Forteo is a man-made form of a hormone called parathyroid that exists naturally in the body. Forteo increases bone density and increases bone strength to help prevent fractures.
Forteo is used to treat osteoporosis in men and women who have a high risk of bone fracture.
Forteo can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid smoking cigarettes, or try to quit smoking altogether.
My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
I have severe osteoporosis and am trying to take Forteo. I started out with half dose and have worked up to a full dose. The full dose 2 days in a row was disabling. My doctor suggested every other day. So I let the previous trial work its way out of my system for 5 days and tried another full dose. This is three days after the dose and I am weaker each day. I move in slow motion. My doctor is puzzled. Anyone had a similar experience?
My 20 year son has severe chronic bone pain, osteoporosis and has had multiple fractures. We have also had bone biopsy with showed a mineralization defect(focal osteomalacia) and high turn bone turnover but these do not lend themselves to a diagnosis. His blood levels of calcium and vit D are normal. He received a Pamidronate infusion in October 2004 and that is when the pain began. He was completely debilitated at that time as he is now.
I have been on Forteo daily injections for 1 year and I have experienced considerable joint pains which did not exist prior to treatment. My left hip and knee, my right knee and my hands have been getting worse each month. Has anyone else experienced similar reactions?
Medications themselves can be classified as antiresorptive or bone anabolic agents. Teriparatide (Forteo) is also approved for the treatment of postmenopausal women who have severe osteoporosis and are considered at high risk for fractures. The medicine is given through daily shots underneath the skin and you can give these shots even at home. Another advantage is that it can be given in patients who cannot tolerate oral biphosphonate drugs.
So they sent him home and told him to try Forteo. Well, Forteo has a side effect which is increased risk of bone cancer, so he stopped it. And I put him on Strontium, which is a supplement that builds bone density.
Strontium is used in Europe and a pharmaceutical company has a patent on Strontium Ranelate, which is Strontium with an artificial substance linked to it. They can't get a patent on Strontium since it is natural.
I had a foot injury in Oct.2008 (sesnoide bone under foot/below big toe). The xray and MRI indicated fracture but the bone scan said no fracture. The injury got much better (I was able to wearing running shoes) in Mar 2009. I went on vacation, walked too much and have not recovered.
I have developped a constant swelling in my left foot. In the summer, when I take a hot shower or just when I wake up, my foot becomes red and swollen.
He scheduled a CT for confirmation. The CT confirmed the non-union. He wrote a prescription for Forteo, and the use of a bone growth stimulator, stating that if, after an additional 8 weeks there is still no sign of bone fusion, he would do a bone graft and replace the hardware.
I feel as though he is not listening to my complaints of pain, edema and the inability to sleep secondary to the pain and discomfort.
The lump thing on my jaw has me concerned, but I have no idea if its typical of bone cancer or not. Also, with all the CT scans, and with my recent normal blood count, can I rule out cancer? Ive had this uneasy anxiety about having cancer for two years, and I would think something major would have shown by now, atleast in my blood counts. The anxiety just came on one day, and it just hasnt left.

The first vet took a needle biopsy and said there were cancer cells. It could be bone or fatty cancer. She wanted to do a biopsy but after looking at x-rays she was convinced it was bone. I got a second opinion, the second vet did not want to biopsy said it was to painful we would just watch it. This was Nov. it is now March. In Dec. the second vet said it had doubled in size he was sure it was bone cancer and he had only a couple of months left.
My PA who ordered my bone DEXA scan (since I have osteopenia), had ordered it because it had been 2 yrs since my last one. I had it done on Tues. and they called me today saying that my bone density had worsened and now I'm considered advanced osteopenia 'right before osteoporosis'. They want me to come in to talk to her about further treatment, more aggressive treatment'. My husband thinks that since I just had the 3 mon.
What is the method to look for a bone metastases from breast cancer? I have had awful pain in my right arm/shoulder for 4 months. MRI showed torn biceps tendon and other small bursal tears and tendonitis, and a rotator cuff tear. Would a bone metastases have been revealed on the MRI of my arm and shoulder? Should I ask for a bone scan? I am 57 years old and have been cancer free since a stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis 8 years ago. I am worried that the pain does not go away.
In September my 20 year old boyfriend found out he had bone cancer in his knee. The sugery that was preformed involved his whole knee being removed, his tibia was also removed and connected to his femur and then a titaium rod replaced where the tibia had been. The surgery took almost 15 hours to complete and he won't be fully recovered for a year. He is know home from the hospital and getting a fairly depressed with everything that has happened.
Had a needle biopsy which had crashed be sells the suspicion was B cell Lymohatic disorder. Just had an open bone biopsy. Just had an open bone biopsy.. ruled out lymphoma but then they thought it was myelofibrosis. Results just came in and we still don't know what it is the B cells were once again crushed. Myelofibrosis was ruled out but lymphoma was not ruled out. All my blood tests are normal my pet scan came back clean of course except my tibia.
