Avatar m tn Thank you so much for responding. Yes I do take suppressive therapy, but at times I do forget to take the pills which I know is a problem. I have some hormonal issues when I have my monthly period as well, which I know contributes to the EM. I went to the doctor today and had a well woman check up and they suggested I also go to a dermatologist. They gave me a script for Valtrex, not the generic form, to see if that may make a difference. I certainly hope so.
Avatar n tn Take some over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin(loratidine). Sometimes double conventional doses of these non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine(zyrtec), Loratadine(Claritin) and Fexofenadine may be needed to get symptom relief.Apply mild corticosteroid cream like dermacort on the rash.It should help. If the symptoms still persist then pls contact your doctor as oral steroids may be needed.

They cause less drowsiness and can work just as well. These medications include fexofenadine and cetirizine. But they should always be taken under medical supervision. Moreover you may try calamine lotion on the rash.

Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine(benadryl) or Hydroxyzine are used at night to get urticaria control. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms. You may take Vitamin C along with the prescribed treatment.

Avatar f tn You can apply an anti-itch cream or lotion to the affected area. Oral antihistamine, such as Benadryl can also be used. You should take a comfortably cool bath and wear smooth-textured cotton clothing. Covering the affected area with bandages and dressings can help protect the skin and prevent scratching. You should choose mild soaps without dyes or perfumes and use a mild, unscented laundry detergent when washing clothes, towels and bedding.

These medications include fexofenadine (Allegra), and cetirizine (Zyrtec). You can also use nasal corticosteroid sprays like nasocort or flonase. Avatar m tn Benadryl is known to cause neurological symptoms that can be long lasting even after you stopped taking, theres not much research, or lack of, but i believe thats what im experiencing from stopping Benadryl, there are accounts on other forums that getting off BENadryl, can cause side effects, even after it wears off. If the Benadryl is suppressing the symptoms, please continue, if you have build to tolerance, you might want to try the safer ones.

369994 tn?1225733799 on second round of predenisone while I am still taking fexofenadine and benadryl. We are not sure what started the reaction but I am scheduled to see an allergist. As far as I know, other than itching spells... I am not aware that I am highly allergic but for some reason now I seem to be allergic to a lot of things. or atleast sensitvie to many things. We think my BP medicines started the chain reaction. any help would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn Yes I have tried both claritin and benadryl and prescribe medicines(hydroxyz hcl 50 mg & fexofenadine 180) and all I do is sleep. I see my life passing because I can not function this way. Very depressing. Condition seem to be getting worse so I called Dr. to ask what to do, never received a return call. That is the reason that I am so upset. I seem to be caught by a dr. whose does not care or does not know what to do and I have no idea of what to do.

Avatar m tn At any rate, I was prescribed Fexofenadine and some stronger topical creams. After about a month or so, the flare up seemed to go away. I continued taking the prescription for another several months and then discontinued it. I didn't have any issues again until last month and it seems the whole thing is starting over again. The itching and burning seem more severe this time and I'm going to try taking the allergy medicine again and see what happens.
