Avatar n tn I took Forteo for 10 months. and i can barely walk. i took Tymlos for the first 6 months and was fine, and then Forteo for 10 months. my strength is gone, my feet hurt wearing shoes, i have stomach pain when exercising, and ave thigh muscle cramps, neck pain, and can't sleep. I had confusion when driving, so i told my doctor i'm done with this. I know where i'm going these days, but I now use a walker around the house, elastic knee braces to walk on my own.
Avatar f tn I have been on Forteo daily injections for 1 year and I have experienced considerable joint pains which did not exist prior to treatment. My left hip and knee, my right knee and my hands have been getting worse each month. Has anyone else experienced similar reactions?
Avatar f tn There is a medication out now, forteo, that can treat hypoparathyroidism which is synthetic PTH and not calcium. I do think that is you go to an experienced surgeon, and if you do a total, your chances are greater that you will have less problems. Ask questions to your surgeon and also ask him about treatments.
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar f tn I have severe osteoporosis and am trying to take Forteo. I started out with half dose and have worked up to a full dose. The full dose 2 days in a row was disabling. My doctor suggested every other day. So I let the previous trial work its way out of my system for 5 days and tried another full dose. This is three days after the dose and I am weaker each day. I move in slow motion. My doctor is puzzled. Anyone had a similar experience?
Avatar m tn (average 20 year old male has Total Testosterone between 800-1500ng/dL) my doctor had few anwsers for me, as i am only the second patient he had ever diagnoised with secondary hypoparathyroidism. my doctor said there is a high posability the cause of my condition is idiopathic, and more then likely easily correctible. so i see an endocronologist in 4 weeks. but as far as the lowered total testosterone levels, could my hypoparathyroid ultimatly be related to my lowered total testosterone??
622164 tn?1222752515 Hi, i was diagnosed with hypoparathyroidism last year after a long time with low cal, low vit d and high phophates. Initially my pth level was ok, then it began dropping last summer. Dont know why i have it. It caused me tingles and hand pain. There are meant to be 4 main causes, radiotherapy to the neck, surgery to the neck or chest, genetic or autoimmune.
Avatar m tn How long does it take for HYPOparathyroidism symptoms to stop and calcium level to rise. Also terrible metallic taste in mouth for the last 6 months.
570700 tn?1217147175 No Tetanic episodes now since past 6 months however skeletal changes like mild deformity and eczema/contact dermatitis over theindex and middle finger have started. Is this related to hypoparathyroidism? Also her cholestrol levels have stayed between 250 - 280 since the past one year ispite of being very careful with the diet.Does this also have somyhing to do with hypoparathyroidism? Sir Kindly advice the dose of calcium and calcitrol to be taken nowas the level of calcium has normalised.
Avatar f tn Hi You probably know by now, but hypoparathyroidism (HP) is rare. It can occur due to low Parathyroid Hormone (PTH), inability to form active PTH and inability of kidneys to respond to PTH. Low PTH usually is a complication of damage to parathyroid gland following thyroid surgery or neck surgery or any damage to gland for any reason. Inability to form active PTH is either acquired or congenital.
Avatar f tn Other Gilead experienced persons, and there are a few here, can tell you more. Depending upon your income, and your stage of cirrhosis, you may be able to get your meds totally pro bono, side stepping Part D completely.
Avatar f tn I have worked with this site for many years assisting people to get the medicines that they need. You should check and see if you qualify for the Forteo assistance program: http://www.needymeds.org/drug_list.taf?_function=name&name=Forteo Good luck! I am a breast cancer patient in a drug study taking the osteoporosis drug, Zometa. There is some promising data that suggests osteoporosis drugs may help prevent breast cancer patients having recurrances of cancer as bone cancer.
Avatar n tn The most common cause of hypoparathyroidism is injury to the parathyroid glands during head and neck surgery. Rarely, hypoparathyroidism is a side effect of radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism. PTH secretion also may be impaired when blood levels of magnesium are low, or when blood pH is too high, a condition called metabolic alkalosis. Also Hyperparathyroisim is where the Parathyroid gland produces TOO MUCH hormone.
Avatar m tn With hypoparathyroidism, low levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) in the blood will cause low levels of calcium, low levels of vitamin D, and high levels of phosphate. Symptoms of hypoparathyroidism are related to hypocalcemia. Typically, hyperphosphatemia is asymptomatic (no symptoms).
Avatar f tn I had a BMD issue a couple of years ago (suffered 3 hip fractures over 2 years) and after seeing 7 different doctors my Primary Care seemed to put a ton of things together and believed I was not absorbing calcium and may estrogen levels were super low and virtually non existent. I was put on Ogestral and Forteo and knock on wood- no more injuries and a BMD increase of 22% in 1 yr. However, I started having what I thought was food allergies.
Avatar m tn There are many other causes of nerve disorder causing pins and needles or glove-and-stocking neuropathy or paresthesia including diabetes, hypothyroidism, chronic involvement of liver or kidney, chronic alcohol use etc. Hypoparathyroidism too should be looked into apart from hypothyroidism. Neck strain, spondylotic changes in cervical vertebrae, bone disease or bad posture should be looked into. Nerve infections as in Lyme’s disease too should be investigated.
Avatar f tn There might be nothing going on with your parathyroid gland but you could ask for serum calcium, ionized calcium and PTH test. Calcium and PTH work in a seesaw effect. If one is up the other better be down.
Avatar m tn Yes I understand what you are saying. Test for hypothyroidism and diabetes and hypoparathyroidism and also consult a neurologist.

Avatar f tn My  20 year son has severe chronic bone pain, osteoporosis and has had multiple fractures.  We have also had bone biopsy with showed a mineralization defect(focal osteomalacia) and high turn bone turnover but these do not lend themselves to a diagnosis.  His blood levels of calcium and vit D are normal.  He received a Pamidronate infusion in October 2004 and that is when the pain began.  He was completely debilitated at that time as he is now.
