Common Questions and Answers about Flomax and incontinence

flomax

Avatar m tn I'm suffering from Urinary Incontinence. I'm 40 year old male. I all ready have an enlarged prostate and had that for many years, but recently I've been dealing with incontinence. I pretty much drip after every time I urinate and it may last for a half hour to hour after urinating. I had a Cystoscopy and a Urodynamic and they didn't find anything wrong with the bladder. My problem seems to be getting worse. I was on medication but it doesn't seem to help.
Avatar m tn They make a series of small cuts rather than one large one, you only stay 1-2 days in hospital, only have catheter about a week, and the surgeon is better able to preserve the nerves that control ED and incontinence, redusing the risk. Maybe you should lok into a hospital/urologist that uses Robotic Assisted surgery - http://www.davinciprostatectomy.com/locator/index.
Avatar m tn Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
Avatar n tn I've taken flomax for several years, and want to undergo cataract surgery. What should I expect? This discussion is related to Cataract surgery and Flomax.
Avatar m tn I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
Avatar n tn You would need to insert a catheter into your bladder several times per day to completely empty your bladder and then remove it and go about your business. In some women I have given drugs such as Flomax (or other alpha blockers) with success, though the pharmacist will question why this drug for prostatic obstruction is being prescribed for you. Good luck. S.A.Liroff, M.D. theterization also is quite effective.
Avatar n tn Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. It indeed can have side effects like you describe. https://www.healthline.com/health/enlarged-prostate/flomax-side-effects#side-effects It's a relatively low percentage of patients, less than 4% that have these types of side effects but none the less, that could be going on for you.
1616953 tn?1443835511 Thanks for the suggestion. I spoke to my Doctor about self cath and she spoke about discomfort. She also switched the Alpha Blocker I was on. I think the new alpha blocker is about as good (or even worse) then the old one. Symptom wise its really getting serious. I've tried the Cath and Doc was right about the discomfort but it seems like it gets better. How many times a day do you do this and do you have any suggestions on what to do about it at work?
Avatar m tn I did not associate it with flomax until recently. Is it harmful if I stop taking the flomax and is this the cause of my retro? This discussion is related to Retrograde Ejaculation from Flomax......permanent or not?.
Avatar m tn I am 77 years old and have been taking Flomax for about 2 years. I have had cool thermo therapy for enlarged prostrate about 2 years ago. Unrination is really no problem anymore, but I have a problem with getting erections and now when I ejaculate I have no semon in me. Also have a runny nose mostly in the a.m. What is your advice and opinion for this problem. Thank you This discussion is related to use of Flomax.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I was given cipro and Flomax for pelvic pain and a UTI. the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? I read one forum where people where saying they had a permanent loss of strength, could not throw the discus as far?
Avatar f tn I stopped, and when the urinary issues seemed to be more problematic again, I returned to the added Flomax, and immediately discovered the same lack of semen and abdominal pain (during the 2 months not taking Flomax, ejaculatory function returned to normal). My question (after all that build up) is are any other men here on Flomax combined with Detrol LA? And, if so, has anyone had the same experiences that I previously explained?
Avatar m tn The doctor started me on Flomax, but after four days I had to stop. I was dizzy, disoriented, and my vision blurred. Even walking was difficult. My doctor says that my stone problem is due to insufficient emptying of the bladder although, to my knowledge, either from x-ray or my feeling their passage, the stones have originated in my kidneys. He is advising me to have a procedure called a TURP, which sounds pretty unpleasant.
Avatar m tn I read a question that a person was taking flomax and found he had dry ejaculation, just wanted to confirm it. I have been prescribe flomax.
Avatar m tn I would concentrate on finding the best cataract surgeon on your plan and make sure he or she has done dozens and dozens of Flomax cases and is very comortable with the management. Dr. David Chang in Los Altos, CA has written extensively on the best techniques to manage such cases.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the quick reply Dr Veena. Another question for you: should I take Flomax BEFORE taking Cipro? I've heard taking Flomax and hour or 2 before will soften the prostate and allow the antibiotic to better penetrate the prostate? Does it matter if I take them in the morning or evening, or is the rule just be consistent? Thanks again.
Avatar m tn t seem to be a great drug since it lowers blood pressure too much, I almost fainted on losartan and flomax. Is it true it permenently exhausts you and causes muscle weakness?
Avatar m tn I don't think it's a good drug, I have normal BP and it lowered my BP 10 points. does flomax cause exhaustion and permanent tiredness like one forum says?
Avatar m tn I have been using finesteride instead of flomax for the last 4 month.
Avatar f tn I am sorry your Neuro dismissed you, this must be frustrating. Does your MS Centre have an incontinence nurse there? Mine does and I have been offered to see the nurse there to help with strategies.
Avatar f tn Hi Guys, I just wondered if anyone on this forum takes tablets for bladder urgency or incontinence? And if you do, what do you take? How does it make you feel and is it effective? Or do you have any other solutions?
