Gleevec for pancreatic cancer

Common Questions and Answers about Gleevec for pancreatic cancer

gleevec

Avatar n tn Hi, I don't really know the answer but if you are getting reduced white-blood-cell counts, then I'd especially want to avoid any food with possible bacteria. Maybe Mocha can say more. Also, since a few patients get heart damage, I'd look into possibly using melatonin and Co-Q10 (OTC supplements) to try and prevent that. I'm not a big fan of alternative treatments for cancer, but I think that a few things do have value.
Avatar f tn 00779/full The last thing anybody would want is to stop the Gleevec, which is a wonder drug of anti-cancer treatment. So we must think of "managing" the hyponatremia problem. I haven't found anything about long term use of Gleevec. But what springs to mind is that she might have started some other drug recently, which is turning mild hyponatremia to severe hyponatremia. Even ibuprofen. Has she?
Avatar f tn http://www.medhelp.org/cancer/articles/New-Treatments-for-Chronic-Myelogenous-Leukemia/3 Another helpful site is Cancer.Net, from the American Society of Clinical Oncology: http://www.cancer.net (just enter CML into the search area). Thank you for your question.
Avatar f tn Hi there. It is important to be empathic, and let your brother know that you are always there for him. However, you should not overdo this, since this might lower your brother's self esteem further and cause him to have self-pity. CML is a manageable disease given the appropriate medications. Not all CML's are candidate for Gleevec. Only those who tested positive for the philadelphia chromosome or the bcr-abl gene would be candidates to receive gleevec.
Avatar m tn For how long had the pancreatic cancer been delveloping at the head of the pancreas? Can anybody give an estimation of how long it took for the stage 3 pancreatic tumour to develop at the head of the pancreas?
Avatar m tn Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that after taking gleevec for only two weeks WBC droped from 36.7 to 7? All other blood counts are also came back to normal range. Could doctor make mistake in diagnosis of CML? Maybe I should get seg second opinion?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
Avatar f tn //www.webmd.com/cancer/pancreatic-cancer/causes-pancreatic-cancer Symptoms of pancreatic cancer are found at this link. https://www.webmd.com/cancer/pancreatic-cancer/pancreatic-cancer-symptoms#1 When they speak of light stools they are speaking in terms of jaundice which usually has other symptoms such as yellow skin or eyes. Do you have that as well? If not, I'd not necessarily associate light stools with pancreatic cancer. GERD is likely to cause yellow stools.
Avatar m tn What is the best exam to rule out Pancreatic Cancer? I´ve been expericieng some problems in the last month: my stools are different, vague low abdominal pain and vague back pains. I am very anxious. After read about Cancer Pancreatic I can´t put my mind at rest and started feeling minor itches. My doctor asked a ultrasound and some blood tests. After the results he said it is fine for Pancreas. But I have other problems: 2 stones in my gallblader and minor hepatic steatosis.
Avatar f tn I have a friend that is sick with pancreatic cancer I don't know what kind he has. I don't know if it's exocrine or endocrine but what I would like to know is what is the survival rate for individuals with this type of cancer. However age, race, gender all of that play a part.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with gastritis. I just had a colonoscopy done last week. Found 1 polyp and removed it. i haven't received the results yet. The pain in my back still persists, although it hasn't been as bad the last few days. Unlike some people's posts I have read, my pain isn't made worse by laying down. It hurts in the area where my bra strap goes and at times I can hardly stand for my strap to be touching my back.
Avatar n tn Hi. Response to imatinib (gleevec) can be dramatic just like what you experienced. Myelosuppression with neutropenia (decrease in neutrophils) and thrombocytopenia (decrease in platelet count) can be a side effect of treatment. Usually, discontinuation of drug intake is advised until the blood counts increase. You should have your white blood cell count repeated after 1-2 weeks and see if it already improves. You should report to your doctor if you experience any symptoms like fever.
Avatar m tn H Pylori thrives in low stomach acid and lowers stomach acid further. Low levels of stomach acid (stomach acid stimulates the pancreas to release enzymes to help with digestion just to add) can also cause malabsorption and floating stools. There are many possible symptoms from not enough stomach acid. My mother takes betaine HCL with pepsin supplements to increase stomach acid and digestive enzyme supplements to help with digestion. I'll send you a few article with more info.
Avatar m tn with all of these tests wouldnt they have seen if something serious was causing my symptoms? I worry about pancreatic cancer , but if cancer was causing symptoms wouldnt one of these many test have seen it? Is the ct scan reliable for ruleing out pancreatic cancer I feel like I've exhaysted all my options and dont know what else to do.
Avatar f tn We are grasping for awnsers anywhere we can. We did receive a phone call from a friend that suggested pancreatic cancer. Please, if you have any suggestions in what sort of direction to go in I would appreciate it.
Avatar n tn Went to emergency room and had CT of ABD/Pelvis with contrast. Normal. I am terrified I have Pancreatic Cancer. Is this possible I am 53 year old female. Told by 1 MD I have psoriatic arthritis I think I have Fibromyalgia.
5525494 tn?1369235489 I am also having upper and lower back pain. I have an ultrasound scheduled for next week. I had liver blood test done and all things were normal. My questions are: If it was pancreatic cancer, would there abnormal liver enzymes? If back pain was from pancreatic cancer, would there also be other symptoms like jaundice, weight loss, nausea/vomiting or can back pain alone be cause for concern?
Avatar n tn Also had a spot come up on my ankle that looked like blood pooled under skin after umerious trips to the ER thinking I had blood clots they said maybe superficial blood clot. I read that that can go along with pancreatic cancer. had abdominal ultrasound a year ago that was fine. blood work has been fine. any ideas?
Avatar n tn can you get pancreatic cancer from breast cancer. My friend of 40 years first had her breast removed at one year later she was found to have pancreatic cancer, no operation because it had mets to the liver. Since them she has managed to hang on. It is now her 4th year and thngs keep happening.
Avatar n tn Hi I went to the doctor 3 days ago because my testicle hurt he examined it and said it was normal and didn't feel any cancer. But I was worried that it had spread and read about pancreatic cancer and I am freaking out scared. I know you don't survive if you get it and its really hard to detect it untill its too late. I am 30 my last blood test f was 6 too 7 months ago for a cbc and urine test and the other blood test that checks Cholesterol and Triglycerides my sugar levels I think.
Avatar n tn Am on Gleevec 400mg, now having problems with blisters on the palm. What can I do about it?
Avatar m tn While, it is good to avoid CT scans etc, the ones you have had may have increased the risk for cancer. But a direct correlation is difficult to make. Also, just because you have repeated scans, it does not mean you will get cancer. Your symptoms can be due to several factors. Chronic diarrhea can be due to parasitic infestations. Other causes are irritable bowel syndrome, celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, malabsorption syndromes, pancreatic diseases, diabetes, hyperthyroidism etc.
Avatar m tn Participants were classified according to a history of gallstones or cholecystectomy. However, adjustment for other pancreatic cancer risk factors attenuated the association. So, Gallstones or cholecystectomy do not appear to be significant risk factors for pancreatic cancer. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
