Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
I've taken flomax for several years, and want to undergo cataract surgery. What should I expect?

The urologist told me that he believed I had a narrow bladder neck, which, coupled with anxiety, was keeping me from urinating. He gave me a pill called flomax. Now that seemed to help me to urinate when I was on my own, but did nothing for my paruresis. Now just this past Monday, I noticed my symptoms suddenly got much worse.
I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications.
I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. The few risk factors of erectile dysfunction are advanced age, diabetes mellitus, smoking, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, nerve or spinal cord damage, depression and anxiety etc. The few common side effects of Flomax are abnormal ejaculation, decreased sex drive, runny or stuffy nose, or sore throat. I am 77 years old and have been taking Flomax for about 2 years. I have had cool thermo therapy for enlarged prostrate about 2 years ago.
Unrination is really no problem anymore, but I have a problem with getting erections and now when I ejaculate I have no semon in me. Also have a runny nose mostly in the a.m.
What is your advice and opinion for this problem.

I stopped, and when the urinary issues seemed to be more problematic again, I returned to the added Flomax, and immediately discovered the same lack of semen and abdominal pain (during the 2 months not taking Flomax, ejaculatory function returned to normal).
My question (after all that build up) is are any other men here on Flomax combined with Detrol LA? And, if so, has anyone had the same experiences that I previously explained?

I've heard taking Flomax and hour or 2 before will soften the prostate and allow the antibiotic to better penetrate the prostate? Does it matter if I take them in the morning or evening, or is the rule just be consistent?

Can I take effexor with Flomax and vesicare as I had anxiety disorder and use to take effexor before but stopped it about 1 year back. Now I am having a lot more anxiety due to my present condition. After stopping the Vesicar I am feeling the urge to urine all the time and i have to use to wash room every hour. Should I start 5mmg Vesicare again?
I don't think it's a good drug, I have normal BP and it lowered my BP 10 points. does flomax cause exhaustion and permanent tiredness like one forum says?
