Avatar n tn THE RESULTS OF THE TEST INDICATED THAT HER JAW BONE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG[?] ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND THE WORK THAT NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED, SO HER DENTISTS HAD TO FIND ANOTHER WAY TO DO HER DENTAL WORK. THE DENTIST EXPLAINED THAT THE CONDITION OF HER JAW WAS THE EFFECT OF PROLONGED USE OF FOSAMAX. SHE COULD NOT THOROUGHLY EXPLAIN WHAT WAS GOING ON. CAN YOU GIVE ME A CLEAR EXPLANATION OF HER SITUATION..I AM INTERESTED AS I HAVE BEEN TAKING FOSAMAX FOR MANY YEARS.
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar n tn What did your prescribing doctor say about the side effects caused by the Fosamax and how to deal with it? I understand your feelings about how the facial pain affects your quality of life. Because it's something people can't see -- it's sometimes hard for our families/friends to understand. It took me a long while to get my husband to understand what I was dealing with, with symptomatic TN.
Avatar n tn Good morning, I saw my Dr. this morning and he would like to start taking fosamax, after reading all the side effects i'm not sure i should.
Avatar f tn A plausible brilliant solution is to take these drugs together with bone protective agents such as fosamax, though the effect of pain lowering may not be immediate. Tamoxifen treatment may increase bone mineral density and has less skeletal complications compared to the aromatase inhibitors, but it has more vascular side effects such as venous thrombosis. I suggest you discuss all of these options with your doctors to come up with a tailor fit treatment plan.
Avatar m tn The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth. The last thing the periodontist said to us was if we had to choose between the periodontal and orthodontist was to get the teeth straightened and if there was problem we could then address that problem.
Avatar f tn I take Fosamax with D once a week. Common practice among physicians is apparently 800-1000 ius of Vitamin D a day for good health. The single Fosamax pill has 5600 ius of D. Will this one pill suffice for my D intake all week and is it all right to have it all at once instead of single pills every day?
Avatar f tn I take FOSAMAX Dentist won’t pull my tooth? Why?
Avatar n tn Fosamax has brought my bone density back within normal limits, and I continue to take it to maintain. As for RA itself, I don't think Fosamax has any direct effect on the disease, though it does prevent bone degeneration that could lead to increased joint pain.
Avatar f tn While GB disease and Barrett’ s are unlikely to be related to each other, Fosamax could be responsible for Barrett’s, which would require regular endoscopic follow up. I would suggest discussing the situation and the management plan in detail with your treating gastroenterologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn While difficulty swallowing isn't listed as a side effect of Fosamax, it is possible. When you put foreign chemcals into the body its hard to predict how it will react, everybody's different. Don't stop taking it without your doctor or pharmacists direction, but do contact either of them and explain what is going on and why you think its connected. They can advise you from there.
Avatar f tn In the last few months I have developed really bad heartburn. Zantac helps for a few hours but then it starts again.
Avatar f tn My mother in law also suffers from severe bone density loss, and was also instructed to take a similar one of these medications, but since has not. She has instead decided to take a fortified calcium supplement, but I believe her doctor told her that it would not help to restore what she has already lost, only possibly help to further prevent additional loss.
Avatar f tn Dentist won’t pull my molar because I take FOSAMAX? I am 83. Says to have a root canal instead.
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn Oh wow. That's great. I'm going to see a new hematologist in two weeks and I'll discuss this with him. I'm not so sure I should be on Fosamax yet as I only have osteopenia and I'm taking calcium and vitamin D. Thanks so much for your help.
Avatar f tn I was put on fosamax about a year ago for. In Oct 2011 my teeth started falling out. I always had good teeth until then. Just had 4 pulled. The day after I had a bad infection in the top of my mouth. Its been 3 wks mouth is just now getting better. My question is. Is fosamax the reason my teeth falling out.
Avatar f tn You are right--most of the clincial trials done by the drug companies aren't long enough to show what may happen in the "real world" over a longer period of time and in a larger population. The FDA goes ahead and approves them, and then in some cases they are later withdrawn from the market (sometimes long after they have beeen banned in Europe), once severe or even fatal consequences are finally recognized....
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar m tn If you have osteoporosis, I think it is best to take the medication prescribed by your doctor. Supplements and herbal remedies are not approved by the FDA. I have not seen any studies to indicate that this is an effective alternative. While this may be beneficial, I would think the treatment plan would be the one your doctor prescribes.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, I suffered some of the side effects, fever, and severe bone pain to the point of not being able to take in a full breath. My doctor was so concerned he put me on a steroid dose pack to reduce the reaction. My body doesn't seem very tolerant of any drugs, couldn't take anything other than extra strength Tylenol for a foot surgery. I will have to figure out something else with an endocronologist?
Avatar f tn m already taking a calcium booster with Vit D - also magnesium. I intend to use the fosamax only for a couple of years at the most, as I am very suspicious of it's longer term use.
7469840 tn?1409845836 My dexa said I have osteopenia and so I started reading the osteoporosis forum over at Inspire. There was a lot of discussion about whether or not to take Fosamax. Personally, I won't but then I also have cirrhosis.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking Fosamax before the extraction (I had taken it for less than 4 years) and am not going to take the drug again. Is there concern that I will have a complication because of the Fosamax? I had hoped for a bone graft and/or socket perservation...
