Common Questions and Answers about Forteo and cancer

forteo

Avatar f tn I have worked with this site for many years assisting people to get the medicines that they need. You should check and see if you qualify for the Forteo assistance program: http://www.needymeds.org/drug_list.taf?_function=name&name=Forteo Good luck! I am a breast cancer patient in a drug study taking the osteoporosis drug, Zometa. There is some promising data that suggests osteoporosis drugs may help prevent breast cancer patients having recurrances of cancer as bone cancer.
Avatar n tn I took Forteo for 10 months. and i can barely walk. i took Tymlos for the first 6 months and was fine, and then Forteo for 10 months. my strength is gone, my feet hurt wearing shoes, i have stomach pain when exercising, and ave thigh muscle cramps, neck pain, and can't sleep. I had confusion when driving, so i told my doctor i'm done with this. I know where i'm going these days, but I now use a walker around the house, elastic knee braces to walk on my own.
Avatar f tn I have been on Forteo daily injections for 1 year and I have experienced considerable joint pains which did not exist prior to treatment. My left hip and knee, my right knee and my hands have been getting worse each month. Has anyone else experienced similar reactions?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar f tn I have severe osteoporosis and am trying to take Forteo. I started out with half dose and have worked up to a full dose. The full dose 2 days in a row was disabling. My doctor suggested every other day. So I let the previous trial work its way out of my system for 5 days and tried another full dose. This is three days after the dose and I am weaker each day. I move in slow motion. My doctor is puzzled. Anyone had a similar experience?
908504 tn?1269103899 He also wanted me to try the injections of Forteo but my Aunt had bone cancer in her hips so I am somewhat leary of that drug. Any info will be greatly appreciated as I am in really bad pain.
Avatar f tn Other Gilead experienced persons, and there are a few here, can tell you more. Depending upon your income, and your stage of cirrhosis, you may be able to get your meds totally pro bono, side stepping Part D completely.
Avatar f tn I had a BMD issue a couple of years ago (suffered 3 hip fractures over 2 years) and after seeing 7 different doctors my Primary Care seemed to put a ton of things together and believed I was not absorbing calcium and may estrogen levels were super low and virtually non existent. I was put on Ogestral and Forteo and knock on wood- no more injuries and a BMD increase of 22% in 1 yr. However, I started having what I thought was food allergies.
Avatar f tn My  20 year son has severe chronic bone pain, osteoporosis and has had multiple fractures.  We have also had bone biopsy with showed a mineralization defect(focal osteomalacia) and high turn bone turnover but these do not lend themselves to a diagnosis.  His blood levels of calcium and vit D are normal.  He received a Pamidronate infusion in October 2004 and that is when the pain began.  He was completely debilitated at that time as he is now.
Avatar m tn In the summer, when I take a hot shower or just when I wake up, my foot becomes red and swollen. It has evolved to the point that both my feet and hands have this condition. My injured foot is worse. I live in a cold, winter climate and my feet turn purple as well. I have lost feeling in my left foot and it is becoming scary. Meds (to increase circulation) have aggravated the problem). RSD was ruled out as I had a nerve block which aggravated the problem. I have had all blood tests.
Avatar n tn When standing after a long period of time sitting I experience symptoms beginning with pressure and pain to the center of my forehead. The pressure generates into my sinus and ears, making my ears pop as if in a plane. My vision becomes blurry and my legs feel as if they are going to collaspe from up under me. I have actually had to crawl on several occasions as my legs would not support me. This has been a consistant problem for about two months. It may occur 1-5 times a week.
Avatar f tn So they sent him home and told him to try Forteo. Well, Forteo has a side effect which is increased risk of bone cancer, so he stopped it. And I put him on Strontium, which is a supplement that builds bone density. Strontium is used in Europe and a pharmaceutical company has a patent on Strontium Ranelate, which is Strontium with an artificial substance linked to it. They can't get a patent on Strontium since it is natural.
Avatar n tn He scheduled a CT for confirmation. The CT confirmed the non-union. He wrote a prescription for Forteo, and the use of a bone growth stimulator, stating that if, after an additional 8 weeks there is still no sign of bone fusion, he would do a bone graft and replace the hardware. I feel as though he is not listening to my complaints of pain, edema and the inability to sleep secondary to the pain and discomfort.
