The last thing anybody would want is to stop the Gleevec, which is a wonder drug of anti-cancer treatment. So we must think of "managing" the hyponatremia problem.
I haven't found anything about long term use of Gleevec. But what springs to mind is that she might have started some other drug recently, which is turning mild hyponatremia to severe hyponatremia. Even ibuprofen. Has she?
I was diagnosed last year and was immediatley put on gleevec 400mg/day.At my last consult my metabolic stats had risen,hence blood tests to determine if the gleevec is no longer working.I am still in firstphase and wonder what my options are if the gleevec is no longer an option.Amin pretty good form,just very tired and a lot of bone pain.
Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count.

Is it possible that after taking gleevec for only two weeks WBC droped from 36.7 to 7? All other blood counts are also came back to normal range. Could doctor make mistake in diagnosis of CML? Maybe I should get seg second opinion?
I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
After two weeks on 400mlg gleevec my WBC droped from 36.5 to 7.1. My doctor told to come for additional test in two weeks. Now my WBC is 1.3 and absolute neutrophils count is 0.04. I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.

I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.
Most ovarian cysts and masses are benign, even suspicious looking ones. If you do not have a family history or predisposition for ovarian cancer then your lifetime risk is less than 2%.
And yes, the CA125 test is not accurate at diagnosing ovarian cancer. Benign (non-cancerous) conditions can cause an elevated result. A friend of mine had a CA125 level over 1000 (VERY HIGH) when she had a benign cyst. She unnecessarily lost not only her ovary but also her uterus and other ovary.

Your ovarian cancer risk is increased if your mother, sister, or daughter has (or has had) ovarian cancer. The younger your relative was when she developed ovarian cancer, the higher your risk. The risk also gets higher the more relatives you have with ovarian cancer. Increased risk for ovarian cancer does not have to come from your mother's side of the family - it can also come from your father's side.
You might find he starts to be able to tolerate the pill. Gleevec is first choice for treating CML, and if he is doing good in every other way then encourage him that he is doing great.

There are different tumor types of ovarian cancer. Mine is mucinous ovarian cancer. It usual shows up in women in their ealy 40s to 50, most commonly. I am 47. I think average age is higher for other types of ovarian cancer. At your age ovarian cancer is extremely rare. My advice to you is just to take good care of yourself. Get your annual gyn exams and pap smears. They don't show ovarian cancer, but they are important. Don't worry so much. Just enjoy your precious life.
If my CA-125 test level reads 135, is there a likelihood that I have ovarian cancer. I have a 10cm cyst that has not changed size since the first ultrasound. I also have an enlarged uterus and multiple fiberoids, could this have influenced the CA-125 levels? I am 55 years old and have had 2 children and breast fed both?

Yes it is possible to have ovarian cancer without a cyst or mass , especially if it is early ovarian cancer. I would definately go and see this other doctor and tell him all of your symptoms and maybe get a ca125 blood test and a ct scan. If you feel really unwell then the reason has to be found as to why your feeling like that . Hope everything goes ok and let us know what happens.
