Also, since a few patients get heart damage, I'd look into possibly using melatonin and Co-Q10 (OTC supplements) to try and prevent that. I'm not a big fan of alternative treatments for cancer, but I think that a few things do have value.
I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.
Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count.

I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.

If a person had a *very* severe long QT, they might be given intravenous calcium to counteract that. That's because Calcium is an excitatory chemical. And guess what? Gleevec can cause low levels of calcium. So maybe both drugs together resulted in your problem with the long QT.
The offshoot is that if you ever were to go back on a higher dose of Elavil, you might want to make sure you get enough calcium. But that would only be with a doc's say so, of course.
I was diagnosed last year and was immediatley put on gleevec 400mg/day.At my last consult my metabolic stats had risen,hence blood tests to determine if the gleevec is no longer working.I am still in firstphase and wonder what my options are if the gleevec is no longer an option.Amin pretty good form,just very tired and a lot of bone pain.

I got an Ekg and an Ecg both came out normal but I heard those test arent conclusive to a clogged heart?
She should see a cardiologist for the fluid in her lungs and a diuretic medication can help that condition. I had lung edema from heart failure and it is not very pleasant experience...feels like I was breathing through a cloth and not getting enough air and coughing was just as bad.
Yes, there can be a full recovery depending on the underlying cause. There is effective therapy for heart patients so don't give up.
My Patty was diagnosed with Heart Failure 10 days ago, he had been doing pretty good, not liking taking his meds but now he is NOT wanting to eat and when we make it liquid and squirt it down his throat, it has started coming back up. He has no problem drinking and peeing. He is a month over 15 years old and my precious baby. My parents are planning my funeral just in case it hurts me to even talk about it and there asking me how I want my funeral. I dont care I just dont want to die. Palpitations are like headaches. By themselves they mean nothing. In rare instances a headache could be a brain tumor. A palpitation could mean anything. Sometimes it's something serious. If it is a rare occurance it probably is nothing. If it happens a lot, it is probably something, but the overwhelming odds are that something is far, far, far less sinister a medical condition than heart failure.
I now have many of the long term complications. The one that is most difficult is heart failure, specifically diastolic heart failure. I would like to communicate with others who are dealing with this to see if they experience the same issues that I do. How do we define heart failure? Am I correct to say that it does not refer to an absolute state but more to the degree of inefficiency of the heart in performing its function? Is it true that when a person has heart failure, it doesn't mean that his/her heart is going to stop beating soon, and that death is imminent?
