attack or Angina Another use of aspirin is for the prevention of heart attacks in people who have suffered either a previous heart attack or who suffer from unstable angina. A regimen of aspirin for people who already had a previous heart attack reduced the risk of a second heart attack by about one-third. In patients suffering from unstable angina, the risk was reduced by 51 percent. Aspirin can prevent first heart attack and stroke in individuals with angina.

Avatar n tn My mother had a massive heart attack six months ago at the age of 45. All I really know is that the main artery to her heart was completely clogged which caused 20% heart damage. She had a balloon angioplasty and a stent put in to open the artery back up. They weren't sure, however, if she would make it. She always has been fairly petite but a smoker and under an extreme amount of stress.
Avatar m tn After a procedure of having 5 stents in my left coronary artery I had an episode due the fact the catheter had pierced the artery wall, causing a small bleed. It was sealed with a stent, but caused a rhythm problem to occur in recovery. I remember asking the Cardiac Doctor for a bowl because I felt nauseous and the pain from the incision was unbearable. She looked at me, then the monitor and kept shouting "I want you to cough, and keep coughing".

Avatar n tn Please tell me some natural ways to make heart healthy, How can we save us from Heart Attack and any other heart disease.
Avatar m tn So, treating enough people to prevent one heart attack costs $500,000 per year. Since about 70% of the heart attacks were not fatal, prevention of a single death from heart attack would cost even more, approximately $1,700,000. Giving the benefit of the doubt, we may allow for a similar reduction in stroke and say that "only" $250,000 is needed to protect one person from a stroke or heart attack. It is hardly surprising that Astra Zeneca's share price increased by $1.
Avatar m tn Of course there is a difference in preparation and lowering your risks to help prevent stroke or heart attack. Prevention is always the best approach, as much as possible that is.
Avatar m tn These recommendations are based in published randomized trials that showed an increased risk of sudden cardiac death after a heart attack when the EF is persistently low and especially when the patient has new heart failure symptoms. If an ICD is indicated and the patient decide not to get the device, he will be accepting this increased risk for sudden death as the ICD gives additional benefit on top of usual medications like beta blockers. Good luck.

17567 tn?1276202029 So, awhile back I started getting left arm pain, which is generally a wake up sound for a heart attack? Rather than ignore it and hope it goes away I actually did something about it... and went to a cardiologist. After a few tests he tells me my heart is fine but by cholesterol is very high (260) and puts me on lipitor. Cardiologists are very big on driving blood pressure and cholesterol down towards zero needless to say.
378425 tn?1305628294 I am really worried and tired no sleep last night, My mum was life flighted out she has had a heart attack...My emotions of late have been so much of a roller coaster ride. I came on here to write and I am just so tired I cannot seem to concentrate.
967168 tn?1477584489 maybe maybe not? I know how quirky EKG/ECG machines are so I'm really hoping this time it's a false reading. My Primary found a new murmur and I've been so sick for about 5-6 months; not feeling right, more winded than normal, major headaches, different types of chest pain than before and ALOT more fainting spells even with my ICD.
Avatar f tn I think my husband had a mild heart attack early this morning (4 a.m.?). He had all the symptoms as I looked them up. He refused me to call 911 saying he thought he was ok. By 5:30 he felt well enough to rest, and sleep until 7. At 7 he said his chest was still hurting, but it was not a heart attack. He got dressed and left for work, saying he had a busy day and could not call in sick. I am freaking out b/c everything I read says you need treatment within 24 hours.
Avatar m tn I thought I had a mild heart attack after bending down to get kitty toys off floor. First felt nausea, pain in jaw. Heart thomping so bad that I had to lay down and not move. I also took aspirin.
Avatar n tn However, during the surgery, the doctor told us that they did discover some scar tissue/damage to his heart wall from a heart attack that he apparently had had many years ago and didn't realize it. My questions are: 1) Can they tell how long ago the heart attack was by looking at the scar tissue/damage? 2) Is it really possible to have a heart attack bad enough to cause damage/scar tissue and not know you had one?
Avatar m tn I wish I had known about the financial help prier to my heart attack. Had I known I would have had everything taken care of five or more years ago. I can't say I had the same symptoms as you but the symptoms I had told me it was my heart. I had the heart attack and went to one hospital. They could only stabilize me and I was transported to another for surgery.

Our ability to successfully manage the process is significantly improved when the conditions are diagnosed early. Early identification is improved when the public is informed about the risk factors and symptoms of the disease.
