They are an amazing group of supportive people with the same problem, and they have learned through strict diet low-carb high-fat, not only can they control her diabetes that they can really lower their numbers and get their A-1 C back where it belongs. Check them out. But be prepared for some strict, honest advice. Loads of recipes and eating guidelines.
973741 tn?1342342773 This is so rich and satisfying that just 1 piece is usually enough. There are plenty of great recipes for low carb foods these days. For example, instead of having spaghetti and meat sauce, I have spiralized zucchini with meat sauce. My kids don't like zucchini, but they sure like "green spaghetti"; and sometimes we make orange spaghetti by spiralizing carrots. :) I have been eating low carb (more or less strictly) for the past 10 years.
Avatar n tn Yep! Been there, done that! I know EXACTLY what you mean. I am so excited to tell you about what worked for me. And there are no gimmicks, pills, powders, etc...just real food. It's called LCHF, and it is based on low carb, moderate protein and high fat way of eating. Best part is that no calorie counting, eat until full. Also, it canceled my cravings and I no longer snack anymore.

I'm 19 weeks and 5 days! I do snack On fruit but that's about it besides delivery pizza or fast food or panera or olive garden. Haha. Do you guys have any ideas on stuff that's good for me and baby but also tastes yummy that's easy to cook!!? I hate any type of seafood FYI! Hahaha help please!

Avatar n tn Eating a low carb diet is the best option. Eat lean protien sources like fish, chicken, beef. For essential fats eat salmon, olive oil, almonds. the only carbs should come from fruit and vegetables. Drink only water not juice.

I noticed that giving my body a chance to rest also made it respond better to occasional ingestion of carbohydrates. Rather than sticking to an internet diet, or calculating glycemic index of a potential food, I just chose to avoid anything with a high carbohydrate weight per serving. That stuff was my personal kryptonite and I just steered clear of it.

Avatar n tn Hi, the best diet / meal approach for managing both overweight and prediabetes is a low carb one. You avoid all added sugars, and restrict grains and fruits. You can eat as much non-starchy vegetables as you want. Along with reasonable amounts of protein and fats (unprocessed is best). If you want a diet approach to look up - look into Paleo or Primal-style eating. Don't be scared to eat. But select the right foods. Unprocessed foods.
