Common Questions and Answers about Fentanyl patches

Avatar f tn But I think the Fentanyl may be covering the hydrocodone withdrawal. Fentanyl is very strong and the withdrawals can be long and difficult. Maybe you are one of the lucky ones but it's possible that 'it just hasn't hit you yet. I found the first few drops of the Fentanyl were easy but the lower I got the harder it became. I hope you can escape them and find a way to manage your pain.
Avatar m tn Actually, I just clicked on the link I posted up above after I posted it and there are even more than I mentioned above....includes ALL fentanyl posts evidently. Hope that helps you bunches!!
Avatar m tn Hi there, and welcome, or should I say aloha? I don't have any personal experience with fentanyl patches, but I believe they are strong and you've been on them for a long time. I believe they should probably be tapered as it seems you have been doing. As far as whether you actually need them anymore, well that is a conversation you need to have with a doctor. If you think your doctor lacks experience, is it possible that you can speak to a different one?
1345254 tn?1325918041 Fentanyl patches are 80-100 times stronger than morphine. You MUST be opioid tolerant to use the Fentanyl patches. Opioid tolerant means taking at least 60 mg of morphine daily for 2 weeks or more. It is recommended that opioids are started on the lowest dose required to effectively control the pain. As tolerance develops, naturally more opioid is required to achieve the same amount of pain relief.
Avatar f tn What are the differences in Fentanyl Patches, gel-filled versus so called non-gel filled. Also what do people think of the pain control in them.
Avatar m tn Fentanyl patches come in different strengths I think all the way to 12.5 and up. They are a stronger med but controlled release.
Avatar f tn I used fentanyl patches for a year and had an extremely high tolerance for opiates, 1 100mcg/hr has about 10 mgs of fentanyl. Fentanyl is 40 times stronger than morphine. So in essence, chewing one 50 mcg/hr patch is about 5 mgs of fentanyl which is equivelant to 200 mgs of morphine. That's like doing 2 and a half 80s at once. What they're doing is dangerous, end of story, take it from some one that knows first hand. I'm not a dr.
Avatar f tn this ***** but any one noticing that Patches work better on sides of chest other than outer body and does anyone overlap patches in same spot an anyone change daily thanks? Also it says in pamphlet that u might encounter slow urination or not being able to empty bladder completly and alway feeling like I have to urinate! Anyone else please I sleep threw the night but I get all those symptoms I've been on this med.
Avatar f tn Hello and Welcome, I have heard of the gel Fentanyl Patches leaking. It can be a life threatening event. Actually I had hoped they were going to discontinued the gel patches. Fentanyl "Patch" comes in two types of delivery systems, gel or matrix. It depends on the manufacture as to what system they use. The matrix is deemed safer as it does not leak - or "burst." If it were me and my insurance would allow I'd switch to the matrix deliver system.
Avatar n tn Skmedlin is correct in that you SHOULD get more continuous pain control thru the Fentanyl Patches than the Methadone. Your Dr. is the one that will make the decision as to what the medication equivalents are. If it isn't giving you the relief that you need then your Doctor will make the needed adjustments for you at your NEXT appointment.
Avatar m tn I had been using fentanyl patches for about a month. I would wear them on my side/hip, switching sides every 2 days when a new patch would be applied. I noticed while on the patch that my skin would kind of swell up and turn red and get very dry, usually around the edges of the patch (sandoz gel type). Well I havent worn any patches or taken any fentanyl in about 3 weeks. But I still have a red rash that is very dried out feeling compared to normal skin.
725248 tn?1316162245 I was prescribed fentanyl patches and couldnt keep them on, I would lose them or they would bunch up. alot of people have this problem,I even called the manufacturer and they suggested use deoderant on the area I was putting the patch, no help. my doctor finally had to change my meds. hope they work for you.
1481230 tn?1287973781 Anyone else hear that Sandoz quit manufacturing the 50 mcg of the Fentanyl Patches??? This is what the pharmacist at Walmart told me when I went to go get my script filled for a higher dose. I have tried Mylan and Sandoz. and I liked Sandoz a lot better. Now I am using Watson...which is weird....I can at least visually see the medicine now but it leaves marks on my skin and my pain hasn't been controlled lately even with the increase.
Avatar f tn My doctor has recommended fentanyl patches. I was wondering what others experiences are with these.... does it just take away the pain, with no euphoria? should I stay away? am i just naive to think this is a way to take away the pain and not abuse it?
Avatar m tn Just began on fentanyl patches for chronic pain. I have had radiation damage but am a cancer survivor so not bitter just tired of pain.
Avatar f tn Im on 150mcg fentanyl patches every 3 days with 120mg dihydrocodeine every day and have been for nearly 10 years because of a lower spine bodge operation. I don't know if this is high dose cause I don't understand all technical junk about fentanyl patches but I do know my body is well addicted and I get withdrawal about every 48hr because the patches don't last the 3 days there supposed to which is why I have dihydrocodeine to.
Avatar f tn i have ben on the fentanyl patch quite awhile 100mg and have gone down to 50 mg, my health ended and my last patch ends in 4 days and im scared.
Avatar f tn Who else out there has or is using Fentanyl narcotic patches? My withdrawals have been horrible. I was using them for about 18 months @ 50 mg. Changing them every three days. I stopped using them 11 days ago and switched to just Percocet and I then put myself on a three week tapering off plan. I plan to be narcotic free my September 15th!
Avatar n tn about 2 weeks ago had no oxy left snd i tried to avoid withdrawal with fentanyl patches. 2 of 100 and 1 of 50 but after the simptoms of w/d ended i took them of and put another when simptoms started and so on till this mondey when i finished all the patches i had. monday i had a hard w/d but sedate my self with xanax valium and carmabazepine i got on prescription. yesterday i felt better but i made in fentanyl iv with 10% of an old patch i used only 12 hours and today same.
Avatar f tn s the only thing you can use to cove fentanyl patches. You can write mylan about the problem and see if they will you provide you with the tegaderm for free.
Avatar f tn Have you discussed this with your doctor?
Avatar n tn I'm assuming you're talking about Fentanyl patches..such as one brand called Dura-gesic? I was on 200 mcg. I weaned myself off and I can talk to you about this, but first the reason your husband's doctor does not want him to do this should be considered. I'm also assuming that your husband suffers from a chronic condition. Could you tell us what it is? It is possible that whatever it is could be made worse with uncontrolled and unmanaged pain.
