fentanyl insert

My doctor said my fentanyl levels are too high. If anthing they should be low because sometimes I forget to change my patch as often as I should. When I started using the patch my MD said put the new patch on in PM and then the old patch off the next AM. Since I started going to a pain specialist I noticed the label said to take old patch off before putting new patch on, so I'm thinking that's the reason why I am high? Any insight, suggestions?

I have been weaning off fentanyl patches and i put my last one on today. Its exciting and scary....dont know whats ahead of me. I am still on the percs....weaning off of those also. I am down to 6 a day from abt 10 a day. I am weaning slowly reducing it half a tablet every week. Can anyone tell me if the withdrawals from fentanyl will be much worse after I stop applying the patch? I am only on 6mcg (I cut my 12.5 in half). Like I said...i have been weaning off slowly to this point....

They tell you this because you could recieve too much of the Fentanyl. It may not seem that you are getting too much but it does catch up with you. Because it takes a while for the Fentanyl to work, the added amount from the previous patch will add to the new patch in 4-6 hrs. You would not feel it right away but later in the day it could be dangerous. Read the information provided with the patches. It will tell you all you need to know.

Her GI doctor said it was Narcotic Bowl Syndrome from her Fentanyl patch of 25 mic. She had 6 trips in and out of the hospital (since Feb 09). Finally last week her CA 125 was 262 and they could not do a colonoscopy..the tube would not insert.. so did emergency surgery (June 09). The cancer caused a stricture on her Colon and she needed a Colonoscopy Bag..and there were little cancer cells EVERYWHERE..both intestines, liver, pancrease, stomach, entire abdomenal wall.

DH just started with fentanyl patch and we are having trouble keeping it on. I have been taping around the edges but it does not stay attached in the middle where the medicine is. We have tried his upper arm, upper chest, upper back. I would love any advice on how to keep these things on! I tried using a hair dryer to dry his skin and then warming up the patch with the hairdryer before sticking it on tonight. His movement just makes it separate from his skin.

I have been taking up to 12 percocets a day (sciatica) and now I've been given Fentanyl Patch (16.5 for a nominal in vivo delivery of 100 mcg/h fentanyl for 72hrs) and don't know what to expect, I'm alittle scared to put it on. I do have dilaudid 4mg tabs with directions that say 2 tabs every 4 hours (max 8 tabs) I also take Methadone 10mg twice a day ( which I was on HUGE doses, I have been able over the last 4 years to switch from 175 mcg of fentanyl to methadone. I also take Clonazepam 1 mg twice a day for anxiety. Excuse my misspelling, I am literally falling asleep while to type, I have had no sleep for 4 days because of the knee.

I am on 159 mcg. every 48 hours yet the relief rapidly subsides after 28 to 30 hours and it is not safe to put them on any closer in time. I am also on Opana 5 mg. for BT, up to 4 a day prescribed yet my doc knows I have to take them WITH the fentanyl daily which isn't right by the insert and other health professionals. Does anyone else have a similar problem? I have been on every heavy hitter there is and the Doc says that out of 1000 patients, ONLY I AM SO DIFFICULT IN PAIN CONTROL!

epsom salt baths and there are videos on youtube for stretching with 'insert your issues' try rubbing cremes, otc pain patches, motrin or naproxen, etc i live with this everyday.

The Fentanyl patch is 80 TIMES STRONGER THEN MORPHINE ! If you aren't liking the way you feel on the MS Contins, which are essentially morphine, then you won't like the Fentanyl. I went from the Ms Contins to Fentanyl a few years ago & honestly it was the BIGGEST mistake I've EVER made!!! You build up a tolerance to the Fentanyl quickly, it's 80x's stronger then morphine, 50x's stronger then heroin, & can be quite dangerous.

Does anybody have the package insert that comes with HARVONI- section 8.7 -says not proven to help cirrhosis. That is one of my denial reasons--I don't know if it says that. Trying to find out.

Anyone on here taking tirosint? Take the insert out of the box and see if you Can make sense of the dosage information. Says you can start with a dosage of 100 mcg if you are under 50 years o,d or recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. However if you are older than 50 or have cardiac problems you should start with .13 to .25. Therebis about 3 paragraphs of confusing dosage information.

I am going to get off the Fentanyl patches and put on Methadone using Suboxone as a bridge .I have never heard of this med called Suboxone.I am on 200mcg of Fentanyl how long will it take to get off the fentanyl?

If the pain is still there, obviously the Fentanyl is not working and you need to address what is actually happening. Fentanyl CAN relieve pain, depending... It also dopes up your mind and body. You have no way of knowing this until you can think clearly and the Fentanyl prevents that clear thinking. Find out what is really going on and GET OFF THE FENTANYL, THIS STUFF IS DANGEROUS!

I blindly went along with my doctor prescribing the Fentanyl patch along with other meds for BT pain. I realized the Fentanyl had a lot of negative things for me (like increase in sugar intake, nodding off when I stopped doing anything, no short term memory.) Do a search on Fentanyl here and see what people have gone through with it. Personally I think it should only be used for end of life pain. If you have reason to think you won't ever come off it, then it would be okay.

So I would just discuss with your doctor the fact that the fentanyl is no longer working. I have heard that fentanyl tends to work a lot longer than longer acting opioids in pill form before effectiveness begins to wane. The options that your doctor will most likely present to you are, an increase in fentanyl (which will require wearing a couple of patches versus just one), an increase or change in breakthrough pain medication and/or an addition of a long acting medication in pill form.

The fentanyl should manage your pain much more effectively than the methadone... well I believe it will based on my personal experiences. And I have never taken opana, so I am not sure how much it would help. Good Luck.

Just wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with switching methadone 95mg once daily, to fentanyl patch 100mcg Hour patch? or know the methadone mg fentanyl dose equivalents?

Hey buddy! Congrats on your decision to taper down. I know fentanyl can be a handful. There's several members who has tapered quite successfully At 50mcg, my doctor wanted me to switch over to Oxycotin but insurance didn't allow it, which led to going cold turkey.
