Common Questions and Answers about Gleevec gastric cancer

gleevec

Avatar f tn 00779/full The last thing anybody would want is to stop the Gleevec, which is a wonder drug of anti-cancer treatment. So we must think of "managing" the hyponatremia problem. I haven't found anything about long term use of Gleevec. But what springs to mind is that she might have started some other drug recently, which is turning mild hyponatremia to severe hyponatremia. Even ibuprofen. Has she?
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed last year and was immediatley put on gleevec 400mg/day.At my last consult my metabolic stats had risen, hence blood tests to determine if the gleevec is no longer working.I am still in firstphase and wonder what my options are if the gleevec is no longer an option.Amin pretty good form, just very tired and a lot of bone pain.
Avatar m tn Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that after taking gleevec for only two weeks WBC droped from 36.7 to 7? All other blood counts are also came back to normal range. Could doctor make mistake in diagnosis of CML? Maybe I should get seg second opinion?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
Avatar n tn After two weeks on 400mlg gleevec my WBC droped from 36.5 to 7.1. My doctor told to come for additional test in two weeks. Now my WBC is 1.3 and absolute neutrophils count is 0.04. I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.
Avatar n tn Am on Gleevec 400mg, now having problems with blisters on the palm. What can I do about it?
Avatar m tn I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.
Avatar m tn People with chronic hepatitis B had gastric cancer rates that were about 49% higher than the control group. There were higher rates of gastric cancer even in patients with no family history of stomach cancer. Even patients with resolved hepatitis B infections (who were negative for the hepatitis B surface antigen–HBsAg-negative)–remained at higher risk of gastric cancer than the control group.
225036 tn?1294509400 Oz yesterday and they had a doctor/researcher on there who has come up with a pill (I think it was a pill) for cancer that only kills the cancer cells, not all the good cells and it has worked best on luekemia patients but apparently on 16 other cancers. They didn't say which ones but I thought of you and the other ladies on here. I can't remember the name now, glee something. Just know I am thinking of you and keeping you in my heart and in my prayers.
Avatar n tn You might find he starts to be able to tolerate the pill. Gleevec is first choice for treating CML, and if he is doing good in every other way then encourage him that he is doing great. I hope this helps you. I would be glad to help you with any other questions.
Avatar f tn s gastric cancer. Three months ago I had two ct scans of the abdomen. One with just iodine contrast and another with both iodine contrast and barium swallow. Both came back fine. Would gastric cancer show up on the ct scans? Do ulcers/h.pylori made GERD/acid reflux worse after treatment?
Avatar f tn Gastric cancer and small lesions are often not visible on CT scans unless the lesion is large - the larger the cancer/primary tumor, the more likely CT can identify it. That is why endoscopy is often performed to evaluate ulcers and to look for cancers via direct visualization. Have you seen a gastroenterologist yet? Have you had an endoscopy yet?
Avatar m tn My 88 year old mother was diagnosis in December with gastric cancer. She is also in stage 5+ Alzheimer's. The cancer is about stage 2 and appears to have at least 1-2 lymphnodes involved. She had a CT which showed possible lymphnode involvement and also a 17 mm noncalcified nodule on her right lung and a 12 mm lobulated nodule on her left lung. No way to know for sure if those are cancer without an invasive biopsy.
1373488 tn?1325148631 Though it is NOT cancer, you should be monitored closely, especially given the family history of gastric cancer (your father) and it puts you at HIGH risk for developing Intestinal-Type Gastric CA. Other solutions: That is for your physician who is treating you to decide.
Avatar f tn Meaning the tumor in her ovaries is the same kind of tumor that was involved in her gastric cancer and not the type typically found in ovarian cancer? Does that make sense? Regardless, it sounds like her cancer is aggressive. It's unfortunate that the doctors are not agreeing or conferring and giving mixed messages putting you in a position of feeling like you have to choose yourself. At this time, professional guidance for the best outcome is in order!

Avatar m tn i am 18 years old i suffer from indigestion for 1 year already 24/7 i feel bloated 9 month ago i had upper GI barium test which showed Gerd, gastritis and other small inflammations i took all medicine but its still feels same I'm afraid that i might have cancer could it grow just in 1 year? p.
Avatar n tn To determine if the risk of gastric cancer is high, risk factors for gastric cancer such as family history of gastric cancer; personal history of infection of the stomach by Helicobacter pylori; presence of a polyp larger than 2 centimeters in the stomach, presence of pernicious anemia, or presence of inflammation and swelling of the stomach for a long time (chronic atrophic gastritis) must be present. If it persists, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation.

Avatar f tn I am a 56 year old female who has had gastric problems for many years. I had an endoscopy done 6 years ago and numerous polyps were found in my stomach. The surgeon biopsied some of them and they were benign. I have been on Pantaloc 40 mg. twice a day for many years and most of the time I am not too bad. In November I had an episode of epigastric pain, pain under the right ribcage, severe nausea and vomiting. In a few days the pain subsided but the nausea has remained.
Avatar f tn Vomiting blood (hematemesis) can occur due to various conditions, including gastric ulcers, gastritis, esophageal varices, and cancer. If you have this symptom, you should see a gastroenterologist for proper workup and management.
