Common Questions and Answers about Forteo osteosarcoma

forteo

Avatar f tn I have been on Forteo daily injections for 1 year and I have experienced considerable joint pains which did not exist prior to treatment. My left hip and knee, my right knee and my hands have been getting worse each month. Has anyone else experienced similar reactions?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar f tn I have severe osteoporosis and am trying to take Forteo. I started out with half dose and have worked up to a full dose. The full dose 2 days in a row was disabling. My doctor suggested every other day. So I let the previous trial work its way out of my system for 5 days and tried another full dose. This is three days after the dose and I am weaker each day. I move in slow motion. My doctor is puzzled. Anyone had a similar experience?
Avatar f tn Just was informed that I have osteoporosis. My doctor wants me to use Forteo, an injection that you use for two years.
Avatar f tn As for myself, I am a patient suffering from severe osteoporosis. My doctor, realizing I cannot afford Forteo ($950 per month!), has suggested I try to find how I can take the equivalent, generic version, which is Bonista. Please, if anyone can tell me how to get ahold of this medication, any address, emails of sellers, etc! I would be so grateful! This discussion is related to Bonista-side effects.
1742424 tn?1311105290 I know the VA states there is no connection or link to Osteosarcoma and Agent Orange, but I diagree totally! Osteosarcoma is usually a child disease instead of an adult disease. My husband is 64 years old and he was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma, which is a very rare disease for a 64 year old adult. I need a few opinions and case studies where there is a link to the disease and Agent Orange.
Avatar n tn We had a dog with osteosarcoma (bone cancer). Took him for an opinion at a veterinary teaching hospital, and he was fortunate enough to get into a research protocol. He had his leg amputated and got chemo, then was placed on an oral study drug. He lived for 3+ more years, which was phenomenal compared to the dismal survival chances he was given prior.
Avatar f tn I have since googled these blood tests and what they are used for and I found that they are used to look for inflammation and also for Osteosarcoma. I was really surprised at the similiarities between the two different conditions, one benign and the other very serious. Is there anything that distinguishes them that can be seen with the eye to give me some peace of mind until all the test results come back?
Avatar n tn The implant in his left knee was NOT removed.... and osteosarcoma formed at the site of the implant. Has anyone else experienced this terrible cancer from having this procedure? Amputation and thousands of dollars later could not save his life....such a tragic loss.
Avatar n tn Also, there is a Dr. Couto at Ohio State University that has been researching Osteosarcoma in the Greyhoind gir years, very well known and respected. You might try contacting them if not for treatment suggestions, they may possibly know someone closer to you. They are usually pretty helpful.
908504 tn?1269103899 He also wanted me to try the injections of Forteo but my Aunt had bone cancer in her hips so I am somewhat leary of that drug. Any info will be greatly appreciated as I am in really bad pain.
Avatar f tn I HOPE IT DOESNT TURN OUT YOU HAVE OSTEOSARCOMA,GOODLUCK!@KEEP US POSTED,THERE ARE 40 POSSIBLE CAUSES.NOT ALL OF THEM ARE BAD.BUT THE REALITY IS IT APPEARS SOMETHING THEN is eating away at your bones, causing a fracture.
Avatar m tn I am an 18, almost 19 year old male. A few days after Christmas, I started having pain around my right knee and my right knee swelled. I went to my GP to have it checked out and had an x ray of my right knee done. There were no tumors to be found. A few days after my doctor visit, my left knee also swelled and started hurting at rest as well, with the pain in my left knee being aggravated by walking.
Avatar f tn ( all of my pain is on my right side.
Avatar n tn At this point, the possibility of osteosarcoma cannot be discounted and I think there is an urgent need to investigate this further.
Avatar f tn Hi-- When you say Medicare, I assume it is Medicare Part D, administered by an insurance company like Blue Cross, etc? If so, you might be in for sticker shock. I had a similar experience w/ Forteo, via Part D, they wanted $5K for 3 months. I went directly to Lilly, and qualified for pro bono meds for 2 years, the limit of tx on Forteo. My understanding is patients with cirrhosis get priority. Other Gilead experienced persons, and there are a few here, can tell you more.
Avatar m tn It started when I heard of a acquaintance passing from a osteosarcoma. I immediately began to worry and attempted to brush it off. However after returning to the gym from a long hiatus I noticed the aches and pains from my few days of working out weren't going away and i refrained from going back. My aches were primarily in my calfs, shins, forearms, and triceps. But I also had pain in my biceps, thighs, hamstrings, calves, lower back, and shoulder.
Nicelady Medications themselves can be classified as antiresorptive or bone anabolic agents. Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures. The medicine is given through daily shots underneath the skin and you can give these shots even at home. Another advantage is that it can be given in patients who cannot tolerate oral biphosphonate drugs.
Avatar n tn Primary bone cancer (osteosarcoma) is usually found in the long bones of the limbs, not the ribs. It is also more prevalent in younger age groups. However, there are certain types of malignancy which can have metastatic spread to the bone. These include multiple myeloma, prostate and lung cancer. A bone scan can help differentiate if that spot is likely caused by metastatic spread or some other benign condition.
Avatar f tn It used to be believed that patients with Osteosarcome (a bone cancer) who present with fracture are less likely to be cured than those Osteosarcoma patients without fracture. Thankfully, even those with fractures are still candidates for cure. The point here is that the risk of cancer spreading is pretty much a function of the cancer itself. Consider the scenario of a patient who complains of back pain and weakness of the legs.
Avatar n tn Hi. It is possible for cancer to occur at bilateral sites of a symmetrical organ, such as the breast or the lungs. Primary bone cancer, such as osteosarcoma or Ewing's sarcoma, usually occur as solitary masses and do not usually present on both sides of the body at the same time. But bone metastases may be found in multiple areas, and can in theory, occur symmetrically.
