Patients with BPH can have worsening symptoms over time and as the prostate continues to grow, the relief provided by flomax may be diminish. There is another class of medications, such as Uroxatral, which can help shrink your prostate and improve your symptoms. the results of this class of medications, however, often take many weeks before they make a major differences. Ultimately, flomax and drugs like uroxatral can be combined to give maximal medical therapy for BPH.
This problem is usually treated with the use of oral analgesics(pain killers) and tamsulosin is thought to play an important role in the relief of the pain and unfortunately how tamsulosin produces a relief is also not known.

In Sept of 08 I recieved unprotected oral sex from a female in October I was having trerrible pain in my lower back and below my scrotum and left side of my penis. I went to the ER and they tested for Chlymidia and Gonorhea only, I test negative for both. After seeing my regular doctor he diagnosied me with prostatitus and I went on 5 weeks of Levaquin 500. The pain subsided but I noticed my urine flow was bad and I dripped a bit after I pee'd, I couldnt clear my bladder.
Anyway, he has me turning down the stimulator to the lowest level that still works and slowly increasing the lyrica and see if I get relief. BTW I have been on docasozin for months now (Generic equivalent to flomax) - I tried that first when they thought maybe BPH but that alone did not work. I am also going to start accupuncture today to see if that helps.

Flomax can reduce the amouht of seman that you produce. It would be unusual though to have this production reduced down to zero unless the man was ejaculating very often. In general terms Flomax is a useful medication with very few side-effects..
, where normal for him means slow urination due to long standing BHP, but not as slow, painful, and dribbling as with Flomax. We are just guessing that the way Flomax works by relaxing muscles is causing these effects. (Could the enlarged prostate end up pressing even more on muscles?? I realize these are just guesses: I have looked at a lot of medical sites, but this does not look like to be listed as a side effect!

Thanks for writing in. Prostatitis is usually not a side effect of use of flomax, indeed it can happen due to BPH, for which flomax is used as treatment. It would be better to get prostrate examination done by a urologist and take opinion for surgery for resolving these symptoms.
Choice of antibiotics depends upon the kind of organism affecting the prostrate.

He takes 5 mg blood pressure med and he takes Flomax daily. When he first started taking Flomax; which he needs to be able to urinate or as he says to keep his plumbing working, anyway, he would have dizzy spells. His doctor said this was normal, a side effect of Flomax. But now lately he has been passing out; I think that is unusual for any medication and I'm worried there may be something else going on.

I was then sent to urologist who said postatitis, gave me flomax and said to alter diet to avoid acidic drinks/foods. After 6 weeks of flomax and eating a bland diet there was still no improvement. Went to another urologist who said prostatitis, gave me flomax and new antibiotics and prescribed 600mg ibuprofen 3 x day.

Hi, My suggestion is to go the hospital. Kidney stones are not something that is easily managed even on narcotics. The longer you wait the worse it gets. How do you know he has a kidney stone?
I went to ER 10 days ago with what I thought must be my appendix exploding! 10+ pain in right lower flank area. They managed the immediate pain w/ IV which worked very quickly. After a CT scan they determined I have a 3mm stone making it's way from my right kidney to my bladder. They sent me home with a script for Norco and Flomax and told me to get a follow up appt. with my Dr., drink plenty of fluids, and strain my urine. It was a week before my Dr.
