Avatar m tn hi have a 14 yr patterdale/lakeland her joints are stiff and shaky i have been giving her adult glucosamine sulphate for a few months now but doesnt seem to be getting any better or worse should i increase the dose
398377 tn?1201534325 Some of them, yes. Glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM found with the "people" meds are fine for dogs. Just make sure to check with your vet on dosages. There are also senior dog foods that contain varying amounts of these ingredients you may want to try as well. You could also check with Dr. Cheng on the Pet Health board here at Med Help for dosages. Does your dog have osteoarthritis or something more serious like hip dysplasia?
Avatar n tn I have heard many different things about glucosamine for dogs . That is is okay for your dogs, and also that it isn't. There can be many benefits to providing supplements for your dog. It can help them remain healthy and with that even happier. No one likes to deal with a grumpy dog. Can you tell me where I could find more information about glucosamine for dogs though?
Avatar n tn It is very common for dogs 13 years or so to have degenerative joint disease (arthritis). The parts are just wearing out. The problem can occur anywhere there are joints in the body, which include her spine, hips, knees, ankles, feet, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and even in her tail. Lyme disease can contribute to joint pain and should be checked often and treated if necessary.
Avatar f tn ve been giving him massages, and he loves it, but cries when I pick him up Before I try the Bayer Joint Gel again, is their anything different anyone has had any luck with for arthritis?

1295500 tn?1272459927 Hi, my questions is I have a 9 year old collie, Sheppard, husky mix dog she's probably about 90 lbs now. She seems to be having a lot of problem with her back legs. Some days she seems fine and other days she can barely get up off the floor and when she does her back legs shake. Right now what's happening is she is holding one of her legs up and walking on three legs.
2187849 tn?1338068981 Blue's Mom: The Cosequin & Dasuquin are basically the same thing.....Cosequin is one of the original products produced for joint health.....Both contain mainly Glucosamine & Chondroitin for Joint Health.....Statistics report that it does not work on all humans or dogs.....But works wonderful on some...So, it is worth trying to see what the effect is..... Your DGP is an Herbal supplement with Various herbs selected for Joint Health & Inflammation......

Avatar f tn has anyone had this treatment done on their dogs for prevention and maintenance of arthritis if so....... what do you think of the effectiveness of this treatment?.......... Just curious! by the way do not get this confused with nsaid carprofen they are totally different !!!!
Avatar n tn I recommend that all dogs over the age of 3 who do not have joint problems take a good Glucosamine and Chondroitin combination supplement for joint health. If the pet is less than 3 and has congenital joint disease such as hip dysplasia, luxating patella, and others, to start as soon as they learn of the abnormality.
Avatar f tn If Daquin is the same as Seraquin (which I think it is), then it contains Glucosamine, which is probably adversely affecting the kidneys. Most dogs can take Glucosamine without problems, but CKD dogs may have a problem with it. On the other hand, if it is helping with the joint problems, then it's a Catch-22 scenario - you might protect the kidneys more by not giving it, but then your dog may suffer more from the joint pain.
Avatar f tn I am looking for recommendations for a good joint supplement to help ease arthritis pain. Any suggestions would be welcome, just want him to be more comfortable.
Avatar f tn I read somewhere that blackstrap molasses works wonders for arthritis pain in dogs. I also heard of extra virgin coconut oil and apple cider vinegar. I am really tempted to mix all these and give it a try. Has anyone tried these? or are there any other natural remedies? My dog has been on metacam but it doesn't work very well, I can tell she is still in pain. My dad keeps telling us to just put her to sleep so she can rest and not be in pain anymore.
675347 tn?1365460645 Please does anyone know the dosage of Glucosamine Sulphate for dogs? How many milligrams per pound body weight? Also, is it ok to give my dog the regular Glucosamine (which people take) as it is so much cheaper to buy that at the supermarket, than to get it from the vet, or to buy dog treats which contain it! Thanks for any help or suggestions, anyone. Ginger.
Avatar f tn Re the arthritis, have you given her a joint support containing glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin? I used a brand called Next Level and it worked very well for Tootlz when she had joint pains. All the best.
Avatar m tn I'm not sure about what surgery odds are. Does your vet think that joint supplements, weight reduction maybe with a special food at first and then gradual excercise would help? I know things like glucosamine and missing link can be helpful. I also believe German shepherds are prone to hip dysplasia if I remember right. An orthopedic bed and keeping your dog sleeping indoors may also help.
Avatar f tn If you haven't done so by now, hope you have called your Vet, ER clinic or Poison Control.
Avatar f tn I also buy the Pedigree dog food which has one where it has glucosamine in it for healthy joints. Ofcourse ask your vet if Glucosamine would be ok for your dog to take because I don't know if hip arthritis and hip dysplasia is the same thing. I hope and pray your baby gets better.
398377 tn?1201534325 We talked about her slipping patellas - doc said just watch it for now and i could try some joint medication. glucosamine marketed for dogs is so just expensive - i'm going to look at it in the drug store - i believe i have the right dosage. Vet mentioned something about giving her fish oil too - i'll have to look into that. they gave me some kind of spray solution for her mouth - thats supposed to increase moisture. her tongue is drying up a bit from hanging out.
Avatar f tn Hi-The fatty tumors are benign overgrowths of fat cells. They are nothing to worry about at all and do not adversely affect your dogs health. The Rimadyl however KILLS dogs and this is something you need to understand. In fact since the Rimadyl Class Action Law Suit, veterinarians are suppose to explain this and have pet owners sign a release form before prescribing this medication. Rimadyl is also available under many other names carprofen, vetprofen etc.
