glucosamine

Avatar f tn It might be wise to mention your idea to the vet. He/she may be able to give you some recommendations. I think the worst problem would be if your dog was allergic to shellfish....and the second problem would be a too-massive dose for the dog's weight. Otherwise, Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplements are generally without any side effects. Most dogs are quite happy on these supplements with no change to their general health.
Avatar n tn Margaret - You probably should not be feeding those to your dogs because they are not made for dogs. Admittedly, I tried that avenue once because it was cheaper than the "made for dogs" chondroiten and glucosamine that's recommended for larger dogs. It didn't produce any positive effects after one entire bottle so then, we tried arthritus meds. My american bull was experiencing a slight limp. The meds didn't do anything! Finally, I tried Phycox chews.
441382 tn?1452810569 s formulated in a preparation for dogs, or people. And Chondroitin is the same. I believe they are both natural substances obtained from shellfish. The difference lies in what other things might be added, and the dosage levels. So I hunted round to find a capsule which ONLY contained Glucosamine/Chondroitin, and no other additives. Then I calculated the dosage for her of both. She weighs 28 lbs approx. Her dosage is (max.) 500mg. Glucosamine, and 200 Chondroitin.
660872 tn?1238641245 Hi, has anyone tried sharks cartilage or green lip mussels for arthritis in dogs. I recently bought some of each but have only been giving the cartilage. It's too soon to tell if it's going to work. They are both very expensive and I don't want to waste my money if other people have found they don't work.
Avatar f tn Firstly you could start him on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplement. It really does help. You hear that the dog has to have taken it for a few weeks for there to be any noticeable change, but I have found it can take effect quicker than that. To give you an idea of dosage, my dog weighs 28lbs and I give her 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin daily. If his weight is twice hers, or approximately, you can give double that dose.
Avatar f tn I hate to give her so many meds but I rather see her comfortable each day than not to be able to move - she is 11 and hope she lives a long time - I say this cause people say Rimydal cause side effects but that is after many years and I want her to live out her old age as comfortable as she can!! But as far as the trilostane no side effects so far! And she is down to drinking only 1 bowl or so of water a day and her appetite is normal - so the meds are doing their job.
Avatar n tn t do any harm is to start her on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements. This really works, and is completely natural. (if the arthritis is not TOO bad, the Glucosamine/Chondroitin can work wonders) You could ask your vet's advice about this, and about the correct dosage (I would give her the maximum for her weight.) But ask advice first.
Avatar f tn I read somewhere that blackstrap molasses works wonders for arthritis pain in dogs. I also heard of extra virgin coconut oil and apple cider vinegar. I am really tempted to mix all these and give it a try. Has anyone tried these? or are there any other natural remedies? My dog has been on metacam but it doesn't work very well, I can tell she is still in pain. My dad keeps telling us to just put her to sleep so she can rest and not be in pain anymore.
Avatar f tn If you haven't done so by now, hope you have called your Vet, ER clinic or Poison Control.
Avatar m tn hi have a 14 yr patterdale/lakeland her joints are stiff and shaky i have been giving her adult glucosamine sulphate for a few months now but doesnt seem to be getting any better or worse should i increase the dose
Avatar m tn t quite remember, but years ago I started my dog on Glucosamine and Chondroitin, and worked out that for her weight -28lbs- 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin was the correct maximum dosage for her. So if, for example, your dog weighs twice that, she could have 1000mg Glucosamine, and 400mg Chondroitin daily.) Have your routines changed since the death of your terrier? For example, did you all used to go for walks together for longer, or play certain games?
Avatar f tn What you CAN do is to start giving him a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement. These have been proven to be of great help to arthritic dogs with an occasional dose of enteric coated aspirin to help them over the rough spots. Please let us know what your vet says.
Avatar f tn Something similar is a glucosamine/chondroitin combination. Again, be sure it's formulated for cats. In humans, both the avocado-soybean unsaponifiables approach and the glucosamine/chondroitin approach seem to have about equal effectiveness. While talking to the vet, also check about prednisolone is not being considered. It's a steroid and often given to dogs, maybe it's not done that much in cats? But it reduces inflammation.
Avatar m tn Would a like to try Glucosamine & Chondroitin for my mild hip arthritis. Anyone have good results? Dr prescribed Meloxicam 15mg but am hesitant to start taking it.
Avatar n tn Sometimes it is sold in combination with chondroitin, but chondroitin makes my dogs itch. Some dogs tolerate the chondroitin fine, but to be safe, I would first try straight glucosamine, maybe about 500 mg a day. Give it every day for a few weeks, and see if that helps. In the meantime, you can try an enteric coated low-dose aspirin tablet (80 mg like they sell for heart patients, but be sure you get the enteric coated), once a day with food.
Avatar n tn Can I perhaps supplement it with additional glucosamine (no chondroitin)? Maybe the chondroitin is upsetting his stomach. I've ordered Si Maio San to start with and will slowly introduce the other recommended Chinese medicines above one by one. Can he continue to take Forsythia 18 indefinitely? It seems to be normalizing his inner ear equilibrium and balance but he's only taking half the recommended dosage.
Avatar m tn s fish oil with enhanced DHA and EPA (15 grams daily), megadose vitamin E, and megadose glucosamine+chondroitin+MSM daily for anti inflammatory effects for my joint and tendon problems. I am looking to treat trauma of the brachial tendon to treat pain during bicep workouts by using a glucosamine cream. I have heard anecdotally that the cream format increases bio-availability by a staggering amount and that the oral supplement is essentially a snake oil product.
Avatar n tn Whoops - yes, Glucosamine with Chondroitin. There are some formulas that include MSM in them too.
Avatar n tn NSAIDS (Rimadyl, Metacam, Previcox, and others), plus Tramadol, and Amantadine, and Chondroprotective agents (Glucosamine and Chondroitin combinations). Acupuncture is also very effective, as is Stem Cell therapy. She should also be checked for Lyme disease and other tick borne disease that affect joints. All her painful joints should be X-Rayed because some joints may require surgical correction or stabilization. .
Avatar n tn Glucosamine is fine for dogs. There are many formulas made specifically for dogs but its often cheaper to buy the human ones. MSM is a natural anti-inflammatory that is safe and may help too. Some of the dog powders/treats etc include MSM w/the glucosamine & chondroitin or you can get it separately.
