Avatar f tn I have been on Forteo daily injections for 1 year and I have experienced considerable joint pains which did not exist prior to treatment. My left hip and knee, my right knee and my hands have been getting worse each month. Has anyone else experienced similar reactions?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar f tn I have severe osteoporosis and am trying to take Forteo. I started out with half dose and have worked up to a full dose. The full dose 2 days in a row was disabling. My doctor suggested every other day. So I let the previous trial work its way out of my system for 5 days and tried another full dose. This is three days after the dose and I am weaker each day. I move in slow motion. My doctor is puzzled. Anyone had a similar experience?
Avatar f tn Just was informed that I have osteoporosis. My doctor wants me to use Forteo, an injection that you use for two years.
622164 tn?1222752515 Hi, i was diagnosed with hypoparathyroidism last year after a long time with low cal, low vit d and high phophates. Initially my pth level was ok, then it began dropping last summer. Dont know why i have it. It caused me tingles and hand pain. There are meant to be 4 main causes, radiotherapy to the neck, surgery to the neck or chest, genetic or autoimmune.

Avatar m tn Had TT June 2014. Was just told have HYPOparathyroidism. Very low calcium levels. Just started taking .25 Calctriol 2xday. Plus Calcium supplement 2400mg daily. Avatar f tn As for myself, I am a patient suffering from severe osteoporosis. My doctor, realizing I cannot afford Forteo ($950 per month!), has suggested I try to find how I can take the equivalent, generic version, which is Bonista. Please, if anyone can tell me how to get ahold of this medication, any address, emails of sellers, etc! I would be so grateful! This discussion is related to Bonista-side effects.
Avatar n tn The most common cause of hypoparathyroidism is injury to the parathyroid glands during head and neck surgery. Rarely, hypoparathyroidism is a side effect of radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism. PTH secretion also may be impaired when blood levels of magnesium are low, or when blood pH is too high, a condition called metabolic alkalosis. Also Hyperparathyroisim is where the Parathyroid gland produces TOO MUCH hormone.
570700 tn?1217147175 Is this related to hypoparathyroidism? Also her cholestrol levels have stayed between 250 - 280 since the past one year ispite of being very careful with the diet.Does this also have somyhing to do with hypoparathyroidism? Sir Kindly advice the dose of calcium and calcitrol to be taken nowas the level of calcium has normalised. Also how to bring the cholestrol levels down?what to be done regarding the skin and skeletal changes.
Avatar f tn She said this suggested Hypoparathyroidism. I have seen things about hyperparathyroidism, but not much on hypoparathyroid or an underproductive parathyroid. I also have major numbness and tingling and muscle spasms. The doctor said this is because my body tissues are unable to absorb calcium. Has anyone experienced this or does anyone know what all this means? How is this problem fixed? Just trying to find some more info before my next appointment with the doctor. Thanks.
908504 tn?1269103899 He also wanted me to try the injections of Forteo but my Aunt had bone cancer in her hips so I am somewhat leary of that drug. Any info will be greatly appreciated as I am in really bad pain.
Avatar f tn Hi-- When you say Medicare, I assume it is Medicare Part D, administered by an insurance company like Blue Cross, etc? If so, you might be in for sticker shock. I had a similar experience w/ Forteo, via Part D, they wanted $5K for 3 months. I went directly to Lilly, and qualified for pro bono meds for 2 years, the limit of tx on Forteo. My understanding is patients with cirrhosis get priority. Other Gilead experienced persons, and there are a few here, can tell you more.
Avatar m tn Frequent random chills like sensation on the back can be a side effect of drugs or anxiety or in your case even wrong posture or spinal nerve compression. Hypoparathyroidism too should be looked into apart from hypothyroidism and diabetes. Neck strain, spondylotic changes in cervical vertebrae, bone disease or bad posture should be looked into. Nerve infections as in lyme’s disease too should be investigated. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining.
Nicelady Medications themselves can be classified as antiresorptive or bone anabolic agents. Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures. The medicine is given through daily shots underneath the skin and you can give these shots even at home. Another advantage is that it can be given in patients who cannot tolerate oral biphosphonate drugs.
Avatar m tn There are 2 schools of thought on management of calcium following surgically induced hypoparathyroidism. (1) increase active vit D (calcitrol) until ca levels can be managed with mostly dietary calcium or (2) take around 2000mg ca supplements and adjust calcitrol up or down to maintain levels. Anyone have any experience with the first method ???? I am getting conflicting instructions from different doctors.
Avatar n tn In older individuals, this symptom or also called paresthesia is often the result of poor circulation in the limbs such as in peripheral vascular disease, neuropathy, vitamin deficiency and malnutrition, as well as metabolic disorders like diabetes, hypothyroidism, and hypoparathyroidism. Leprosy and other skin conditions must also be ruled out. It is best that your uncle see his attending physician for proper evaluation. Direct clinical examination and diagnostic tests are important.
Avatar f tn Antipsychotic medication was not efficacious unless serum calcium and magnesium levels were both normal. It is suggested that psychiatric disturbances in hypoparathyroidism and treatment resistance to antipsychotic medication in other functional psychoses may also be related to hypomagnesemia. . . . .
