Avatar n tn -) Rice in soups or casseroles-high carb. Pasta-high carb. Potatoes-high carb. Bread-high carb. Regular soda pop and fruit juices-high carb. Sugar is interesting-you can have your sugar and eat it too. If your dr tells you to eat less sugar you need to fire right back at him and say, don't you mean carbs? Do you know of anyone who sits and eats a cup of sugar? No. But I bet we have all eaten a cup of potatoes rice or pasta or bread....
Avatar f tn what are the food that has high carb? do rice and bread contain large portion of carbs? my doctor never told me about that so I have been living that way for almost 10 years...it s not until now I discovered this "carb counting" thingy...
Avatar m tn Dr. W. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "fat and happy." Well, it's not just folklore. The same carbs that make you fat (and contribute to diabetes and other problems) also make you happy. It's simple science: Carbs allow more of the amino acid L-tryptophan to penetrate your brain. The L-tryptophan triggers your brain to make more serotonin, and the serotonin makes you feel happier. It's as simple as that!
Avatar f tn You may need to increase the veges and meats and reduce the breads further. I found I had to eat very low carb (in addition to using lots of insulin) in order to control my blood sugars when I was pregnant. Your baby doesn't know how much carb you eat, but what affects it is your blood sugar levels. Do you know how to count carbs and match the insulin to the carbs?
Avatar f tn For me nuts is the trick and 3 meals + 3 snacks a day. If I it eat a fruit, I also eat a little bit of nuts, low fat cheese, 2% yogourt or even a piece of chicken or fish. You shouldn't avoid carb but choose well. Complexe carb and high in fiber help delay hunger and feel full. Whole cereals products went choosing bread and pasta go a long way. Also take you time to eat and drink lot of water.
Avatar f tn Low carb, high protein, low sugar.
Avatar n tn Exercise can help immediately
Avatar f tn s the simple carbs, like bread, fruit, sugary and processed foods, not the complex carbs, such as those found in veggies, whole grains, etc) is what is recommended for those of us with pre-diabetes or diabetes, so eating a low carb meal, we would expect your blood glucose level to stay low.
Avatar n tn Hello, sometimes after meal my blood sugar can be up to 190 mg/dl (if I ate a lot of carb-rich meals such as bread). The test with oral intake of 75 g of glucose gave a rise up to 210 mg/dl (after 50 min), and then a fast drop to 61 mg/dl (after 135 min). Is it considered normal and what should I do with this? Is such condition known and can it develop to diabetes? My fasting sugar is always around 90 mg/dl. Thank you!
Avatar n tn I also am following a low carb diet, meaning 20 g of carbs per meal and 15 g for snacks also increasing my protein has helped. I eat about 120 g of protein a day.
Avatar n tn Around here we have shiritaki (sp) noodles, very low carb instead of spaghetti.
Avatar m tn Strongly recommend that the patient adopts a very low carb, moderate protein and high (healthy fats) diet. This will lower her insulin requirements to cover food. Despite difficulty of weight loss, this should be attempted with moderate calorie restriction (this is easier on a low carb diet, as the high fat makes it quite satisfying, and using low carb veges for their filling effect. Weight loss will help reduce insulin resistance.
Avatar f tn I am also not able to eat ANY bread or cereal because my body has a hard time processing it. I can eat 20g of carb in the form of a whole grain cereal and my blood sugar after looks as though I ate 60g of another type of carb. I've even tried high protein whole grain cereals...same thing happens. I love oatmeal and whole wheat bread...I haven't been able to eat either since I developed GDM...after baby is born, I am SO buying a box of my favorite cereal and some oatmeal!
Avatar m tn Did you get tested for SIBO? If you did, and the results were positive, the first thing you need to do is go on a low carb diet. With that said, that means no starchy veggies, no rice, pasta, bread, fast food or greasy foods or sugary drinks. You may want to check if you have low stomach acid, try betaine hcl caps with a protein meal. In the middle of the meal try 1 cap see if you noticed any discomfort, keep adding 1 more until you feel slight burning, heaviness, ect.
Avatar f tn If you are going to do low carb, you have to do it correctly. Protein us insulinogenic. If you eat low carb ultra high protein meal, your body with pump insulin into blood stream, which is then followed by drastic lowering of blood sugar (feeling tired, sluggish, etc) and then to compensate, the body generates glucose from some of the protein via a mechanism called gluconeogenesis. Kind of a bummer, if you are avoiding sugar to begin with and then your body creates it from protein.
Avatar m tn there are a few links that come up and they all basically say a low GI diet. Some low GI foods would be wholegrain brown bread, brown rice and no added sugar Alpen. They satisfy u for longer and are slow releasing so that there isn't too much insulin produced to break down the sugar. What we need to avoid is sugar rushes coz we cant handle them an put on weight.
Avatar m tn some people get a confused feeling when there BG changes a lot or drops to a new low. NOT necessarily too low (below70) but a new low for them. IE down to 90 after being up around 200 for days.
11028904 tn?1414689882 What works best is low carb, moderate protein and balance of calories from fats like olive oil, butter, avocado, coconut oil (stay away from margarine or high omega 6oils). Typical meal would look like green or non starchy veg with meat/fish/eggs and healthy fats. Stay away from starchy and sugary stuff like pasta, bread, rice, flour, etc. limit fruits to rare treat.
Avatar f tn Some carbs can raise you more than others. Ie. the sweet potato worked better for you than the rye bread. When you are eating low carb make sure you eat more fat (unprocessed is best) so that you won't feel hungry. Nuts, full fat dairy, avocado, butter, olive oil, fat that comes with the meat are all good sources. However, do avoid deep fried foods and transfats that are present in many processed foods.
