Avatar f tn a thorough evaluation by a physician is indicated for muscle rigidity. The doctor should check reflexes, sensation and muscle tone. Diagnostic tests like CT scan, MRI, nerve conduction studies or electromyography and certain blood tests as necessary are done. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause and severity. Do keep us posted and take care.
Avatar m tn Dear, Association of stiff person syndrome, is a rare disorder characterized by muscle rigidity, spasms and continuous motor unit activity. Its association with myasthenia gravis is rare but has been documented. Both, have similar pathogenesis and disease process linked to immunogenic abnormality. 222135 tn?1236488221 Last evening and overnight, my legs were contracting horribly - the muscle that runs the length of my shin bone - this also pulls my foot and big toe upward, lasts for about 25 minutes and feels like my toe is going to fall off. Did this several times, almost like in "waves". I had the same contractions in the arches of my feet.

Avatar f tn So, if I understand what you all are saying and what i am experiencing-the fentanyl will do nothing for the nerve or muscle pain. Do you know, is it a problem or should I say contraindicated to continue to get rhizotomies, which help tremendously with the nerve pain. Yesterday, at the end of the day, I read this quote, from a newly cannonized saint, and I thought to myself, wow-that says it all, "People who suffer, have something to offer to God.

Avatar m tn How can I help someone close to me get through withdrawal from fentanyl and other pain medications. He has bravely informed us of his addictions, the most recent being 50 mcg fentanyl , one a day for 7 days. I realize that this is a pain management forum. However, sometimes it gets in the wrong hands and is abused. This is a young person who is FINALLY seeking help. He already had a "quiet history" of drug and alcohol abuse. Then he hurt his back and the doctor put him on pain meds.
Avatar f tn Fentanyl is not like other narcotics. It stores in your fat and muscle so the withdrawal takes longer. You've tried the tricks for the rls. The only thing I can think of is taking a magnesium supplement. It helped me. Good luck. You're very strong doing this ct.
Avatar f tn I have been using the fentanyl patch several years now. For me I had to increase the dosage, I think about ever three years. I am now on the 50 mg patch with meds for break through pain. I do go to a pain management doctor, and it is much better for you to talk to your doctor about the pain not being controlled. Your body becomes tolerant and increased doses are expected. I am surprised your doctor hasn't already increased the dosage after such a long time taking the same pain killer.

Avatar f tn Oh, boy, you poor thing. I can't imagine being unconscious for that long. That is truly frightening. What doctor is following you on this? Is it your primary care or a nephrologist? Do you still have to have dialysis? Have they recommended physical therapy for you to help you get walking normally? I think you have a lot of questions to ask your doctor about.
Avatar n tn Doctor continues to ask me if I would start fentanyl therapy, which I have tried and only helps for 2 days and not 3 days which the dosage is set at.I have declined the fentanyl treatment and now DR. wants me to see surgeon for my cervical stenosis. My neck is only a part of my problems.I first started pain management for leg pain which still continues. What is your opinion about fentanyl, and also surgery on neck when their are multi-level problems causing same symptoms?
Avatar f tn other symptoms similar to parkinson’s are tremors, muscle rigidity, mask facies, shuffling gait, pill rolling finger movements. There is neither cure for Fahr’s syndrome nor any standard course of treatment. There has been ongoing research on neurogenetic disorders like Fahr’s syndrome with the aim to locating and understanding the actions of genes involved in this disorder. Once these genes are known, effective ways to treat and prevent Fahr’s syndrome could be worked on. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn m on 150 mg fentanyl patch and oxy codone 30 for break thru pain. I still have pain. I get restless legg and struggle at times other time mainly during warm weather feel controllable . I've been on theses for over ten years and wish I were normal. I got hurt as a law officer.
Avatar n tn t even talk or have normal control over my body. I am wondering if cramps/muscle contraction/muscle rigidity/spams can occur in the head and cause so much pain? I take Relpax which helps when i have the most severe headache but after a short while my headache returns. I have pain that starts from the back of the head, it spreads to other areas often. Sometimes the pain starts in front of the head and in the middle or top of the head.
Avatar n tn Hi there. Sinemet or levodopa is used in the management of parkinsonism especially bradykinesia and rigidity apart from restless leg syndrome. though sinemet is the most effective medication and has least short term side effects, it is associated with high risks of long term side effects like involuntary movements or dyskinesia. Long term basis it may cause restlessness, confusion and abnormal movements. Take care.
847512 tn?1272567062 Started me on Morphine and Fentanyl patches. But now all of a sudden the last 2 days I have gotten extreme muscle spasms especially in my neck and shoulders to the point where I cant look up or turn my head I can only look down and I have tension in my legs where they feel stiff when walking. Does anyone get that? I also get the spasms in my legs but not so much as in my shoulders and neck. this is getting out of hand.
Avatar f tn My upper back, neck, and trapezius are rock hard. You can visibly see and feel the muscle, as it is just completely tensed and does not go down. It is NOT the same as tension or a muscle knot and does not go away with relaxation. It is complete rigidity of my muscles. But the worst part is if anything touches that area for any period of time - even something pretty light - it sets off excruciating shooting pains that move from my trapezius area into my face.
Avatar f tn As for the cervical fusion, I uderstand that it has provided you with relief of your hand pain and weakness but it is obviously at the expense of rigidity and lack of movement. The proper course of action would have been to correct the jaw position into the correct physioilogic position and with some therapy with a good chiro, or PT you would have had the same result without the irreversible surgery.
