neurontin

Avatar f tn Keeping your numbers in the target range is important for controlling diabetic neuropathy. Gabapentin is a choice and there are others. Anti seizure drugs have been show to be effective such as Lyrica. But also, antidepressants have worked for some. Tricyclic antidepressants which are an older class have been used and work well but do have a fair number of side effects.
Avatar m tn I have pain associated in Diabetic Neuropathy in my feet. I have started taken Gabapentin for the pain. Will Gabapentin effect my blood sugars?
Avatar n tn What is the cause of your neuropathy? Duloxetine is also a good suggestion for Diabetic neuropathy.
Avatar n tn Currently, the 2 most effective medications for peripheral neuropathy that we have available are gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica). The latter is a newer drug and is more expensive than the first. I generally tend to start with gabapentin and will switch to pregabalin if the gabapentin isn't doing the trick. The mediactions may not take away all of your symptoms, although ideally, they will dampen them considerably.
Avatar f tn Recently my condition has become worse affecting my arms and the pain is severe. I am also a diabetic and suffer with neuropathy. I see a pain management doctor and have spinal injections every 12 weeks. I was prescribed Vicoden 10/325 for pain as well as flexeril and gabapentin. Neither the flexeril or the gabapentin seem to help with muscle tightness, spasms, or nerve pain. I am seeing my doctor again in two days and I wondered if any one could tell me of medications that have worked for you.
Avatar f tn Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant which is also indicated in diabetic neuropathy. Common side effects are dizziness, ataxia, fatigue, nausea and vomiting, joint pain, motion sickness etc. You must tell your physician if you are allergic to valacyclovir or acyclovir. any kidney disease, blood disorders, immune deficiencies, dizziness etc. side effects associated are nausea, vomiting, fatigue, sore throat, hemolytic uremic syndrome etc.
Avatar f tn While Gabapentin is used as anticonvulsant, it is also indicated for shingles or postherpetic neuralgiaand also for hyperhidrosis, headaches, diabetic neuropathy, hot flashes, and fibromyalgia. Common side effects of gabapentin include dizziness, somnolence, fatigue, fluid retention, nausea and vomiting. Take as prescribed and check with your doctor if you have any side effects. Take care and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn About 3 months ago I was diagnosed with peripheral nueropathy to both feet. I am not diabetic. I was prescribed gabapentin, total of 700 mg a day. Gabapentin worked for a month or 2. Recently I have had a 5 day "flare up" in which the pins and needles and burning sensation seems to be traveling to boys of my knees. After the couple days of burning pain, heaviness and pins and needles I now have stiffness and pain in both knees and ankles/ feet and widespread muscle pain, and fatigue.
Avatar m tn if a person with diabetes 2 works out and becomes non diabetic will the neuropathy in there feet and legs go away or once you have it you will always have neuropathy. I had it minor but today was a snow storm and it got like 100 times worse before I kind of ignored it but I really need to do something about this now before it get totally bad.

280418 tn?1306325910 Hope, Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum has written several books about fatigue and about pain, and his website at endfatigue has most of the information. He has several very helpful suggestions for neuropathy in "Effective Treatment for Neuropathic (Nerve) Pain." If you do an internet search for the title of the article and his name, you'll find it easily.
Avatar n tn I have been seeing a neurologist who thinks it may be Diabetic Neuropathy, since I had Gestational diabetes and family hx. I took the 3 hour glucose test and my 3rd hour came back low. I have had 3 cardiac ablations in the past year for SVT. I am on Toprol , Cardizem, Lexapro and Gabapentin. I had an EMG on my Left leg and that was also normal. Testing for Lupus, Mitochonrial, and Sjrogrens were all normal.
Avatar n tn well I lived now I stoped drinking but have serious side effects weakness in legs arms and the dreaded neuropathy in my feet! which leaves me in constant pain and I am not diabetic. Avatar f tn Congratulations on SVR! I have neuropathy in feet. Began before treatment 4 yrs ago and worsened during. At one point so bad, I had massage therapist come to home. That helped a lot..for all muscles, not just feet. When strength returned after treatment, I used machine at YMCA to press weights with my feet, and walking helps too. I take potassium supp for cramping. Over the years, my neuropathy has improved. It has minimized from my entire foot to just the outside areas.
Avatar m tn This is ONLY in my left calf and foot, the right side seems perfectly fine I have to add that I am type 1 diabetic and have been so for more than forty years and although I do have diabetic neuropathy in my hands the numbness I now feel is much worse than before.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have Diabetic Neuropathy in my feet. I take Gabapentin that helps. I was given an advertisement for an over the counter medication called Neuragen. Has anyone heard of this or tried it? Thanks!
662972 tn?1270166301 Also used off label for diabetic neuropathy and body pain.......An MD that I respect a great deal kind of summed it up for me......he said that nuerontin was a nifty little medication looking for an affliction to cure!! Maybe ask Dad why he is taking it. I take it for chronic pain myself and frequently ask myself why I am taking it........
Avatar n tn What are suggestions for relieving non diabet neuropathy in the feet. This came in both feet immediately following double knee replacements--in fact, within three days. This was more than eight years ago. I have taken amitripyline until a few months ago when I got tired of blasting my body with anti-depressants. What is the non chemical/nutritional or other help?
Avatar m tn Diabetes may be associated with increased susceptibility to infections and reduced healing power and in a few cases may be associated with neuropathy and decreased vascularity that could lead to the formation of a diabetic ulcer. Management of a diabetic ulcer would involve adequate control of blood sugar level, prevention of further trauma/ extension and appropriate antibiotics in the situation of an infection.
Avatar f tn Lyrica was just approved for this use in diabetic neuropathy, but it is used in other forms, too. There are other meds used, but I am not an expert in them. Good luck to you relieving your misery!
1207048 tn?1282174304 There is no way to tell from what you say, but a good guess would be diabetic neuropathy. The presentation is not typical, but it is not unusual. Get yourself a diabetic evaluation and an A1hbc test.
Avatar f tn i have the same thing and i just found out in Nov that im a diabetic ..you should really go to your Dr and have some testing done ...the more u control the diabetes the more you control the neuroapthy...good luck ......
Avatar n tn It has gotten worse since then, and now the buzzing / numbness / pain is in the bottoms and tops of both feet all the time, and occasionally in my scalp, face, arms and hands. My neurologist did tests to confirm the neuropathy, send me for a Neck Cat Scan, then prescribed Gabapentin and referred me back to my GP with the idea that I probably had Diabetis. My GP has done multiple Fasting Blood Sugars and I've never gotten to 126.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Burning sensation, numbness or tingling sensation in any part of body is considered nerve related in origin. This burning sensation you are having can occur due to impingement, irritation or compression of nerve of thigh. Most frequently involved nerve is lateral cutaneous nerve of thigh (which is branch of femoral nerve). This condition is called meralgia paraesthetica which manifests itself as pain, tingling or burning sensation of outer thigh.
1218873 tn?1300091216 Most of these medications work for neuropathic MS pain in the same way the work for the pain of diabetic neuropathy. They alter the conduction thresholds of ion channels in the nervous systems. The same is true of several anti-seizure medications like Tegretol and Gabapentin.
