Glucosamine and chondroitin dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine and chondroitin dosage

glucosamine

Avatar f tn My own dog took this after a broken leg and it did her so much good. In damp weather she had started to favour that leg a little sometimes. As soon as she took the Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement, it took about one week to see a great improvement. After that, she had no more trouble with that leg. She weighed 30lbs, and the correct maximum dosage for her was 500mg Glucosamine and 200mg Chondroitin once daily.
Avatar n tn t do any harm is to start her on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements. This really works, and is completely natural. (if the arthritis is not TOO bad, the Glucosamine/Chondroitin can work wonders) You could ask your vet's advice about this, and about the correct dosage (I would give her the maximum for her weight.) But ask advice first.
Avatar m tn Hi. Supplements to a dog's diet such as Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate, Omega Fatty Acids, Vitamin E, Selenium, and MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) all assist in decreasing inflammation and improving the body's ability to repair and strengthen tissues. Supplements, however, will not reverse structural changes in a joint such as torn cartilage, calcium deposits and advanced scar tissue.
Avatar f tn To give you an idea of dosage, my dog weighs 28lbs and I give her 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin daily. If his weight is twice hers, or approximately, you can give double that dose. I'd be wary of giving your dog aspirin, and certainly NEVER Ibuprofen (Advil, or anything like that) If he needs a painkiller, get one prescribed. Later you may be able to get this same drug online at a cheaper price.
Avatar f tn I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
Avatar f tn Is the pain in your spine from arthritis? Meta analysis (3786 participants) has shown that the glucosamin/chrondoitin pills do not lead to less pain in people with arthritis.
Avatar n tn Adequan is given only once weekly for a month to six weeks, than at lesser intervals, so it is much easier than having to give insulin. Adequan is more expensive than oral glucosamine and chondroitin supplements, however. To save some expense you could try giving your dog an oral version and if digestive issues result switch to Adequan. Your dog's dose would be 750mg of glucosamine twice daily. Si Miao San would also be a good addition.
1110049 tn?1409402144 In the British news today it says that taking Glucosamine and Chondroitin was no better than a placebo for pain of arthritis. Now I take not for pain relief, but because I thought it helped keep our joints supple and not dried out. Only last week the physiotherapist who was treating me at my local hospital told me to take 1500mg a day. I thought it was something that acted as a building block for cartilage in our joints. I assumed it would help in the long term.
Avatar n tn Whoops - yes, Glucosamine with Chondroitin. There are some formulas that include MSM in them too.
Avatar m tn chondroitin phosphate, MSM, Omega-3). Glucosamine and chondroitin phosphate are unlikely to cause any drug to drug interactions with your other medications. But to date, there has been no evidence of structural improvement with these conservative modalities. So, if your symptoms are severe you may need surgical intervention. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn t quite remember, but years ago I started my dog on Glucosamine and Chondroitin, and worked out that for her weight -28lbs- 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin was the correct maximum dosage for her. So if, for example, your dog weighs twice that, she could have 1000mg Glucosamine, and 400mg Chondroitin daily.) Have your routines changed since the death of your terrier? For example, did you all used to go for walks together for longer, or play certain games?
Avatar n tn It's OK to give "human" grade Glucosamine and Chondroitin to dogs. But you seriously need to watch out for any additives in the capsules or tablets. Artificial sweeteners, Xylitol, sugars, or any other additives, and I would say no -don't give them that stuff. Toxic for them. However, the basic Glucosamine/Chondroitin is EXACTLY the same substance whether for humans or dogs. The difference is -the price. My vet told me that.
Avatar f tn I was on twice a day anti-inflammatory salve (diclofenac) for my knuckles for a year, and then tried chondroitin and glucosamine capsules [based on my finding an excellent double blind study testing them against a placebo].
Avatar f tn It would do no harm at all to start him right away on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements. You do not have to buy the veterinary ones as they are much more expensive. I asked my vet about this, and he said the veterinary one contains exactly the same substance as the ones for humans. So now I buy human ones for my dog. She weighs 28lbs, and her dosage is 1 capsule per day (which is 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin. So you could work out the dose for your dog's weight...
398377 tn?1201534325 Some of them, yes. Glucosamine, chondroitin and MSM found with the "people" meds are fine for dogs. Just make sure to check with your vet on dosages. There are also senior dog foods that contain varying amounts of these ingredients you may want to try as well. You could also check with Dr. Cheng on the Pet Health board here at Med Help for dosages. Does your dog have osteoarthritis or something more serious like hip dysplasia?
1093971 tn?1257833640 What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame. Since you didn’t ask about the latter I’ll stick to glucosamine by itself. If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar.
675347 tn?1365460645 This is a good article about glucosamine and chondroitin. Often vitamin C is evidently added for canines, to enhance uptake. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?
Avatar n tn Seven years old doesn't sound all that old, but since not all breeds have the same life expectancy it depends on the breed whether or not the dog is actually a senior dog at this point. Senior dogs are prone to all sorts of ailments, just like senior people.
Avatar f tn I take Ipriflavone to build my bones as well as Calcium and D3. The Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM does nothing for me. But everybody and every body is different. After experimenting, I found Essiac works for me. - So, Gram551, you might find something else that works better for your body. Also, I forgot to mention that "we" need to avoid potatoes, tomatoes, mushrooms, and eggplant and any other nightshade vegetable/fruits. These cause inflammation and pain.
