Avatar f tn I understand that synthyroid must be taken at different times from my other medications. I am on 3 other medications. I take the synthyroid (complete thyroidectomy Dec 2008) and coumadin (DVT) at the same time and then 1 1/2 hrs later, I take topamax (migraine) and protonix (GERD). Is this enough time between each?
552012 tn?1272855991 The best sites to learn about Coumadin and the various types of heart valve are 1. Cardiosmart 2. American heart association 3. Mayo Clinic patient information site. The best mechanical valves are the St.Jude valve and the ATS valve. There are also other mechanical valves but the largest world wide experience is with these valves.
Avatar n tn Great site! I've bookmarked it for future reference. Thanks for the information.
Avatar n tn I am taking 75 mg of plavix and cannot find anything about the vitamin K interaction. I need additional calcium, and the brand I am looking at taking would give me 40mcg of vitamin K. Is this safe or a problem? Where can I find how much vitamin K is in a serving of broccoli or spinich?
Avatar n tn I am a cna with a client that is on Coumadin her levels are up and down.We know about the no dark green vegetables is cauliflower considered dark green? The Phlebotomist who comes to the home says she is not sure.Is there a list of foods that should be avoided? My client also has ALS.
Avatar n tn The onocolgist wants to put her on tamoxifen and we have found out that there is a concern as to the interaction with coumadin. If she goes on the tamoxifen could there be a greater risk of stroke from blood clots than from discontinuing the coumadin? Can coumadin or sotalol cause cancers of any kind? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
Avatar n tn I am a 57 year old Male with a mechanical heart valve (and on Coumadin), and a knee replacement. I have High Blood Pressure (controlled). My doctor says they will do either procedure as long as I'm off the Coumadin for a few days. I am wondering if there is any reason NOT to try the ESWL 1st. I realize I will get mildly beat up and there will be some bleeding, but it seems to be a far better alternative to scoping. I'm also not comfortable with my doctor doing the scoping....
Avatar f tn However, there is a major drug-drug interaction with warfarin (Coumadin) and Bactrim. Please follow up closely with signs and symptoms of bleed and check your INR again.
Avatar n tn You should contact your caregiver for advice regarding your medication as they would have your medical history, general health, etc. There is a noted drug interaction with Viagra and warfarin in certain patients. In patients who have pulmonary hypertension, there is an increased risk of bleeding when taking these medications together, etc.. Thanks for your question, take care.
Avatar m tn Pradaxa is taken twice a day, shorter life in the body and is cleared from the body quicker than coumadin (warfarin). With warfarin, Vitamin K is used to reverse overanticoagulation in patients, there is no antidote for Pradaxa. Warfarin a lot cheaper than Pradaxa. Good luck with your ablation. Hope you do well on Pradaxa! Best wishes!!
1570981 tn?1295831355 It says something about the interaction of these two drugs. And my english arent that good to translate the meaning of the words. " Fluvoxamine may also inhibit the elimination and increase the blood levels of theophylline (Theodur, Uniphyl), warfarin (Coumadin), alprazolam (Xanax), and triazolam (Halcion)." - from the web. what does this means? help!!!
Avatar n tn I've taken flomax for several years, and want to undergo cataract surgery. What should I expect? This discussion is related to Cataract surgery and Flomax.
Avatar n tn I was put on Warfarin (Coumadin) but was not given any warning about alcohol and at least on 2 occasions drank quite heavily (about 5 or 6 glasses of wine in one evening). I have had a series of bodily changes including increased veins on my nose face and on the palms of my hand. Upon returning to the States, I consulted with a doctor who suggested that I get off coumadin given that my clots were in superficial veins. However, two days following my getting off coumadin, (1.
Avatar m tn I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
Avatar f tn I take bupropion, celexa, trazadone, prilocex, albuteral, flomax, vitamines, b12(shots every 2 weeks), b6, iron and sometimes asprin. I have seen my reg doc and ENT lately.
Avatar n tn Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. It indeed can have side effects like you describe. https://www.healthline.com/health/enlarged-prostate/flomax-side-effects#side-effects It's a relatively low percentage of patients, less than 4% that have these types of side effects but none the less, that could be going on for you.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor. My view is NO! A pacemaker does nothing to stop AFib and the AFib is why Coumadin is being taken.
Avatar f tn Duke University Medical Center recommended the target range of 3.0 to 3.5 for the St Jude Medical leaflet valve. I have been on it since 1993. The instability has been only the last three years or so. Here's a link to a presentation that suggests vitamin K and the logic for doing so; http://www.dcpa.us/slides09/sun05.trujillo.vitk.

Avatar m tn I am 77 years old and have been taking Flomax for about 2 years. I have had cool thermo therapy for enlarged prostrate about 2 years ago. Avatar f tn would the coumadin and fish oil combined be the cause of this bleeding and can fish oil alone sustain my need to thin my blood for arrythmia? I am afraid to take the coumadin again. I've been off that and the fish oil since Oct. 17.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I was given cipro and Flomax for pelvic pain and a UTI. the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? I read one forum where people where saying they had a permanent loss of strength, could not throw the discus as far?
Avatar f tn She also takes coumadin to thin her blood, and I have read that excelon could cause bleeding. Could there be a drug interaction between these two drugs that may cause internal bleeding to occur? Thank you for your time.
