374225 tn?1269899262 There are two types of generic Fentanyl and at least one of you claims that one is superior to the other. Which one is the better of the two? My doctor is probably going to let me try the patches over the methadone and I just want to be sure. It amazes me how much knowledge we all have accumulated and outside of these boards so much of it is wasted. I'm so glad this place exists and I found it.
Avatar m tn How can I help someone close to me get through withdrawal from fentanyl and other pain medications. He has bravely informed us of his addictions, the most recent being 50 mcg fentanyl , one a day for 7 days. I realize that this is a pain management forum. However, sometimes it gets in the wrong hands and is abused. This is a young person who is FINALLY seeking help. He already had a "quiet history" of drug and alcohol abuse. Then he hurt his back and the doctor put him on pain meds.
Avatar f tn Hi gracie255, First, I want to welcome you to the PM (Pain Management) Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. We are all CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with our own expertise and experiences that we have developed through our own CP Issues. I read your Profile and I will add you to my Prayers!! Bless your heart, you are such a Brave Lady!! There's really not much of a comparison between the 2 meds.
Avatar n tn I have recently taken my self off the prescription narcotic fentanyl and percocet. I was on for over 10 years. It is going on three weeks since I have been off the medicine. Now I have excessive mucous buildup in my nasal cavity going towards my throat my mouth constantly fills up with mucous and saliva. I go throug 3 - 4 rolls of paper towels per day just to catch it. Is this part of the withdrawl. I know that narcoctics tend to bind the fluids in you body.
369629 tn?1237812958 Hi Sharonanne: Sorry to hear of the dilemma with your Fentanyl Patch. Thank goodness you're not on a really high dose. Fentanyl is one, if not the hardest opiate to come off of so you're really going to have to be prepared. Your Doctor will most likely know what's best for your system to make it as comfortable as possible. I'm guessing that he thinks you don't need CP Pain Therapy anymore?? Or is it you that doesn't need the help??
Avatar f tn I haven't been on this site since my insurance company sent me to THEIR pain management doctor, even though after 2 back surgeries, and countless procedures, epidurals, which did nothing, and countless meds, I had finally been doing relatively well with my doctor of 16 years. (I had my back surgeries in 1995, and 1996.) The new "Doctor" put me on massive doses of Fentanyl, which I had tried before without success, but that didn't matter...it's ALL about the money.
3112530 tn?1434032033 Why is there no support for getting through withdrawal of the Fentanyl patch? This patch 50mcg) has created horrible effects for me and my body. I had to go cold turkey (over 30 days now) and there is no support from the medical community to get through these withdrawals. Fear was my motivation when I realized how sick I looked, down to 108 lbs. and had problems with this medication affecting my pancreas and digestive system. How do you help someone through this?
1035252 tn?1427227833 Where is he placing the patch? Where oily skin is concerned, location is even more important. He also needs to clean the area thoroughly with alcohol and let it dry before applying the patch. I've found the Mylan patch to be less sensitive to temperature changes, but as you mentioned, each brand seems to have its own issues. There is a new pain patch on the market that contains buprenorphine and is supposed to last a week. I have no personal experience with it.
1279189 tn?1275244868 The release of fentanyl is based on temp on the patch, This is the reason, and the sole reson why we must be careful with some areas of recreaton and the hot tubs. Moreover, trust in your Doctor. seems ro me by reading your post, you are a, straight shooter and your doctor can see that. Most doc's WILL NOT JUMP FROM ER VICS, STRAIGHT TO FENTANYL. He sees a reason for the switch. I have worn the patch 6 years, and it has never ever come off in the bath or pool!
Avatar f tn I am going to get off the Fentanyl patches and put on Methadone using Suboxone as a bridge .I have never heard of this med called Suboxone.I am on 200mcg of Fentanyl how long will it take to get off the fentanyl?
Avatar m tn I think you would report the facts as they are at the time you fill out the forms. They understand that unforseen things happen sometimes. Not a huge deal.
Avatar f tn Hello Everyone, I'm so happy that this place exists, and I commend you all for your bravery and honesty. I started off taking 5 mg of Vicodin for intense back, neck, hip, ankle pain which occurred out of nowhere in March of '08. Well, Vicodin has always been my weakness, and since the pain continued for months, I worked my way up to Norco 10 mg, 5 times a day.
Avatar m tn If the pain is still there, obviously the Fentanyl is not working and you need to address what is actually happening. Fentanyl CAN relieve pain, depending... It also dopes up your mind and body. You have no way of knowing this until you can think clearly and the Fentanyl prevents that clear thinking. Find out what is really going on and GET OFF THE FENTANYL, THIS STUFF IS DANGEROUS!
Avatar n tn interactions between prozac and fentanyl. My husbands meds were recently doubled. Prozac now 40mg and fentanyl 50mcg. and he is now talking in his sleep every night and constantly scratching at himself in his sleep.
Avatar f tn I blindly went along with my doctor prescribing the Fentanyl patch along with other meds for BT pain. I realized the Fentanyl had a lot of negative things for me (like increase in sugar intake, nodding off when I stopped doing anything, no short term memory.) Do a search on Fentanyl here and see what people have gone through with it. Personally I think it should only be used for end of life pain. If you have reason to think you won't ever come off it, then it would be okay.
Avatar f tn So I would just discuss with your doctor the fact that the fentanyl is no longer working. I have heard that fentanyl tends to work a lot longer than longer acting opioids in pill form before effectiveness begins to wane. The options that your doctor will most likely present to you are, an increase in fentanyl (which will require wearing a couple of patches versus just one), an increase or change in breakthrough pain medication and/or an addition of a long acting medication in pill form.
Avatar n tn The fentanyl should manage your pain much more effectively than the methadone... well I believe it will based on my personal experiences. And I have never taken opana, so I am not sure how much it would help. Good Luck.
Avatar m tn Just wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with switching methadone 95mg once daily, to fentanyl patch 100mcg Hour patch? or know the methadone mg fentanyl dose equivalents?
Avatar m tn Hey buddy! Congrats on your decision to taper down. I know fentanyl can be a handful. There's several members who has tapered quite successfully At 50mcg, my doctor wanted me to switch over to Oxycotin but insurance didn't allow it, which led to going cold turkey. I'll be passing your post to current and past fentanyl users! There's tons of support here!
