140029 tn?1393298142 I just left a message with my allergist asking for a food elimination diet. I 99% sure i'm soy intolerant and suspect corn but I can't find the problem holding me up...(I know there's an allergy section but this one is more active). Hopefully my allergist will respond but sometimes only $$$ motivates doctors (office visit is like $200+ and i'm unemployed with this problem) does anyone know any good elimination diets? I did one but never knew about white potatoes for example..
Avatar m tn You really only need to drop your LDL by 20 points, which is not very much. Do a low fat diet, not empty carbs like breads, sugars and pastas. Add fruits and veggies as well. The easiest way is to cut out fast foods so if you indulge in burgers and fries, stop and that alone will bring your number down. Is there a reason why you don't want to take a statin?
Avatar m tn Loaded with alpha-linolenic acid, an essential fatty acid that helps reduce inflammation, flaxseed has been used for centuries for medicinal and health reasons. Gandhi proclaimed, "Wherever flaxseed becomes a regular food item among the people, there will be better health." The seed itself has terrific nutritional value, very usable protein, tremendous fatty acids, and minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Additionally, they're a great source of fiber.
Avatar n tn Feed a good food without grains in it/try a good premium or holistic food. If the food does not have essential fatty acids from fish, supplement with Omega 3 and Omega 6, which may help. I would not bath that often. When you do bath, try using an Oatmeal based shampoo. Too much bathing removes essential oils from the skin. Now, all that being said, I used to show Shelties (look like small Collies).
Avatar n tn I'm a type II diabetic diagnosed this year with food allergies: corn, peanuts, soybeans, eggs and lettuce and various things in those families. That puts a great many "health" and low fat foods off my list and diabetic staples like eggs are a fond memory. I can't find any information out there to help me balance these evils (diabetes and allergies) against each other.
Avatar f tn Depending on a patient’s particular profile, I suggest either the Dean Ornish heart-reversal diet or the South Beach Diet. If you know anything about heart disease, the Ornish diet is better because it most effectively cleanses the system of excess fat.The South Beach Diet is usually for those with risk factors but no known heart disease. This diet allows more latitude and can still get a person to the recommended targets.
Avatar n tn I had my gallbladder removed ten days ago. Also had hernia repair at the same time. I was on an all liquid diet for the first 5 days. I have been on "regular food" for about 5 days now. I am very constipated. Having very small or no bowel movement. Strangely enough I have not had any pain or bloating. Could this be because I have not been eatting very much or is it a sign that something is wrong?
Avatar n tn The Budwig diet is mainly composed of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese with restrictions on eating animal meats, butter and sugars. Some holistic health enthusiasts believe that cancer patients are deficient in essential lipids that cottage cheese mixed with flaxseed can replace. The scientific journal “Deutsche Medizinische Wochenschrift” published a study in 2012 that determined that cancer diets, such as the Budwig, diet do not cure cancer and can have adverse health effects.

Avatar f tn But, your daughter may have other food sensitivities. It took me going on the basic food elimination diet to find these other foods that were issues for me. ALL the items on the basic food elimination diet ended up being problem foods for me. I feel better by avoiding those foods. My symptoms are 90% non-existent now. The other portion that is left is manageable and will often improve throughout the day, if I follow a plan that works for me.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone here knows a special diet to help the maddening effects of perimenopause. I'm trying to avoid hormone replacement therapy and I have every symptom listed...My body was thrown into it after I finished chemotherapy for my liver...All of the things the chemo affected are now back to normal except this, and the p-meno is getting worse!
Avatar n tn The [new] results showed that the men who took just flaxseed as well as those who took flaxseed combined with a low-fat diet did the best, indicating that it is the flaxseed which is making the difference," she said. "These results demonstrate that flaxseed may well protect against prostate cancer growth," she added. "But this is just the first study. We will need to replicate these results before we can make recommendations.
Avatar f tn I added 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed to my diet for the past year. I was very discouraged when I received the results of my lipid panel results. Last year: total chol.=238, trig.=59, HDL=101, LDL=125. This year: total chol.=240, trig.=67, HDL=98, LDL=128. My bad numbers went up and my good number (HDL) went down. Why? (I am a 60 year old female. I exercise regularly (jog and ballet), I am 5'2" and weigh 92 pounds.
1100598 tn?1413127426 I give our cat a little pinch of flaxseed meal on her food, since I know flaxseed oil anyway, is good for inflammation, having some good omega fatty acids. Is this latest food switch you mentioned a recent one? Could she be having a problem with the newer food, do you think?

Avatar n tn ve been giving her a pinch of flaxseed meal in her food each day, as the omega fatty acids found in flax oil i supposed to help w/inflammation. I think maybe it also helped when I vacuumed the sheep wool rug she was sleeping on in the winter & cleaned up a lot of the dust in the area where she sleeps.
Avatar f tn Get serious about food. Part of this must be to eat a plant-based diet. Depending on a patient’s particular profile, I suggest either the Dean Ornish heart-reversal diet or the South Beach Diet. 29837 tn?1414534648 Checked out from the library this book "Liver Cleansing Diet", by Dr. Sandra Cabot. I think it's worth reading as many of the things she writes about are beneficial to cleansing the liver. Makes sense to me because she's not trying to sell anything, but rather giving good, worthy advice on taking care of your liver. She writes about eating right, the specific fat free diet, supplements and so on... So there it is...
1462126 tn?1285904589 As one who has IBS-C, I can relate. Food sensitivities are like hidden food allergies. A website I found after being prompted to look into this connection to migraine issues explains it very well. It's called Tyramine Intolerance. Tyramine Intolerance can't be tested or measured, but you can figure out through an elimination diet if what you're eating is affecting the slow bowels. Are you using a fiber supplement? Not only that depending on laxatives is very dangerous.
Avatar f tn Ooh..you are answering all of my questions today! Thanks! I think I'm going to do the baby aspirin and probably continue to do the flaxseed but maybe just less of it. My DH and I don't get to eat a lot of fish so I know my diet could use the fatty acids. I had a major surgery this past January and I was told to stop taking fish oil before the surgery because it is a blood thinner. So that's why I was wondering if the flaxseed is a thinner as well!
1363709 tn?1277831077 My dog was diag. with cushings in Jan. Mar. she was put on a "RAW" diet (for 3 1/2 months), didn't do well, so switched her to kibble of same company. She ate it for 2 wks. and now won't touch it, she will eat everything else, i.e. veggies, salmon, rice, other dry kibble. I know that you are to transition them on to another food over a week or so, but if she won't eat the dry she's on, how do I switch her with out problems???
