Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine for young dogs

glucosamine

Avatar n tn I have heard many different things about glucosamine for dogs . That is is okay for your dogs, and also that it isn't. There can be many benefits to providing supplements for your dog. It can help them remain healthy and with that even happier. No one likes to deal with a grumpy dog. Can you tell me where I could find more information about glucosamine for dogs though?
Avatar n tn 300 beef flavored pills for 30.97. I buy this for my senior dogs, 14 an 15 yrs old both large dogs. Great results.
Avatar n tn my ***** is 12 years old and been sruggling to walk for couple months now just stiffly she not been in pain and she still running around with other dogs but today her front legs have gone worse and she looks like she in pain?
Avatar m tn Phycox JS is a wonderful all around Joint Supplement for dogs.....Can be purchased online if your interested.....
Avatar n tn My vet said it was ok to get human vitamins for them. He also said it was ok to feed food with glucosamine plus the vitamins.
Avatar f tn I read somewhere that blackstrap molasses works wonders for arthritis pain in dogs. I also heard of extra virgin coconut oil and apple cider vinegar. I am really tempted to mix all these and give it a try. Has anyone tried these? or are there any other natural remedies? My dog has been on metacam but it doesn't work very well, I can tell she is still in pain. My dad keeps telling us to just put her to sleep so she can rest and not be in pain anymore.
675347 tn?1365460645 Please does anyone know the dosage of Glucosamine Sulphate for dogs? How many milligrams per pound body weight? Also, is it ok to give my dog the regular Glucosamine (which people take) as it is so much cheaper to buy that at the supermarket, than to get it from the vet, or to buy dog treats which contain it! Thanks for any help or suggestions, anyone. Ginger.
Avatar f tn If you haven't done so by now, hope you have called your Vet, ER clinic or Poison Control.
Avatar f tn I also buy the Pedigree dog food which has one where it has glucosamine in it for healthy joints. Ofcourse ask your vet if Glucosamine would be ok for your dog to take because I don't know if hip arthritis and hip dysplasia is the same thing. I hope and pray your baby gets better.
Avatar m tn hi have a 14 yr patterdale/lakeland her joints are stiff and shaky i have been giving her adult glucosamine sulphate for a few months now but doesnt seem to be getting any better or worse should i increase the dose
Avatar m tn Ibuprofen is TOXIC to dogs....It sounds as if she is still in good shape, but needs a prescription for pain meds. from your Vet.....Your Vet will have a selection of meds to treat your girl's, what I beleive to be, Arthrititis....They work wonders.... The yellow bile is stomach acid and the Ibuprofen could possibly be damaging her stomach lining.....Usually, dogs vomit bile when they've gone too long without food.....She needs to be fed 2 meals a day and a snack before bedtime.....
Avatar n tn It's probably just age creeping up on him. What type of glucosamine product are you using on him? How long has he been on it? Those products don't work right away. Oftentimes you don't see any results at all for at least 30 days, and you don't get to peak performance until the pet has been taking it for six months or more. So unless he has been on the glucosamine for half a year or more, I wouldn't give up yet and say that it hasn't done much.
558059 tn?1288550944 Hi I have a 8 1/2 year old GSPointer . On recent visit to vets I was advised to put her on Glucosamine & Chrondrotin . She has been on them for 6 weeks now but I haven't noticed any improvement in her general movements. Is it advisable to keep her on these tablets now that I have started. Also could cod liver oil be of benefit to her? She is not good at taking these tablets but loves the c of o capsules!
441382 tn?1452810569 I had the same question a while back, in the Spring. Misty had been showing a bit of possible arthritis in her right hind leg which was broken once. I asked the vet about this because I didn't want to pay premium prices for a "pet brand" Glucosamine, and he said Glucosamine is exactly the same substance, whether it's formulated in a preparation for dogs, or people. And Chondroitin is the same. I believe they are both natural substances obtained from shellfish.
1388999 tn?1370042814 From what I can tell, one level scoop of powder would probably be the equivalent to slightly more than the cosaquin for dog dosage of 3 tablets for 50-100lb dogs. You may want to try adding MSM, its a natural anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. You can give capsules, powder or there are a variety of treats on the market containing it as well. I take it and so does my 13yr old Pumpkin.
Avatar n tn Glucosamine is fine for dogs. There are many formulas made specifically for dogs but its often cheaper to buy the human ones. MSM is a natural anti-inflammatory that is safe and may help too. Some of the dog powders/treats etc include MSM w/the glucosamine & chondroitin or you can get it separately.
2121656 tn?1395674749 It would be better to use a medication that was formulated for humans but used off-label for dogs (like Tramadol) because the preparations that have been developed for dogs to help with arthritis pain, like Rimadyl (carprofen) are extremely dangerous to give to Labradors. It's not uncommon for even a dose or two to make them quite sick or even lead to death. I would also put her on a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement. Even if she is only mildly arthritic this will help her.
Avatar m tn t quite remember, but years ago I started my dog on Glucosamine and Chondroitin, and worked out that for her weight -28lbs- 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin was the correct maximum dosage for her. So if, for example, your dog weighs twice that, she could have 1000mg Glucosamine, and 400mg Chondroitin daily.) Have your routines changed since the death of your terrier? For example, did you all used to go for walks together for longer, or play certain games?
Avatar n tn Sometimes, however, we just have to give in and use mainstream meds. Anything that is best for our dogs. Have you tried UBAvet? It has all natural ingredients and we also use fish oil with Omega 3, which the dogs love because it smells so bad. Hope Dr. Cheng has some good answers for you.
1295500 tn?1272459927 Hi, my questions is I have a 9 year old collie, Sheppard, husky mix dog she's probably about 90 lbs now. She seems to be having a lot of problem with her back legs. Some days she seems fine and other days she can barely get up off the floor and when she does her back legs shake. Right now what's happening is she is holding one of her legs up and walking on three legs.