Avatar n tn I have recently been extremely fatigued and have had multiple arthralgia's, red/raised rash on my forearms/under my arms that comes and goes, a very tender right breast with a lump that comes and goes under my arm and in my groin. I just "don't feel well", and also have noted "night sweats". I am a very busy Wife/Mother of 3 teens, work 40 + hours a week, volunteer at church, and am involved with the kids activities at school.
Avatar f tn They wanted to put her on a med called Forteo where she has to give herself an injection once per day every day for 2 yrs to grow new bone. I have read up on it and it says it caused bone cancer in mice so we have not put her on it yet. I feel she is between a rock and hard place when it comes to this and whatever she decides it may not be good either way. They never were able to tell us why she has this problem.
Avatar f tn For almost 2 years, I have been, and continue to be, treated for Fibro, Osteoarthritis, Senile Osteoporosis (daily injection of Forteo), high blood pressure and low/none vitamin D, and periods of low white cells. Was checked for the usual, RA, Lupus etc. Nothing showed up. Previous health-worked fulltime around 50 hours a week or more, constantly going and doing, did many family dinners, active runner, won divisional 5k first place and masters and weight trained. BMI is around 20.
Avatar f tn I was on a two year course of Forteo (Parathyroid hormone) and after I quit taking the Forteo, I began losing weight with a decreased appetite for a total of 45 lbs. Had also stopped taking Lexapro in reducing doses prior to all this because it seemed to stop working. I was taking it because of the mood swing side effect of the Prednisone and to help with my fibromyalgia (which is quiet, now). Even though it was weaned, I developed withdrawal symptoms of big mood swings.
980382 tn?1251481588 I have spent the last 6 years travelling up and down the country with first my mum, and then my dad, battling with cancer. I lost my mum last year, and was slowly getting my life back on track with my partner, and then . . . this! My grandfather died with emphysema (a heart attack) back in the 70's, and I can remember all too well, his faithful friend, the oxygen cylinder! It was a taboo subject then, and wasn't discussed, but I know what I'm in for.
Avatar f tn Studies have indeed show that high blood glucose may predispose to cancer and cancer cells primarily run on glucose. Views on this are diverse and while further studies may need to be done, it is still up to the patient to take this. Westernized approach of cancer has involved chemotherapy and medications while eastern medicine have been employing dietary approach in management of diseases for a long time. Discuss this with your doctors for proper management. Take care and best regards.
Avatar m tn I am afraid of the idea of having penile cancer but am only 18 and the last time I had sex was 3.5 months ago. I have have had a painless red rash around my urethra and part of the head of the penis for almost 2 months. I'm worried because STD tests came back negative so I'm wondering if it is HPV that has manifested it into a cancer?
Avatar f tn This is a forum on Ovarian Cancer, and as such, you will probably not find your answer here. You would probably have better luck if you asked your question in the Gynocology, Women's Health, or Pregnancy forums. Good luck to you.
435139 tn?1255460391 As you might already know, I had a mc in Dec. My cycles haven't regulated yet and I'm not 100% sure that I have ovulated each month (this month I didn't get a pos. opk...last month I did...my cm isn't coinciding with my fertility friend tempings that say I ov'd...etc.) SO my doctor had said to me in February that if my cycles weren't normal in a couple months that she could give me something to help me out with regularity and ov'ing...
Avatar f tn I could be mistaken - but I have looked the evidence over and talked with people here and the theory of RAI and cancer you talk about is reversed. I as an RAI patients back in 2003 was recently informed by an ENT that people that do have RAI - that develop nodules are at a higher risk on the nodule being carcimona. That is not very enlightening for me b/c they found I do have a solid nodule now. I am on Armour - no there is no blood. //// yuckie..... Graves speeds up your body.
Avatar f tn I think it would be best to google and get informed about sugar's effect upon cancer--as there are numerous and valid studies that are contrary to the doctor's response, here. my oncologist agrees that cancer indeed likes sugar and thrives on it. sugar also suppresses the immune system.. there are so many varied opinions--and each is subjective. you must go within to find the answer that is right for YOU--it's your body, your life.
