Common Questions and Answers about Fentanyl reactions

Avatar f tn You should have an ID card on you at all times explaining what and how much you are taking. If it's trauma situation, Fentanyl will work. If it's a planned surgery, the usually switch you to a fast acting opiate in advance. The important thing is to be open and honest from now on, then people know how to adjust to your situation. Be careful, no unnecessary risks, and keep working your program, you will be fine. Are you in a sub program now, they should have told you this stuff?

1364139 tn?1280791344 I use the fentanyl patch for my neck and back pain and my pain management doctor feels that it is okay for me to continue to wear the patch during surgery (he is an anesthesiologist). I talked to the pharmacist today and he said that I absolutely should take off the patch, and even should take it off a few hours before since the medicine is still in the body and releasing so I don't technically need the patch attached to my skin for the last few hours before the surgery.
1348686 tn?1310654243 ve had many endoscopies and I have no memory from most of them. Some people have some mild reactions to the sedation such as dizzyness, hallucinations, fatigue, or just "feeling strange". These might last for the rest of the day but they are almost always mild and are gone by the next day. Make sure that you have someone to drive you home after the procedure and I'm sure you'll do fine!!!
Avatar f tn The surgery was a total success! The pain I am now expeinceing is nowhere near as bad as it was, however I am on Fentanyl Patches and Dilaudid 4mg uuu(up to 8 ills a day) as needed. I was wondering if there is anthing else out there that is not quite as additive. Thank you in advance.
Avatar m tn ve been taking opiates for over 2 years and your doctor obviously sees you as opiate tolerant and capable of handling the fentanyl or he woud not have given them to you so I think you can relax about the overdose concern. As for addiction, it is a danger with ANY opiate. Althought the patch you have is on the lower end of dosage, it IS a strong opiate. Do you believe yourself to be an addict?? Or merely dependent?? Do you plan to stay on these forever?? Or are you wanting to stop??
535089 tn?1400673519 I write this because I went through a heroing experience by taking Suboxone as a replacement for the Fentanyl that I am prescribed. I thought that maybe, just maybe I could get by with this what I thought was a wonder drug treating both pain and withdrawls. Man, was I wrong. All it did was send my by ambulance to the ER with severe withdrawls. I nearly died that night. It took a team of nurses and Doctors to bring me back to me.
9129326 tn?1401849971 I'm a veteran, have been on Fentanyl patch 100ulx14 yrs.my Dr +orthopedics pa came up with regime that worked great, never asked for increase.NOW,pain Dr ,who four years ago, terminated suddenly,no detox,is doing it again.(I had to get congressman's help then)my new DR PC wanted to send me second opinion, since I'm still on patch.
Avatar f tn So I go into surgery with 4 Fentanyl patches on, and an ALLERGY band warning me NOT to use Fentanyl. I was so furious, because I had called this Dr. so many times about my reactions, not to mention my 4 week visits! So I went yesterday, and brought in my allergy band, showed him (again!) my bloody squares, and I had removed my Fentanyl patches. So nothing for pain and I am telling him, "WHY on earth am I not on what ORIGINALLY worked?" THE MONEY! He said it, just like that.
1264863 tn?1391118193 I'm a mess. I don't know if erythromycin and fentanyl can be taken together. I have been on them together since I switched two weeks ago and TODAY after my wisdom teeth were yanked the pharmasist finally figured out that they are not suppose to be taken together?? Anyone taken them together? And now when I stop the antibiotic will my patches not help me near as much?? My foot is killing me and so is my mouth. I am a mess tonight.
1176986 tn?1264917842 The reservoir patch gets its name from the fact that the fentanyl is contained in a reservoir. In Duragesic fentanyl patches and authorized generics such as the Sandoz fentanyl patch, this reservoir will be filled with a fentanyl gel." "There is no fentanyl gel in a matrix style patch. Mylan pharmaceuticals makes a matrix patch. A matrix fentanyl patch places the fentanyl in adhesive. There is therefore no gel to link.
Avatar f tn what are the reactions to eating wheat and having dairy products when having autism.
Avatar f tn Now that I'm taking Rebif I'm noticing injection site reactions. I know it will happen, but is there anything I can do or something others have done for it. Please help!!!!!!
Avatar f tn For those of you who have been on the fentanyl patch...have you had skin reactions that have made you discontinue? I have been on it for I think about 2 months now (can't remember for sure) and am starting to have reaction. I have tried other brands and the one I am on has the least reaction but that is getting worse now also. As soon as I put it on my skin is red and burning. It is even starting to swell around patch.
Avatar f tn Don't even think about stopping the buprenorphine patch cold-turkey. It's one of the more difficult medications to detox from due its very long half-life of some 36 hours. For that matter, it's never a good idea to stop any opiate cold-turkey since part of withdrawal is skyrocketing blood pressure. Not all doctors - pain management or not - are well-educated on opiate detox methods.
Avatar m tn I read about this and remember when I quit Fentanyl. Fentanyl did me so much damage, it almost killed me. I went cold turkey which is difficult but worth the result. Keeping you mind strong that you need to get control of you mind and body and not the drugs is the most important focus. You will feel much better once the drug is out of you system and you will be able to think clearer. Keep the advise mentioned here and stay on top of vitamins.
1279189 tn?1275244868 The release of fentanyl is based on temp on the patch, This is the reason, and the sole reson why we must be careful with some areas of recreaton and the hot tubs. Moreover, trust in your Doctor. seems ro me by reading your post, you are a, straight shooter and your doctor can see that. Most doc's WILL NOT JUMP FROM ER VICS, STRAIGHT TO FENTANYL. He sees a reason for the switch. I have worn the patch 6 years, and it has never ever come off in the bath or pool!
1006065 tn?1251478669 But, they are giving me some problems now by causing some reactions. I went off the Fentanyl patches and got through the worst of that. But, my pain management doctor wants me to stay on three Darvocet (a narcotic) a day and a Clonazepam (a benzo) at bedtime for sleep, which I've been on for years. The problem is everytime I take the Darvocet, it causes the creepy crawlies and jitters to start all over again.
Avatar f tn I am going to get off the Fentanyl patches and put on Methadone using Suboxone as a bridge .I have never heard of this med called Suboxone.I am on 200mcg of Fentanyl how long will it take to get off the fentanyl?
Avatar m tn If the pain is still there, obviously the Fentanyl is not working and you need to address what is actually happening. Fentanyl CAN relieve pain, depending... It also dopes up your mind and body. You have no way of knowing this until you can think clearly and the Fentanyl prevents that clear thinking. Find out what is really going on and GET OFF THE FENTANYL, THIS STUFF IS DANGEROUS!
Avatar n tn interactions between prozac and fentanyl. My husbands meds were recently doubled. Prozac now 40mg and fentanyl 50mcg. and he is now talking in his sleep every night and constantly scratching at himself in his sleep.
Avatar f tn I blindly went along with my doctor prescribing the Fentanyl patch along with other meds for BT pain. I realized the Fentanyl had a lot of negative things for me (like increase in sugar intake, nodding off when I stopped doing anything, no short term memory.) Do a search on Fentanyl here and see what people have gone through with it. Personally I think it should only be used for end of life pain. If you have reason to think you won't ever come off it, then it would be okay.
