Fosamax and ckd

Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax and ckd

fosamax

Avatar m tn Food and Drug Administration raised concerns about the potential for some serious side effects in women taking bone-building drugs called bisphosphonates, specifically Fosamax, Actonel and Reclast. The published findings are not new.
Avatar m tn Fosamax has been linked in long-term users to the development of low-impact femoral fractures. In the event of a fracture fosamax may interfere with remodeling and healing. However, the decision to continue or quit would need to be taken by his treating doctor; keeping in view the initial condition for which it was advised and the risks Vs benefits. You may like to discus in detail with his treating doctor. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar m tn My mom is taking Fosamax [Alendronic Acid], she is taking it exactly as directed and is still getting terriible burning in her esophagus. She is really suffering. She says there are no alternative medications she can switch to. Are there any remedys she can take to help ease the burning in her esophagus? Supplements, Vitamins, anything like that? Any help anyone can give me would be greatle appreciated, as i Said, she is really suffering Thanks in Advance!
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking Fosamax before the extraction (I had taken it for less than 4 years) and am not going to take the drug again. Is there concern that I will have a complication because of the Fosamax? I had hoped for a bone graft and/or socket perservation...
963889 tn?1359677334 I have looked it up though and the info is contradictory ie some sites say safe for CKD and others say avoid at all costs!!!! same with the durogesic (transdermal morphine patches) soem say safe to use and others say not so. Now at a loss, what is and isnt safe to use!!!
7469840 tn?1409845836 He started me on a regimen of weekly Estrogen patch, weekly Fosamax, and Citracal Plus D. It took a few years, but I am now back up to normal bone density. I would not trust just any old Family Practive doctor or PCP. You want someone who specializes in Osteoporosis and who will tailor the treatment to you. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn I know that the early hysterectomy has caused my bone issues(been on Fosamax and actually just started Reclast this week -2.7) but I wonder if it is effecting the breast? I went in for my annual mamo last week and have been called back yet again. New spot directly under the nipple, same breast. Sheduled US for next week. So two mamos and 2 call backs...I am nervous..is this common, should I be worried, is this what I have to look forward to every year...
Avatar n tn 35 years of empty sella, hi prolactin, testosterone injections, osteopenia, broken ribs and recently hip - and now at age 67 two of my children ages 33 and 36 flunk Dexa scans and are prescribed fosamax, which they refuse to take until hyperparathyroid is ruled out. I get labs showing PTHs of 63/(15-65), 51 and 45, with ionized calciums of 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4 on scale 4.5 - 5.6. Three endos and 2 GPs say it's all coincidental. Should we get treatment in Europe?
Avatar n tn Can prolonged Fosamax use damage the throat lining and if so, what is the treatment?
Avatar m tn Avoid any imaging that needs a contrast as this is potent for people with CKD - my neph told me this last week! I too have CKD now stage 4 and just had an ultrasound recently which confirmed . I do strongly suggest, if not for his kidney function but his diabetes that he should cease drinking!!! Although I also have CKD, it is not from diabetes, though it is not uncommon in diabetics , they are a high risk group.
Avatar m tn , because there were so many battles that she and I fought, and most were with both permanent and temporary fixes with no death warrants attached. The problem with CKD is that it gives you false hope during a long battle. You start feeling that you have beaten it and your 'Best Friend' has absolutely no idea how ill they truly are,....BUT, realistically, you know yourself that 'That Day' will come and you don't know when.
Avatar f tn Lifestyle modification and healthy diet can significantly lower the risk of diabetes and other chronic conditions including CKD. Hope this helps. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar n tn MY FRIEND HAD TO HAVE INVASION DENTAL WORK, BUT WHEN THE DENTIST DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS ON FOSAMAX AND HAD BEEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, HE INSISTED THAT SHE TAKE A HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED BLOOD TEST. SHE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING A LAB THAT WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE TEST AND ONE THAT PERFORMED THE TEST. THE RESULTS OF THE TEST INDICATED THAT HER JAW BONE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG[?
Avatar f tn I have been on Fosamax for almost a year . In the last few months I have developed really bad heartburn. Zantac helps for a few hours but then it starts again.
Avatar f tn http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000471.htm) If this persists, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper management. It is important to control the risk factors present and your blood pressure also. Follow-up with your doctor as well as the laboratory tests regularly (every 2-3 months) is highly recommended. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn DEXA scan showed increased bone density loss to that of a DEXA scan done before bc (ordered by gastro due to 30+ yrs of steroids). BC surgeon prescribed Fosamax and Calcichew/Vit.D3. A bone scan showed osteo arthritis in both hips, hands and feet. No meds prescribed. I am on weekly injections of 12.5 mg methotrexate for Crohn's. My GP suggested I stop the Arimidex for 3-4 weeks to see if the pain diminished, which miraculously it has.
4822967 tn?1367656696 I live in Oz too and the waiting list for my endocrinologist is around two months. You can also ask to be on the last minute cancellation list for a possible earlier appointment. There is a Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme to help with the cost of travel and accommodation if you need to travel to see an endocrinologist. I had acute kidney failure and have thyroid issues both hyper and hypo symptoms. I had severe itching and anaemia as two of my many symptoms of kidney failure.
Avatar f tn He looked at me as if I was nuts when I told him I was even on the fosamax, and recommended I stop it altogether. Having said all that, I realize many many need the med, but I guess my suggestion would be to see an Ear/Nose/Throat doctor - he may have some suggestions for you, and would be able to see if any damage is done. Best of luck to you!
Avatar n tn What did your prescribing doctor say about the side effects caused by the Fosamax and how to deal with it? I understand your feelings about how the facial pain affects your quality of life. Because it's something people can't see -- it's sometimes hard for our families/friends to understand. It took me a long while to get my husband to understand what I was dealing with, with symptomatic TN.
