Long term fosamax usage

Common Questions and Answers about Long term fosamax usage

fosamax

Avatar n tn t deal specifically with osteoporosis but as far as I know, there is no jaw bone loss associated with fosamax usage. There is some concern about possible delayed healing or risk of infection after removing teeth with patients using fosamax though.
Avatar n tn HI I believe that fosamax is a PPI which after long term use can affect vitamin and mineral absorbtion from natural means as well as suppliments. Most PPI's help heal the lining of ur esophagus ....ur Dr or pharmacist should be able to help u with this question. In addition to taking meds, u do need to adjust ur lifestyle and diet.....please see the Health Pages here on MedHelp. U will find a list of foods to avoid and foods that r safe, plus lifestyle tips.
Avatar m tn In 2011, the agency voiced concerns that taking the drugs long-term may actually make bones weaker and increase the risk of rare but serious side effects such as atypical fractures of the thigh bone, esophageal cancer and osteonecrosis of the jaw, a rare but painful condition in which the jaw bone crumbles. To investigate, the FDA reviewed data from women who had taken the drugs for six to 10 years.
Avatar f tn yes. It has been found to increase the risk for BC, which is why so many women went off their long-term HRT use a few years back, and why doctors now recommend that HRT (esp. combined HRT) be used at the lowest dose possible for the shortest time possible. (Didn't your doctor advise you to go off the hormones after the atypicla ductal cells were found?) Bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Reclast, etc.): no.
Avatar m tn darvocet is a weak narcotic with alot of tylenole in it...so liver problems are the most often side effect....4000 mgs of tylenol is the max dose per day..each darvacet has 650 mgs as a rule....r u taking them as prescribed?
Avatar m tn My question that has been difficult to find an answer to, relates to long term effects. I have not been able to find at least an approximate length of time or dosages that can lead to eventual liver cancer in the future. I am currently 26 years old, in relatively good shape physically, do not drink or have any other vices that may exacerbate the vicodin effects on my liver, but am still concerned.
Avatar m tn There's no evidence of long-term damage from their use, but no good studies, either. Theoretically, they can affect the liver, but I assume you're getting regular physicals to check that. On the other hand, you know what anxiety attacks do to your life, so stay on the Lexapro.
Avatar n tn Hi and welcome to the GERD forum. The meds u r asking about also known as protonix used for acid reflux and GERD.....will have side effects on some individuals. To know or understand what long term use could cause symptoms wise, ask ur pharmacist or dr. Since we all respond to meds differently it is very diff to say what long term use might do to u.....
Avatar f tn I'm glad that you have decided to use Fosamax for only a couple years. I'd also like to suggest the website "Save Our Bones" which endorses a more natural approach to strengthening bones instead of using bisphosphonates. (Boniva, Fosamax, Actonel etc) One of the reasons we lose mineral density in our bones is because of the highly acidic diets we consume.
Avatar m tn how long is too long? A few weeks, months, years? Thanks!
Avatar n tn Doc fears I may need 2 shots a week and does not want to do that yet as he does not know what the long term effects could be if I need it for the next 40 weeks. What are the dangers or long term effects taking Neupogen at this rate, as I am anxious to continue treatment as I am a stage 3, 53 and showed early response.
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar n tn Have a-typical trigeminal facial pain after taking fosamax. Surgeon said Fosamax caused this condition and pain.(fossy jaw) I also had to have a bone implant in my jaw.How do I get rid of this constant painful condition? I Hate taking pain meds, but I'm grateful I get some relief. Pain in jaw, ear, eye, forehead, neck, nose all the whole left side of my face and head. Throat and chest pressure /constriction dizziness are now another pressing concern.
Avatar f tn I believe there is a link between prolonged use of fosamax and oseonecrosis of the mandible. Who might I contact for positive confirmation?
Avatar m tn ve had recurrent fungal infections of the Penis for the last 3 years and they only clear after applying this antifungal cream for 2 weeks at least. Are there any long term risks of long term usage of clotrimazole+beclomethasone?
