An underactive thyroid is treated with thyroid replacement hormones such as Synthroid. Fibromyalgia has been treated with muscle relaxers such as Flexeril, antidepressants such as Cymbalta, and pain management like gabepentin (Lyrica).
I've tried both Soma and Flexeril (not at same time!) for muscle relaxers (I have fibromyalgia, lupus, severe arthritis). Really the only side effect I've experienced with the Flexeril is that it makes me VERY sleepy, but when I'm hurting and having trouble getting the rest that I need, that actually is a good thing!

i am 18 years old and since the start of 2009 have been depressed and had fibromyalgia, in the last 2 months ive noticed i have been getting pains in mostly my hands and arms but sometimes my legs. the pains come and go in short and sharp spells. the pains are stabbing pains all over my hands and occasionally on my arms, and last for about 30 minns-and hour. but then go away for an hour but come back.
After being on Aropax for some time ,I developed symptoms of Fibromyalgia. The drugs side affects did cause mild muscle akes and muscle spasims but nothing bad until I got the Fibro myalga. I ran an experiment with my Doctor and weaned off them and the Fibromyalga went over a few weeksin a decreasing fashion. I then went back on it again and the problems returned.
I have had fibromyalgia for years and know that pain well. I take Cymbalta and Flexeril for that. After a slip on the ice this past winter I have developed sciatic nerve pain from my buttocks down to my ankle. It sometimes feel like a sharp stabbing pain that is not pleasant and is beginning to affect my job, which is physically demanding. Any suggestions on what medications can help decrease this pain.
Iam a mother with 2 young children and I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 4 years ago. Since then I have been suffering with extreme pain that never lets up. I am curious if anyone else has ideas on which medicines work better for pain. I also suffer from depression and anxiety issues. I also have difficulty sleeping, I feel so alone, because neither my family or friends understand my problems. They think I do not really have medical problems. I appreciate if anyone replies!
only thing that came back abnormal was my Vitamin D which I am on 50,000 IU a week. Also on Flexeril 10MG x2 for muscular tightness spasms. When I stand my body feels as if it is struggling to stand. My legs will shake and my heart rate will be at 110-126 Beats per minute. My resting heart rate used to be 64-70. My arms also feel heavy but not as bad as my legs. My wrist sometimes hurt but I do strengthening exercises such as grip squeeze and the pain will go away.
I had been taking Flexeril for 20 years to help me sleep and it stopped helping me a year ago. GP put me on Amitriptyline 10mg a year ago after a couple weeks it started to help some but haven’t gotten much more than 4-6 hours of sleep most nights sometimes 7 hrs. GP tried upping Amitriptyline but I got weird side effects so dropped back to 10mg..GP added Melatonin 5-10mg a couple months ago helped for awhile but now I go nights with no sleep to 2or 4 hours. Anyone else’s have this issue?
I am. 62 y.o. Man. I went thru rehab for alcohol Nov/Dec 2011. I felt fine after. Since march 2012 I have experienced many symptoms including numbess, tingling, sleep change, pain throughout muscles and joints among others.I have had every blood test imaginable,, emg, MRI. Have seen pcp, , rheumatologist, neurologists. The most I have received is telling me I have some peripheral nerve damage.
Does anyone know very much about Flexeril? I just received an call from someone that thinks they may have overdosed on it. He usually does not take it and took up to ten 10mg tablets today and feels somewhat out of it. 100mg in one shot shouldn't do too much should it? He is in No. CA and I'm in So. CA so I can't get to him. Should I be concerned about him not waking up? Apparently he took six of them yesterday and I read the half life is 1-3 days.
My pain is more like a muscle pain and stiffness. Are there different degrees of fibromyalgia? Does fibromyalgia cause the feeling of swollen hands? I am very confused with my diagnosis, and don't want to take the Cymbalta just yet, until I at least start PT to see if that makes me feel any better. I appreciate any help I can get! Thank you.
My doctor just put me on medication for fibromyalgia today- It is Vicodins for pain.
Does Effexor XR and Zoloft help these since he put me on all three?
I am living on Vicadin, and flexeril. Stomach was ruined years ago by arthritis drugs and now have stomach ulcers. So I am fighting pain daily, from the time I get out of bed. I have been told it is psoriatic arthritis, and I have been told it is FIbromyalgia, depending on which quack you talk to. Any comments on care for pain would be appreciated.
Could anyone tell me if having muscle spasms are part of Fibromyalgia? I have several a month in my back. They are not painful, but just jolt me for a few minutes. There is no rhyme or reason for them they come whenever they want to. Because of these I do not drive as they take away my concentration for a few moments while I am having one. Please if anyone has any idea what these are could they please help me. I have been to every kind of Dr.
I too like Mellie have fibromyalgia and only have occasional flair ups, I have a pain management doctor who does not treat my fibromyalgia but have a rheumatologist that does.
I have been prescribed Flexeril for over a year, as a muscle relaxant for long term back and neck pain... I was told it was a 'safe' drug, and not to worry about it - it was not addicting. Now, after taking it for this long, I have re-read the patient information packet, and see that it is only for short term use, and I cannot find information on how to titrate off.
I get migraine headaches whenever I stop taking it for any length of time, as well as other symptoms...
