Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar f tn Just was informed that I have osteoporosis. My doctor wants me to use Forteo, an injection that you use for two years.

622164 tn?1222752515 Hi, I see you posted this quite a while ago, but if you are still on here, I would love to give you some advice. I have had this for almost 40 years, and know a lot about it, and am currently in a study based at Columbia in NYC.
Avatar f tn I have worked with this site for many years assisting people to get the medicines that they need. You should check and see if you qualify for the Forteo assistance program: http://www.needymeds.org/drug_list.taf?_function=name&name=Forteo Good luck! I am a breast cancer patient in a drug study taking the osteoporosis drug, Zometa. There is some promising data that suggests osteoporosis drugs may help prevent breast cancer patients having recurrances of cancer as bone cancer.
Avatar n tn The most common cause of hypoparathyroidism is injury to the parathyroid glands during head and neck surgery. Rarely, hypoparathyroidism is a side effect of radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism. PTH secretion also may be impaired when blood levels of magnesium are low, or when blood pH is too high, a condition called metabolic alkalosis. Also Hyperparathyroisim is where the Parathyroid gland produces TOO MUCH hormone.
Avatar m tn I recently had a medical for life insurance for a new mortgage. The insurance company have sent a letter saying that my application has been postponed!! One of the blood tests shows a Phosphate level of 2.48mmol/L, I have searched the internet and it appears to lean towards hypoparathyroidism - but I do not have any adverse symptoms. Other results all seem fine to me.
570700 tn?1217147175 Is this related to hypoparathyroidism? Also her cholestrol levels have stayed between 250 - 280 since the past one year ispite of being very careful with the diet.Does this also have somyhing to do with hypoparathyroidism? Avatar f tn You'd have to do a little further searching for this one. Maybe finding and going on site that specifically deals with Parkinson's might help. However, it is my understanding that a parathyroid problem can come about as a secondary issue to another disease - such as cancer. Perhaps Parkinson's can bring about the same thing. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn I had a BMD issue a couple of years ago (suffered 3 hip fractures over 2 years) and after seeing 7 different doctors my Primary Care seemed to put a ton of things together and believed I was not absorbing calcium and may estrogen levels were super low and virtually non existent. I was put on Ogestral and Forteo and knock on wood- no more injuries and a BMD increase of 22% in 1 yr. However, I started having what I thought was food allergies.
908504 tn?1269103899 My new doctor thinks I might have osteomalasia. Does anyone else here have that? Could you tell me alittle about it?
Avatar f tn I had a similar experience w/ Forteo, via Part D, they wanted $5K for 3 months. I went directly to Lilly, and qualified for pro bono meds for 2 years, the limit of tx on Forteo. My understanding is patients with cirrhosis get priority. Other Gilead experienced persons, and there are a few here, can tell you more. Depending upon your income, and your stage of cirrhosis, you may be able to get your meds totally pro bono, side stepping Part D completely.
Avatar n tn I was a serious alcoholic for almost 2 years. I sobered up, and I've been completely sober for about 6 months. Yet I've noticed that my hair now grows in very dry and brittle. I'm almost certain its connected to the previous alcoholism. Its been 6 months, but it still grows in this way. Is this permanent, or will it get better in time?
Avatar m tn Yes I understand what you are saying. Test for hypothyroidism and diabetes and hypoparathyroidism and also consult a neurologist.
Nicelady Medications themselves can be classified as antiresorptive or bone anabolic agents. Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures. The medicine is given through daily shots underneath the skin and you can give these shots even at home. Another advantage is that it can be given in patients who cannot tolerate oral biphosphonate drugs.
Avatar n tn In older individuals, this symptom or also called paresthesia is often the result of poor circulation in the limbs such as in peripheral vascular disease, neuropathy, vitamin deficiency and malnutrition, as well as metabolic disorders like diabetes, hypothyroidism, and hypoparathyroidism. Leprosy and other skin conditions must also be ruled out. It is best that your uncle see his attending physician for proper evaluation. Direct clinical examination and diagnostic tests are important.
Avatar m tn There are 2 schools of thought on management of calcium following surgically induced hypoparathyroidism. (1) increase active vit D (calcitrol) until ca levels can be managed with mostly dietary calcium or (2) take around 2000mg ca supplements and adjust calcitrol up or down to maintain levels. Anyone have any experience with the first method ???? I am getting conflicting instructions from different doctors.
