Flexeril and tmj

Common Questions and Answers about Flexeril and tmj

flexeril

Avatar m tn TMJ is a possible symptom of hypothyroidism.
Avatar f tn Before getting pregnant i was taking tramadol and flexeril to take the edge off if my jaw started locking up. Now my ob just has me on the lowest dose of flexeril but it seems to do nothing for it. Just 10 more weeks though i think i can make it if i've gotten this far.
Avatar f tn If so, then it is most likely TMJ, I have it as well and my left ear gets the clogged feeling A LOT and will stay for weeks at a time. It is so frustrating. One thing that helps is to sleep with a mouth guard. You can either get it from a dentist or W-M or any pharmacy should have one. TMJ is just basically arthritis in your jaw. And the main cause of it is grinding your teeth, hence the mouth guard. Other causes are chewing gum or candy.
6441382 tn?1381325896 Sorry to hear about your son. As the flexeril is not helping, speak with the doctor if he can prescribe a different relaxant medication for your son. Bruxism (grinding of teeth) does happen when someone is tense and stressed. It can happen during the day, but most of the time it can also happen at night time when the person is asleep and is unaware that they are doing it. Unfortunately, it does wear down the teeth.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the encouragement regarding getting better. It has changed recently in that I don't get the small injuries that keep setting me back. But I am weak from not doing enough and not sure how to start with chores aruond the house without hurting myself. I do dishes and cook what I can but can't lift stuff etc. I do have a bite plate for clenching and don't have TMJ.
1460652 tn?1340248730 then i was involved in a car accident and was prescribed flexeril 7 days ago. the palps started 30 mins after the first pill. i just thought it was stress from the accident and "oh great, the skips are back"...until they became debilitating, and my bp dropped to 90/50, where as it is usually 115/75.i went to the dr. AGAIN and he said to go see a cardioloist AGAIN.
Avatar m tn My big fear is epilepsy Oxy use to make me shake and bite my tongue but since i been on 200mg Lamictal it has stopped I read Flexeril may cause seizure but then I also read the opposite. Even if I am not epileptic I like to play it safe as my Doc is out, and the pharmacy worker never seems to know anything. So does Flexeril increase seizure risk or is that just for (diagnosed) epileptics? I don't want to add it to the oxy and have a attack.
Avatar f tn "Taking Control of TMJ" by Robert Uppgaard DDS (paperback- $15.00 and can be read fairly quickly) has many suggestions for treating the discomfort. Some info is obvious, but other suggestions are quite good. I've found that massaging various trigger points can greatly help reduce the pain and spasms.
Avatar f tn I been taking flexeril for years because of muscle pain due to Lupus and for the last 2 months have been being treated for severe indigestion as a side effect of the med Verapimil. I was wondering if the flexeril could relax the sphincter muscle that is involved in GERD? Please give me any ideas or info you might have regarding if the flexeril would be contraindicated due to the GERD situation? Thanks, God bless!
Avatar f tn Hi again has anyone tried Flexeril (muscle relaxant)? Any bad side effects and did it help pain , I have I guess myofascial pain. Any trouble with withdrawal gettnig off of it?
232328 tn?1207090071 I used flexeril for back pain, and to be honest it did nothing...The doctor told me it was going to make me sleepy and it did not...It is a muscle relaxent... I ws on the 10mg dose.... So then he switched me to zanaflex, and i can only take it at nite because it makes me knock out....I don't take it all the time, only when my back is hurting as i think that one can be addicting i am sure others will give you their experience on it!
Avatar f tn My back is really bothering me!! Hurts so bad and can't relax for anything!! I'm 35 weeks and really want to! Has anyone taken a muscle relaxer or even a half of one?
Avatar f tn m going again tomorrow to perhaps get off of flexeril and maybe get a monitor to take home. Has anyone had this happen to them when on Flexeril? I noticed that the skipped beats got worse with the supplements i'm on too but don't know if these should cause such an event.
Avatar f tn I've had bad lower back, tailbone, and pelvic pain. My doctor prescribed flexiril and pain meds. I take them as needed, I usually take half of a muscle relaxer though cause they make me so sleepy!
Avatar f tn It sure could be "bone on bone"! And could also be fractured. I also suffer with TMD, some call it TMJ, depends on the specialist I guess. My right side is my worse side. I have 1/2 of the bone on that side compared to the left. They've actually had cases, I'm sure many, where the bone just "snaps", my bone loss is due to osteoporosis, and know that that can happen to any bone in your body. I have had TMD since about the mid '80's...
Avatar n tn a little more info but the short answer is yes with a prescription and yes if it is available in the home and yes from friends. Do you take flexeril? Who suggested it? What does your child need it for? I ask this way because of the ongoing epidemic of Prescription drug abuse by children who get it at home or from friends who get it at home etc. And you did good asking but better to ask your doc. So fill us in and put your pills in a secure Secure place! Looking forward to hearing from you.
Avatar n tn As far as I understand it, no. The TMJ area and the nerves associated with it usually result in problems near the TMJ and the ear. It, of course, can also affect the teeth and the bite, etc. If you're concerned about your TMD and some vision problems, I suggest you go to a TMJ specialist to see if there may be something going on.
779797 tn?1263618235 A hole in a tooth does not cause TMJ but the pain and infection could exacerbate the TMJ symptoms. Fearing dentist is normal and we do see it every day but there are also a lot of dentists who do provide sedation dentistry. Visit www.top3dentist.com to find appropriate dentist.
Avatar m tn You know, this is coming from a 23 year old who has his own theory on the whole TMJ thing. It's all about posture and how strong your muscles are. If you work on stretching and bodyweight exercises (for your entire body, that will eventually translate to your neck/jaw), you can reverse the effects with due time. Just a few words of wisdom...

