Forteo and osteosarcoma in humans

Common Questions and Answers about Forteo and osteosarcoma in humans

forteo

Avatar f tn I have severe osteoporosis and am trying to take Forteo. I started out with half dose and have worked up to a full dose. The full dose 2 days in a row was disabling. My doctor suggested every other day. So I let the previous trial work its way out of my system for 5 days and tried another full dose. This is three days after the dose and I am weaker each day. I move in slow motion. My doctor is puzzled. Anyone had a similar experience?
Avatar n tn I took Forteo for 10 months. and i can barely walk. i took Tymlos for the first 6 months and was fine, and then Forteo for 10 months. my strength is gone, my feet hurt wearing shoes, i have stomach pain when exercising, and ave thigh muscle cramps, neck pain, and can't sleep. I had confusion when driving, so i told my doctor i'm done with this. I know where i'm going these days, but I now use a walker around the house, elastic knee braces to walk on my own.
Avatar f tn I have been on Forteo daily injections for 1 year and I have experienced considerable joint pains which did not exist prior to treatment. My left hip and knee, my right knee and my hands have been getting worse each month. Has anyone else experienced similar reactions?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
1742424 tn?1311105290 I know the VA states there is no connection or link to Osteosarcoma and Agent Orange, but I diagree totally! Osteosarcoma is usually a child disease instead of an adult disease. My husband is 64 years old and he was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma, which is a very rare disease for a 64 year old adult. I need a few opinions and case studies where there is a link to the disease and Agent Orange.
Avatar f tn I was desperate when he got the diagnosis of osteosarcoma, and set about calling all the major universities that had vet schools within hundreds of miles. UT was just starting a long term study that proved to be my boys lifesaver. It was just dumb luck I found the program, and that he was accepted. Even without chemo, amputation alone (provided that there is no metastatic disease) can prolong your dogs life by over a year.
Avatar n tn The implant in his left knee was NOT removed.... and osteosarcoma formed at the site of the implant. Has anyone else experienced this terrible cancer from having this procedure? Amputation and thousands of dollars later could not save his life....such a tragic loss.
Avatar n tn (can someone explain it and does anyone know if amputation is recommended in this case? ) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Diagnosis: Upper tibia, side not specified, excision: -Osteoblastic osteosarcoma, high grade.see note.
Avatar f tn In Oregon doctors have no problem with lying to you and saying your insurance will not pay and so I won't give you a prescription. I often wonder why no one sues. If you have enough money to sue, then more than likely you have enough to have good insurance. It's the people on Medicaid who are lied to and they can't afford to sue.
Avatar f tn I have worked with this site for many years assisting people to get the medicines that they need. You should check and see if you qualify for the Forteo assistance program: http://www.needymeds.org/drug_list.taf?_function=name&name=Forteo Good luck! I am a breast cancer patient in a drug study taking the osteoporosis drug, Zometa. There is some promising data that suggests osteoporosis drugs may help prevent breast cancer patients having recurrances of cancer as bone cancer.
Avatar m tn I would hate to think you would have two shots against you so young in ife, first osteosarcoma and then Hodgkins; but I would seriously get another opinion - especially if they have increased in size. Have you considered calling your oncologist's medical assistant just to see what they have to say? It wouldn't hurt. Good luck to you and I would be happy to be way out there on this one. Please let us know if you find out the results. I'll put you on my watch list.
Avatar f tn An elevated level of alkaline phosphatase in the blood in combination with normal calcium, phosphate, and aminotransferase levels in an elderly patient are suggestive of Paget's disease. Osteosarcoma diagnosis usually begins with an x-ray, continues with a combination of scans (CT scan, PET scan, bone scan, MRI) and ends with a surgical biopsy. Films are suggestive, but bone biopsy is the only definitive method to determine whether a tumor is malignant or benign.
Avatar n tn Osteosarcoma is almost universally fatal, unfortunately. My heart goes out to you. I have 3 large breed dogs, and osteosarcoma is common in all of them. Best of luck.
Avatar m tn My son has been investigated very thoroughly and they cannot find anything in his lab work to account for the illness...so I thought that maybe trying to find out what makes cats terribly sick might be a better angle to approach this nightmare from. In hindsight I would have had the cat checked completely, but given this was not our cat, the cat was suffering terribly, and I did not know the consequences of the gouging we basically dropped the cat off and paid for the euthanization.
Avatar f tn Those are all general tests, and in reality, might be used to rule out almost anything, not osteosarcoma. From what you have described, this still sounds like Osgood Schlatters disease to me. As I'm sure you know, Osgood Schlatters disease is a benign irritation of the attachment site for the patella tendon. It occurs in children because that area is made of uncalcified cartilage and is a result of overuse.
Avatar f tn I had a BMD issue a couple of years ago (suffered 3 hip fractures over 2 years) and after seeing 7 different doctors my Primary Care seemed to put a ton of things together and believed I was not absorbing calcium and may estrogen levels were super low and virtually non existent. I was put on Ogestral and Forteo and knock on wood- no more injuries and a BMD increase of 22% in 1 yr. However, I started having what I thought was food allergies.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your feedback. My case has baffled most doctors. I drink alot of water, eat a healthy diet and don't smoke or drink. The only meds I take are for my bones (Forteo) as I found out that I had extreme osteoporosis in Nov. 2008. I have had my circualtion checked several times and it is reduced in my "weaker" foot. There is no blockages and I have no rare diseases.... My problem is only becoming worse and noone knows why....
Avatar n tn Also, there is a Dr. Couto at Ohio State University that has been researching Osteosarcoma in the Greyhoind gir years, very well known and respected. You might try contacting them if not for treatment suggestions, they may possibly know someone closer to you. They are usually pretty helpful.
908504 tn?1269103899 You can get it diagnosed by X-rays and mostly it is due to vitamin D deficiency in your diet or vitamin D absorption problems. You can have proper dietary changes but daily supplements of vitamin D and calcium will be required as osteomalacia treatment. For any complications follow up with an orthopedician. Take care!
Avatar m tn A few days after my doctor visit, my left knee also swelled and started hurting at rest as well, with the pain in my left knee being aggravated by walking. It's not a serious pain, but it is noticeable, and for the few weeks since my doctor's visit, mostly my left knee has been hurting, with my right knee hurting occasionally. However, only the left knee's pain seems to be aggravated by walking. However, both knees are still swollen, and the swelling hasn't gone down.
Avatar f tn I also have swollen lyhpm nodes since February and I have a swollen knee on my right side and I have lung pain and back pain. My back pain and my pain that runs down from my hip to my foot all happen a few months ago. I'm afraid if it's osteosarcoma :( all of my pain is on my right side.
Avatar n tn The results just came back yesterday of a medial mensical tear and an osteochondroma. Nothing but the one MRI in all these years and now a diagnosis. No one wants to see him or worry about it but he is in pain and has been limping more on than off for over three years now. His right knee showed unspecified edema but was otherwise clear even though both knees hurt him almost all the time. Worse when walking but even when sedate.
