Avatar n tn The [new] results showed that the men who took just flaxseed as well as those who took flaxseed combined with a low-fat diet did the best, indicating that it is the flaxseed which is making the difference," she said. "These results demonstrate that flaxseed may well protect against prostate cancer growth," she added. "But this is just the first study. We will need to replicate these results before we can make recommendations.
Avatar n tn The Budwig diet is mainly composed of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese with restrictions on eating animal meats, butter and sugars. Some holistic health enthusiasts believe that cancer patients are deficient in essential lipids that cottage cheese mixed with flaxseed can replace. The scientific journal “Deutsche Medizinische Wochenschrift” published a study in 2012 that determined that cancer diets, such as the Budwig, diet do not cure cancer and can have adverse health effects.
Avatar f tn Depending on a patient’s particular profile, I suggest either the Dean Ornish heart-reversal diet or the South Beach Diet. If you know anything about heart disease, the Ornish diet is better because it most effectively cleanses the system of excess fat.The South Beach Diet is usually for those with risk factors but no known heart disease. This diet allows more latitude and can still get a person to the recommended targets.

Avatar f tn I added 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed to my diet for the past year. I was very discouraged when I received the results of my lipid panel results. Last year: total chol.=238, trig.=59, HDL=101, LDL=125. This year: total chol.=240, trig.=67, HDL=98, LDL=128. My bad numbers went up and my good number (HDL) went down. Why? (I am a 60 year old female. I exercise regularly (jog and ballet), I am 5'2" and weigh 92 pounds.

140029 tn?1393298142 I just left a message with my allergist asking for a food elimination diet. I 99% sure i'm soy intolerant and suspect corn but I can't find the problem holding me up...(I know there's an allergy section but this one is more active). Hopefully my allergist will respond but sometimes only $$$ motivates doctors (office visit is like $200+ and i'm unemployed with this problem) does anyone know any good elimination diets? I did one but never knew about white potatoes for example..
Avatar f tn Ooh..you are answering all of my questions today! Thanks! I think I'm going to do the baby aspirin and probably continue to do the flaxseed but maybe just less of it. My DH and I don't get to eat a lot of fish so I know my diet could use the fatty acids. I had a major surgery this past January and I was told to stop taking fish oil before the surgery because it is a blood thinner. So that's why I was wondering if the flaxseed is a thinner as well!
Avatar m tn One study found that a diet high in ALA (from sources other than flaxseed oil) was associated with a reduced risk of heart disease. However, there were so many other factors involved that it is hard to say what caused what. Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system destroys moisture-producing glands, such as tear glands and salivary glands. It can occur by itself, or in conjunction with other autoimmune diseases, such as lupus.
Avatar f tn I would listen to your cardiologist or internal medicine doctor if they are very familiar with this situation. Omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil can both sometimes increase bleeding in patients taking blood thinners like coumadin (warfarin), apirin, and plavix. In diabetics on glucose lowering drugs there is some evidence that suggest that flaxseed oil may increase fasting blood sugar levels.
Avatar m tn You really only need to drop your LDL by 20 points, which is not very much. Do a low fat diet, not empty carbs like breads, sugars and pastas. Add fruits and veggies as well. The easiest way is to cut out fast foods so if you indulge in burgers and fries, stop and that alone will bring your number down. Is there a reason why you don't want to take a statin?
Avatar f tn Also, does anyone know if taking flaxseed oil makes your oestrogen dominant? I take flaxseed oil for omega 3, 6 as I'm scared of fish oil and mercury... but I just read that flaxseed oil has plant oestrogen and has oestrogen-like action, so there is a possible link to estrogen dominance. Guess only one way to find out..will have to stop taking it and retest.
Avatar f tn just looking for alternative treatments and trying new things in diet to replace old eating habits.Any information would be helpful/I have had open heart surgery and a mitral valve replacement, stents, 2heart attacks, and coronary artery disease. im on warfarin, lipitor and plavix. im looking for other things to do to improve my heart health, like going to gym, eliminating salt intake and dietry changes and im just concerned with safety and drug interactions.

Avatar f tn Does anyone know if drizzling flaxseed oil onto salad, orange juice and other foods is OK for people with MS? I heard that flaxseed oil is supposed to help patients with MS a lot. It contains Omega 3 fatty acids.
Avatar f tn Is the "flaxseed meal" you speak of come already ground up? I have read that flaxseed does no good unless it's ground up.
Avatar n tn McDougall diet which is a whole plant based diet, with no added oil or fat. It is basically a fat free vegan diet. It takes some getting used to but eventually your tastes change. Of course that is up to you but there is proof in that atherosclerosis has been totally reversed by this diet.
Avatar f tn Certainly can. Vitamen D you need 5000 international units (iu) for a 50kgs person per day. I take as liquid drops if I'm not sitting in my underpants in the sun for 20 minutes each day. Vitamen B 6 & 12. I take a high potentency B complex tablet each day, sorry can't remember the strength. 20mls is equivilent to about 1.5 tablespoons of flaxseed oil per day, or 20 capsules of fish oil that is 1000 milligrams in strenghth.

Avatar f tn Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone here knows a special diet to help the maddening effects of perimenopause. I'm trying to avoid hormone replacement therapy and I have every symptom listed...My body was thrown into it after I finished chemotherapy for my liver...All of the things the chemo affected are now back to normal except this, and the p-meno is getting worse!
Avatar n tn Gluten-free diet is also important, and a diet free from additives, just a very wholesome healthy diet is recommended. I start feeling worse after ingesting gluten, so being gluten-free helps me a lot.
Avatar m tn After I eliminated all gluten and dairy from my diet and started using the flaxseed meal as my source of extra fiber, I no longer find the mucous in my stool. I also don't experience as much of the burning that you're talking about. That is caused by either the stool being too hard and difficult to pass or being too soft and liquidy. The hard stool will sometimes cause tiny little fissures and the liquid stool is often acidic.
Avatar m tn I have a healthy diet in my opinion. I eat tons of fresh fruits and vegetables and drink truck-loads of water. I get plenty of exercise. There is no animal products in my diet except for cage free eggs, which I have every morning. I have 4 cups of coffee daily (have been doing this for about 3 months). So for the past week, I have had fecal material that is sticking to the bottom of the toilet bowl after flushing.
Avatar f tn 1. Patients without documented coronary heart disease should eat a variety of (preferably fatty) fish at least twice a week. Include oils and foods rich in alpha-linolenic acid (flaxseed, canola and soybean oils; flaxseed and walnuts). 2. Patients with documented CHD should consume about 1 g of EPA+DHA per day, preferably from fatty fish. EPA+DHA in capsule form could be considered in consultation with the physician. 3.