Avatar m tn Hi, my husband is disabled with chronic severe back/leg/hip pain from multiple failed surgeries and and one of his pain management meds is Flexeril, that Clean mentioned. He too gets wicked muscle spasms and takes the Flexeril for that. It helps him. I am an opiate addict (for effect) but do get bad lower back pain at night, probably from carrying 60 pounds on my small frame during pregnancy...and I am getting older.
Avatar f tn You are right, certain medications particularly muscle relaxants and antichlinergics, interfere with the results of EMG like baclofen and flexeril or cyclobenzaprine that you are taking. It would be prudent to apprise your neurologist of all the medications you are on, so that the EMG results are appreciated in that light. Muscle biopsy can be taken up after an EMG. Consult your neurologist for his preferences and expertise. Take care.
Avatar m tn In 1994 I had suffered a sub-arachnoid hemmorage(anueurysm) on the outer left side of my brain. I had it clipped, and the surgery involved some cutting into some muscle tissue in the jaw as well as surgical buttons to seal the bone flap they had cut open. I still have chronic pain from the surgery site(mostly the jaw and sometimes the site where it was cut open), but not like the section of the brain where it happened.
Avatar m tn Been to every doctor and everything is fine. My Vitamin D is low and I am working on that. I have TMJ and that may be the cause. I went to a TMJ dentist and he gave me muscle relaxers. I took them for a month and my muscles calmed down. He asked if the dizzy went away and I told him no. He said well I guess it's not the TMJ that is causing it. Can that be right?
Avatar n tn My daughter has had problems but only the last several months with head tightness/pressure but she has had many other symptoms like vertigo, nausea and fatigue. Also has had many tests and extensive bloodwork with all being normal. It is very frustrating as a monther, as you know, to cope with this. We were also told that her symptoms were "somatic" and she should seek counseling. Can I ask you what your experience was in seeing a psychiatrist? How did that go?
Avatar m tn I went to see my pcp and I also got blood work done. It appears my wbc was decreased. I researched the web and found that Flexeril and Benadryl, two meds I’ve been taking since I started working nights and my back pain became unbearable can cause low wbc. I’ve stopped taking both and I am starting to feel better but not back to myself yet and it’s already been 2 weeks since I stopped. I’m guessing this meds are still in my body. I plan to repeat my lab work in a few months.
